In all 3 of the versions I've made with this pattern, the details and crisp topstitching are what I love the most, and they make such pretty and practical garments! . . Second, the dress - this is the zoey dress by True Bias and I really love this one - ran into a few fit issues that made me set it off to the side for a while but when I pulled it back out and finished it, boy was I glad I did. This is my first entry into #sewaprilblouse24 This is my tried and true #kalleshirtdress from @closetcorepatterns I have made the Kalle a number of times before, but I really love this one in a colourful foxglove print poplin with plain poplin trim and the cutest little green buttons. It’s made in the popover style with a half placket and band collar. Thank you to Ruan @theyorkshiresewgirl and Gabrielle @cloth_edit for this fabulous challenge.
I made another #closetcorekalle ! This time it’s the popover dress version with the band collar. The tropical vibe of the fabric made it the perfect choice for our tropical vacation. I love this pattern and I’m already planning my next Kalle. // I made size 14 graded out to 16 at the hips. I added 5“ throughout the length of the dress for my height and could have added at least another one. I also made a belt that I’m not wearing because it doesn’t feel right. 💙Kalle 2💙 🔹Pour préparer les prochaines vacances, j’ai décidé de coudre une 2eme version de la chemise Kalle de @closetcorepatterns . La première était une tunique qui date un peu mais le tissu, comme celui-ci, venait déjà de chez @henryethenriette 💙. Je voulais depuis longtemps une robe chemise de ce bleu trop beau et quand j’ai vu la double gaze en boutique, j’ai pas hésité longtemps (bien soutenue par les Chums toujours 😁)! 🔹Pour cette version robe, je n’ai rien changé et j’ai cousu une taille 10 comme pour la tunique (pour un 103TH) et c’est nickel! Le patron est bien expliqué avec un sewalong dispo sur leur site pour chaque étape 👌🏻! J’ai pris l’option col Mao et patte de boutonnage classique. 🔹Je l’adore, hâte qu’il fasse chaud pour me glisser dedans! My test #kalleshirt that Dustin and I are fondly referring to as my sci-fi shirt, as something about it truly does make me feel like a space station background character. SO, how am I feeling about it?? I'm not entirely sure. I have to admit I don't think that this is the most flattering pattern ever on me. As seen in slide 3 as well as several outtakes I didn't have the strength to include, the effect of having a large chest under a boxy shirt is that the fabric doesn't drape so much as hang down and outward from the boob shelf. I think it's sorta cute but also... outside my usual comfort zone. ADJUSTMENTS: My measurements as of the time, in inches, were 38/39ish upper bust, 42 bust, 33.5 waist, 41.25 hips (why was I exact about everything except upper bust?? I wrote everything else down). I chose to start with a size 14 due to it being the closest average to my measurements, but in retrospect I probably could've started with a 12. And hey, it is comfy. I insisted on doing an FBA even to the 14 because I don't believe in sewing a button down without one, haha... so I added .5" of extra room to my front bodice piece. I still think that was the right choice even with the amount of ease in the pattern. I also shortened it by 1.5" due to my height being 5'2". This shirt is sewn from two fabrics I had around, including this black speckled linen that I made a Fiore skirt out of previously (slide 4). And the most delightful accident: not having enough fabric for the yoke pieces, so I pieced them both into a stripe! I think it adds a fun element. I originally did this as my test run for some orange/pink gingham fabric I bought for this pattern specifically. I can't decide if I feel like it's worth cutting into for another of these. I feel like I can rock this shirt AS a grey and black weird sci-fi top, but if it was cute colorful gingham? unsure if it would actually just draw attention to how awkward it looks on me. Thanks so much @tessa_the_sewing_lady for a sewing day to pressure me into making my second Kalle, a dress and fabric planned since like 2019. I didn't quite finish in one day, but sewing day company made up for this heavy viscose crepe being occasionally challenging, instructions a bit more vague and weird than I remembered, possibly a bad idea to use white thread, and of course, unghhhh, buttonholes. I need to keep working on that fact that things I sew don't need to be utterly perfect. In fact, the quirks are added value! I have 2 more Kalles planned and I'm really tired of them sitting on my list so hopefully this will drive me to prioritise them. I wore my #wearabletoile of the #closetcorekalle last night to a birthday party of one of my closest friends. We have been friends since elementary school and are now in our 40‘s. It was lovely to see so her and our group of „girl friends“. With life rushing away we don’t see each other enough these days! // I made the cropped version of the #kallepopovershirt at the @munichsewingretreat a couple of weeks ago. I made a size 14 even though my hips measured a bit larger. I added 1 inch in length but would add maybe more next time. I wanted the look of the hem facing so I drafted a pattern piece for the front. I used leftover viscose (rayon) linen in a muddy grey color for most of the shirt and some leftover viscose (rayon) linen in a batik style for the facings. It was my first time sewing buttonholes that actually matter and I was quite scared. But it all worked out pretty great. Birthday @closetcorepatterns #kalleshirtdress (cropped, with contrast facing). Lots of struggles getting the contrast top-stitching to a place where I was satisfied (and eventually just gave up on the collar stand (hand-stitched it) and back yoke/collar/pockets: perfect being the enemy of done, and whatnot.) Combining a medium weight denim with a quilting cotton made for *very* thick corners and sleeve bands.

Day 5 of #igquiltfest2024 is why do I quilt? Making and creativity are part of who I am. My favorite work has always been quilting although it has come and gone in my life mostly because of other priorities (ahem law school I’m looking at you). I’m always making. How does everyone else like to tape together their print at home patterns? . . About to make another (counts on fingers… my 6th😮) #closetcorepatterns #kalleshirt / #kalleshirtdress and it looks like I abandoned putting the pieces away neatly last time, probably because they fell apart and I’d moved onto to something else. The micropore tape from 2018 is holding up, but the cheap washi tape more like pretty paper than tape. When I’ve printed off more bits I’ll likely trace onto a big bit of Swedish tracing paper, and maybe order some more micropore.

OK I made this as a wearable toile and with the intention to maybe sell it - but I didn't anticipate it being SO COOL and with such good drape for a garment. The baby has flow. So now I'm on the fence. It's nearly impossible to photograph the florals in the weave, but they are deeply cool and stand out more in real time. Details: Fabric is from a thrifted tablecloth. I'm going to do a burn test with a scrap in stories, but I think it's a mercerized cotton or maybe a viscose blend. It's taken me until now to share this @closetcorepatterns #kalleshirtdress that I came home with from the handmade garment swap at last year's #SewBrum meet-up. It's made in a really nice striped cotton with an embroidered lightening bolt motif. It's a short shirt dress length, but I'm going to trim it to shirt length which I think will get more wear in my wardrobe. Laat me eens zot doen - allé, ik geef mezelf permissie om zot te doen, dus ik gà ook zot doen - en in 2024 toch opnieuw mee doen aan #makenine2024. Op mijn lijstje vind je geen grootse nieuwigheden, enkel patronen die ik al heb en al lang wil maken. Uitzonderingen hierop zijn de Beryl jurk (ligt zo goed als getekend klaar) en de Addie jumpsuit die vanaf de eerste blik een serieuze coup de foudre was, amai nog niet. Schop onder mijn derrière om dit jaar wat van die patronen af te vinken. Schop onder mijn derrière om dit jaar meer voor mezelf te naaien én hier ook mijn gezicht te laten zien. Alsof mijn derrière nog niet genoeg te verwerken kreeg, besloot ik dat 2024 het jaar van de stof moet worden. Van *mijn* stof. Die in de kast ligt te verstoffen. Die ik in de meeste gevallen nog erg mooi vind, maar toch negeer voor een of ander nieuw stofje dat ik denk niet te kunnen missen. Met een dikke zoen richting alle stoffenwinkels (waar ik die voorraad trouwens kocht, nog altijd grote liefde dus), doe ik mee met #sewwhatihave2024 . Meer nog, januari is de maand dat ik al die pracht door mijn handen laat gaan, streel en opmeet en netjes in @backstitch.app parkeer. Ik ga mezelf niet vast leggen en zeggen dat ik absoluut geen stof ga kopen. Het is wel mijn bedoeling en ik ben er ook van overtuigd dat ik voldoende in huis heb om het jaar netjes vol te kunnen naaien. Om het met de woorden van @kellyderiemaeker te zeggen; geen stof kopen is een geen harde regel zonder uitzondering, wel een richting voor 2024. Laat me maar kijken waar ik terecht kom, zoiets :). Now for the #makenine2024 challenge…plans for what I hope to accomplish and ways to challenge myself this year. We shall see how it goes given the busy year I have life wise and an extended period of time without a sewing machine… 1: I got this cool pleated velvet that I want to make a simple high waisted dressy skirt. Using the 1 hour skirt pattern from Mood fabrics 2: This should be a gimme given that they really should have been finished last year and will come together really fast now. #pietrashorts in a structured linen. 3: Going to push myself to continue working with stretch fabric despite my aversion. Gus has requested a classic waffle Henley so that will be a good motivator. 4: I really don’t need all that many additions to my wardrobe generally so making things for Gus will scratch the knitch without overloading my closet. Hard to find sweater patterns for men but the #petiteknitzippersweater seemed like a classic. 5: I’ve had this beautiful gray silk from China since long before I even had a sewing machine - despite having the right tools now, I’ve been way too intimidated to cut into such special fabric. But languishing in a stash drawer is not a better fate so I hope to make a flowy #kalleshirtdress that is dressy without being too fancy for regular wear. 6: In preparation for the above project, going to make another #kalleshirt in a light cotton for a wearable practice before making the big cut. 7: Plan to make a #ddagave skirt with this beautiful wool tweed. The skirt will be cool and reversible, but don’t know if I could stand hiding this nice fabric on the inside. 8: Another gimme given that I finished this last year but had to frog the sleeves back because I picked up too many stitches in the armhole and had gaping issues….but forcing myself to fix mistakes before moving on has been good for me. 9: Socks! I really hope I like knitting socks because sock yarn is so fun to pick out (hence already having four skeins worth of it…) and it is a nice portable/ smaller scale knitting accomplishment compared to sweaters. Closet Core has to be one of my favourite pattern designers. Their patterns are just so beautifully finished and the instructions are well written. This is the #kalleshirtdress I just love it. Perfect as a cover-up in the hot New Zealand sun. The fabric is pretty special as well. I bought it from @junkndisorderlynz a vintage/ secondhand shop. The shopkeeper told be they had bought a selection of fabrics for a fabric factory that produced fabric for soldiers during the second-world war. That would mean this fabric is over over 75 years old. It is a beautiful cotton, white with a red pinstripe. Turns out my gauge done at home doesn't match on the beach and it's to big! Need to #frogknitting and try again. 7. Inspiration is a Chanel style sweater in knit fabric stashed in 2023. In the short week before the new year my challenge was wearing items knitted by me. I also struggled with feeling unaccomplished seeing all the amazing #makenine2023 round ups. I walked into my closet thinking I did nothing! I was wrong I finished 12 but it's my hobby. My list for 2023 had 1 unfinished garment. I had failures and fit adjustments but this is my hobby it's about joy. ✨HNY!✨ One of my New Year’s resolutions (yes I do make them) is to do more sewing this year. Obviously I’m making/designing/sewing/drawing/painting the time because I’m doing a degree which requires me to, but I really *miss* sewing ‘practical’ things which can be used and worn in the every day. And just enjoying it rather than it being for a deadline….you know?! So I’ve made a @makeninechallenge plan for this year, fully acknowledging I have less time than 3 years ago (!!) when I first did this. The key thing here for me is to enjoy this and not to get too stressed by it. To try and use from my fabric stash instead of buying new every time. 9 is a good number- it’s less than one item a month, a good starting point. I’ve also chosen a couple of home projects for our house, rather than more garments because I’m just trying to be more aware of not just churning things out I don’t need. This is the plan: 1. Why was I such a silly Billy to take so long to make the #kalleshirtdress. I should have known it would be my style. I really enjoyed making it and it came together so quickly..esp when you consider I probably spent 4 years thinking about making it... This is the pop over placket dress length in size 12 which I'm pretty happy with. I was a bit hesitant about the length and then the curve of the hem but I decided to just do it straight from the pattern first time anyway and then figure out any mods I want for next time. This was my first pattern from Closet Core and I'm always strangely stressed when trying new companies. I'm happy with the drafting but the instructions weren't as fab as I expected. I've made the view A shirt also and the instructions said to press the seam allowance on the collar down...which is wrong it should be pressed up. I think the blog says it correctly. The pattern has been around long enough I would have thought the instructions be sorted by now. I will email in with this. Also there was just in general I didn't find the instructions v clear the whole time. I think if I was a beginner I would have struggled. But the pattern pieces themselves came together really well and there was enough guidance on the pieces to help with pattern placement. I was unsure of the bias binding for the hem, but actually really glad I did it. It finishes it off so well. The pop over placket was very manageable. The fabric is from @thefabriccounter. I'm loving all things chambray lately. Really pleased with how I could do the pattern placement across the piece. I choose transparent buttons from my button stash so as to not disrupt the lines and I like that. I chose 5 buttons as opposed to 4 which I think the pattern says. The PERFECT maternity dress 🥰 finished it just in time to start my third trimester For this project, I was browsing pinterest and came up with a drawing of a dress I wanted, of course also good for after birth and nursing. Then I thought what patterns I have that got a similar design, and decided to hack the #kalleshirtdress by @closetcorepatterns. I mostly love the fit of the shoulders and sleeve cuffs of this pattern.. I shortened the shirt pattern and merged the yoke with the back bodice to eliminate it. The skirt is 2 rectangles (I didn't make classic 3 tiers so I can have fabric left to sew something matching for my girl). And of course I added pockets. Then I went a little extra and made everything with French seams, because I deserve it 😊 Fabric is a flowy cotton-viscose blend from a local store. And the the result is just the most spring (or israeli winter with a light sweater), comfy, easy fun dress ever.

My daughter asked if I could make her a RTW inspired dress (last photo). So I did 🤭 using the #kalleshirtdress . This version resulted in a wearable toile for me ( for hers I’ll do the complete button down version & possibly cuff the sleeves ). Thank you @closetcorepatterns for this gem of a pattern ! Deets: Green Gingham Tencel/Linen sourced & designed by Nerida Hansen ( now selling through @verheestextiles ) Pattern was sized up, added length , 9cm side slits & squared the hem . I only had 1.5M in the stash so the Belt was pieced with leftover bits & I used various shades of contrasting linen scraps for all the facings. The finished project was a #zerowastedress ( unfortunately I had only enough fabric to pattern match the placket). I’ve been thinking of making a Shirtdress for so long. They’re such a classic garment that never seems to go out of fashion. I decided to try the Kalle Shirtdress by Closetcore Patterns. It’s been floating around the sewing community for quite sometime and I’ve admired it for years. This linen/cotton blend worked really well for this style of dress. I made a size 2 with no alterations FYI I’m 163cm tall. I know this dress will get plenty of wear once summer decides to kick in! It’s another #kalleshirt by @closetcorepatterns . This time I made the tunic length with a regular button placket and stand up collar, box pleat at the back, and the long sleeve extension. Fabric is a 4oz denim from @higgsandhiggs . Labels are @kylieandthemachine from @sewmesunshine.uk . I’ve been in need of a denim shirtdress for some time. Between an old denim dress I recently grew out of, and my favourite chambray shirt which I accidentally set on fire be leaning over my stove to get to the cupboard (our last home was pretty small!!), this has felt like a major gap in my wardrobe. I love how it turned out! The colour of the fabric is really rich but it still feels lightweight. The instructions for the pattern were pretty easy (although you do need to be careful about when to switch between the base and sleeve guides, it’s not as clear as it could be). I love the dropped sleeve with the dramatic collar cuff. It looks great as is and is plenty roomy when rolled up too. It’s a nicely roomy fit at the neck too, while still looking polished. I happily found that the tunic length was enough to feel more like a dress than a top/tunic, as the high low hem looks cute and short at the front, but completely covers my bum from the back (important! 😂). This is my second kalle, and I’m already midway through my third. Safe to say I’m a big fan of this pattern. The mix and match views make it feel new each time, even though the shirt is such a classic and versatile piece. This one is made of a rough and tumble midweight @elizsuzann linen. It’s a great multi season piece to be worn alone or layered with tights and sweaters. Thank you to @katiemakesadress for giving me the initial inspiration for this! She made a black lengthened Kallie and I knew I needed one as well. I love this dress! Size 12 with the tunic view lengthened by 13 inches and extra depth added to the hem swoop. Missed posting a couple of makes here which finally made it to the blog. I made this back in March! It’s the Kalle pattern by @closetcorepatterns, sized up 2 sizes to a size 10. I cut it at the dress length. I also lengthened the sleeves but shouldn’t have as they’re a bit long. The fabric is a flannel from @guthrieghani and I love it. Size: 14 in the 0-20 range Modifications: * Rounded collar, following guidance from the @guthrieghani blog. * Lengthened * Square hem with side splits. * Belt and belt loops. * Inseam pockets. * More buttons, spaced closer together.
