🇬🇧: During the early March, we had the opportunity to look into a slightly different environment than what we’re used to at home or in the northern regions of our Earth. When I found out we were going to the Emirates, I knew I had to take photos in the desert. So, with @landandcolors and @miriam_hrebendova, we headed to the border with Oman, where we found a beautiful colorful desert. During this day, some of my typical “big scenes” were also created. However, I really enjoyed playing with interesting details, of which there are really many in the desert. Here’s a selection of several views that interested me the most. 🏜️ __________________________ 🇸🇰: Na prelome februára a marca sme mali možnosť pozrieť sa do trochu iného prostredia, na aké sme zvyknutí u nás alebo na severe. Keď som sa dozvedel, že ideme do Emirátov, vedel som, že si musím ísť zafotiť na púšti. S @landandcolors a @miriam_hrebendova sme sa teda vybrali na hranicu s Ománom, kde sme našli krásnu farebnú púšť. Počas tohto dňa vzniklo aj niekoľko mojich typických “veľkých scén”. Veľmi ma tu však bavilo hrať sa so zaujímavými detailmi, ktorých sa v púšti nachádza naozaj veľa. Wasson Peak - Saguaro National Park ..... 🌵 Our Itinerary: My good tennis friend Ken & I made the drive from San Diego to Saguaro to kick off my second week of spring break. I was so excited to visit my 18th national park & see all of those saguaros with my own eyes. We decided to kick off our trip with this peak hike, which ended up being the best decision. Our mid-morning start was sunny but cool, affording us perfect hiking weather & endless views of the saguaros, wildflowers, snowcapped Mt. Lemmon & Tuscson. 🥾 Adventure Description: Speaking of wildflowers, they were truly the star of the show! From the time we pulled into the parking lot & every step of the trail, there was a rainbow of colors. It was as if we were walking through a botanical garden! The hike itself is beautiful, winding through the mountains, with every twist & turn giving a new amazing view. We ended up clocking an enjoyable 8.5 miles & 1993' gain. We didn't see a particular advantage to going clockwise or counterclockwise. 💡Pro Tips: This hike took us about 5.5 hours, which is an hour more than would be expected at a 2 mph pace. The reason is that we lingered at the peak for at least an hour. We had a 360° view, with plenty of rocks & ledges to sit on. and I brought my mini sound bowl & the book "Desert Solitaire" by Edward Abbey (which I highly recommend). A hike can be a hike or it can be a spiritual experience, so my best advice is to make it personal. Buster always takes a beating on the long, rough dirt road drive in to the Buckskin Mountains, and he takes it like a champ. These Mountains are colorful, jagged and highly mineralized... a great combo. While Buster rests and licks his wounds at camp, I do the opposite by hiking and rockhounding, which usually result in a few wounds of my own. Cadiz Sand Dunes - Mojave Desert. Finally made the trek out to see this natural wonder and it was incredible. Surrounded by the Ship Mountains, Sheephole Mountains, and the Iron Mountains, this part of the Mojave is untamed to say the least. Most of the Mojave is rugged and untamed but this was at another level for me. Formed by wind-blown sand from the Cadiz Dry Lake bed these virtually untouched dunes felt like being on another planet. Thanks to their remote location, and with government protection being in a designated wilderness area, these dunes don’t see too many people. Thankfully. Miles from any paved road, from any city, and any semblance of civilization. Thankfully. Leave no trace.
