🟥 Bibl’yotek. (די) [ן-] ביבליאָטעק is Yiddish for ‘library’ (noun). In German, ביבליאָטעק is (die) ‘Bibliothek’. In Hebrew: סִפְרִיָּה (‘sif’riyah’) (f.). In Polish: ‘bibliotheka’ (f.). I took the background image above in Vienna, 🇦🇹; 16 days ago. I chose ביבליאָטעק as today’s word because of the Vienna Holocaust memorial on the 1. Judenplatz, in the photograph above. The monument is also known as the “Nameless Library”. Initially, I did not want to use ביבליאָטעק. Followers of this account include those who lost family members from 🇦🇹 in the Shoah and I did not want to risk “presenting” the memorial, in the photograph above, as another “stop” on a tourist itinerary - for want of a better word. However, whenever I’m unsure of a word to introduce, I “check” it by randomly opening my Yiddish dictionary on a page and sure I enough, I opened it on page 409, which includes the entry for “library”. Today, 12 March 2024, is an emotional day for many people with an understanding of history, as Germany invaded 🇦🇹 on 12 March 1938. The Vienna Holocaust memorial is dedicated to the more than 65,000 Austrian Jews who were murdered in the Shoah. Amongst those murdered in the 45 concentration camps that are inscribed on the monument were Austrian Jews who had managed to escape the borders of pre-12 March 1938 🇦🇹, but were caught by the Germans in neighbouring countries and later killed. A number of Austrian Jews committed suicide after the German invasion. In my opinion, the Vienna Holocaust memorial is “different” to “similar” monuments in other countries - such as, for example, the Shoah memorial in Eleftherias Square in Thessaloniki, 🇬🇷 - in that more than 130,000 Austrian Jews did survive the Shoah and surviving relatives and/or descendants can visit the memorial. Not to deflect from those murdered, but a visit to the memorial, which was unveiled on 25 October 2000, has inspired descendants to research their family history and record it for future generations. The starkness of the design of the memorial was intended to disturb the passer-by, but it has somewhat integrated well into the fabric of the city. 🕯️

This is the Holocaust Memorial in Vienna’s pedestrianised Judenplatz. Also known as Nameless Library, it is dedicated to the 65,000 Jewish victims of Nazi fascism in Austria and is the work of British artist Rachel Whiteread. It is intensionally brutal and stark – an inverted library set in concrete, comprised of endless copies of an unreadable edition facing inwards. Drawing on the idea of Judaism as a religion of the ‘book’ its voids and negative spaces speak of memory and loss. Around its base run the names of the places where Austrian Jews were murdered, its double doors have no handles. They clearly do not open. It was unveiled in 2000. The Vienna Jewish Holocaust Memorial is to remember the 65,000 Austrian Jews who were murdered during the Holocaust. The Memorial is titled The Nameless Library. The Memorial is 10 x 7 Meters ( 33 x 23 feet ) and 3.8 meters high ( 12.5 feet ) all of the books are turned spines in so you can’t see the titles of the Books. The Double doors are also cast with the panels inside out. The doors have no handles or doorknobs. The suggestion is they represent coming and going but do not Open up. The Concept is also representative of empty spaces, a library whose books mean stories that will never be told. Rachel Whiteread, Holocaust Memorial (2000) Judenplatz, Wien In 2018 we sat in Café Rüdigerhof with our new friend @iwahngram and had a long & wide ranging conversation over a great meal & a few beers. Ivan explained he’d managed to escape war once in his life, & predicted that something like a big war was on its way in Europe again. I was hoping he would be wrong, but he has been tragically proven correct. As we are all glued to our screens projecting the true horror of the #ruscist war & occupation, I’m compelled to post this sad masterpiece by @rachelwhitereadofficial . The world said “never again,” after WW2, but we’ve been there over & over: the killing fields of Cambodia & Rwanda, the endless suffering of the Afghan people (kicked off by a Russian supported coup & then occupation), Somalia, South Sudan, Iraq. The litany of atrocities goes on. All war is an atrocity & human rights abuse! This was our second visit to the memorial and still incredibly moving: Books rendered unreadable with their spines turned inward, creating a severe presence. The work was part based on the idea of a library and a concrete military bunker that simultaneously mirrors & contrasts with the surrounding baroque architecture. Utterly compelling and beautiful. Keine Frage, Locken sind schön-werden bei falscher Pflege aber leider auch schnell zum Albtraum: trocken, störrisch und manchmal einfach außer kontrolle. Spezielle Locken-Produkte haben allerdings den Vorteil, dass sie nicht nur intensiv pflegen, sondern auch die Sprungkraft der Haare fördern Für Lockige Haare empfehlen wir 2-mal die woche eine Kur zum Ausspülen anzuwenden. Luftgetrocknet sehen die Haare toll aus ist aber auch nicht immer möglich. Wenn du also föhnst, dann am besten mit dem Diffuser auf kleiner Gebläse- und Hitzestufe. Lockige Haare brauchen viel Pflege! Weil Locken von Natur aus trocken sind, solltest du bei jeder Wäsche einen Conditioner verwenden. Im Anschluss kannst du der passende Styling Produkt in den Haaren einarbeiten – Luftgetrocknet zeigen sich von ihrer schönsten Seite. Sin lugar a dudas, los rizos son hermosos, pero pueden convertirse en una pesadilla si se los cuida incorrectament : secos, rebeldes y, a veces, completamente fuera de control. Los productos especiales para rizos tienen la ventaja de que no solo hidratan tu cabello, sino que también ayuda a formar tus rizos y a la ver evitar el Frizz. Te recomendamos usar un tratamiento hidratante 2 veces por semana. Usa un Hidratante y apliquelo desde el largo hasta las puntas de su cabello y tapa con una toalla humeda en agua caliente y colócalo sobre tu cabello, déjalo por 20 minutos. El cabello secado al aire se ve muy bien, pero no siempre es posible. Entonces, si usas un secador, es mejor usar el difusor con el ventilador y calor bajo. ¡El cabello rizo pide mucho cuidado! Ya que los rizos son naturalmente secos, debes usar un acondicionador cada vez que te laves. Heute jährt sich zum 83. Mal das Pogrom gegen die jüdische Bevölkerung in Österreich und Deutschland. Damals wurden jüdische Mitbürger ermordet, ihre Geschäfte geplündert, Wohnungen verwüstet und Synagogen angezündet. Das Mahnmal für die österreichischen jüdischen Opfer der Schoah (auch: Mahnmal für die 65.000 ermordeten österreichischen Juden und Jüdinnen der Schoah) steht am Judenplatz im ersten Bezirk von Wien. Die Stahlbetonkonstruktion mit einer Grundfläche von 10 × 7 Metern und einer Höhe von 3,8 Metern wurde von der britischen Künstlerin Rachel Whiteread entworfen und im Jahr 2000 enthüllt. Die Außenflächen des Quaders sind als nach außen gewendete Bibliothekswände modelliert. Die Regale des Mahnmals sind mit scheinbar endlos vielen Ausgaben ein und desselben Buches bestückt, die für die große Zahl der Opfer und ihre Lebensgeschichte stehen. Die Flügeltüren, welche die Möglichkeit eines Kommens und Gehens andeuten, sind geschlossen, fehlende Türklinken erklären diesen Zustand als unveränderlich. Im Sockel des Mahnmals sind die Namen jener Orte festgehalten, an denen österreichische Juden während der NS-Herrschaft von NS-Tätern ermordet wurden.
