Been 40 for a month and realized I didn’t capture the best birthday week I’ve ever had on my grid so here it is a month later🙃 Truth be told I was not thrilled to be turning 40 at the beginning of the year. For the first time in my life it felt like although there’s a lot of years stretching out ahead of me, there’s also a lot of years behind me now as well. So Tyler and I sat down and starting dreaming and talking about what would feel like the best way to ring in the new decade with intention. A trip? A party? What we came up with was a week long celebration with all my favorite people doing my favorite things…swimming, dancing, hiking, ceremony, tacos, wine tasting, a slumber party and so many beautiful deep and silly conversations! All in true Aries fashion!✨♈️🥳 1,2,3) A family style dinner party in our home with tacos and GF birthday cake where everyone dressed up in their best desert vintage fits 4) The dance party of my dreams!! 5) A beautiful & powerful private in home sound bowl ceremony by the talented @atlmarie to clear the space for the new decade ahead 6 & 7) A day spent soaking and swimming in mineral waters with my girlfriends 8) My bestie @sweetrootsfloral flew down to celebrate and see our new home. We spend two days hiking and having countless deep heart to hearts that helped me process this threshold moment 9) @dstruckdonte surprised the hell out of me when he rolled in mid weekend celebration flying all the way from New Orleans to come and party 10) The BEST hiking crew a woman could ever ask for! The Pinto Basin (found in the lower part of the park - in the Colorado rather than Mojave desert) is underrated in my opinion. There are some amazing hikes down there, it's way less busy than the rest of the park - plus it has these amazing Ocotillo plants. Joshua Tree Day 2 of our trip took us to Joshua Tree! I recently talked to someone that had been and they had acted like they were not very impressed with it. We thought it was beautiful! We were very impressed. Joshua Tree is named after the trees you see (which are actually yucca plants and not trees at all). The park was named by Mormons who were the earlier settlers and they saw the trees which to them looked like they had arms stretched to God and it reminded them of the story of Joshua in the Bible. We loved it! I will say even though it is in the desert it was quite windy and a bit chilly. Make sure you check the weather if you go. The park has plenty of places to hike and apparently some wonderful stargazing at night. I feel like people tend to overlook and underrate Joshua Tree, but every time we visit we find a new piece of magic ij the park that we never knew existed! Our favorite hike is EASILY the Cholla Cactus Garden loop…. ~ treetop lookout ~ • I believe it is a flycatcher perched atop a Joshua tree in Joshua Tree NP. With only a 200mm max zoom lens unfortunately I couldn’t get close enough to confirm definitively it is a flycatcher and if so which one. 📍Joshua Tree, CA 🗓️ 11/29/20 • I wish I’d had more time to explore Joshua Tree National Park! I was visiting family in LA for Thanksgiving and decided to make the day trip. Unfortunately, the traffic there and to get into the park itself was way more backed up than I anticipated. I would not recommend going during a holiday weekend! • I checked out the Cholla Cactus Garden Nature Trial. It was so alien and beautiful. I also spent some time wandering the desert on the side of the road to find the perfect Joshua tree plant for my photo. If I ever go back I’ll definitely get a hotel near the park and spend at least two days there exploring. #joshuatreenationalpark
