Kashmir Singh Gill, known universally as Kash the Flash, is a Handsworth-born former world champion kickboxer. In 1987 he became the first Asian to become World Champion in a contact sport. He went on to become an unbeaten four times World Kickboxing Champion. Kash's speed, athletic ability and showmanship earned him the nickname 'The Flash' inside the ring, but outside he is a charismatic ambassador for the sport and a positive role model for the young people he trains and coaches at his gym and the many centres he visits. Famously, he introduced Bhangra music to his title bouts and friend and fellow Handsworth star Apache Indian (Steven Kapur) adapted the lyrics to Chok There, one of his hit singles, for Kash to use as his signature music. #KashTheFlash #kickboxing #handsworth

Growing up in an environment where I was the only person of colour was challenging. No role models who I could relate to on many levels. Martial Arts was my way out. A few hundred miles away, a Martial Arts legend was shining the way forward. @kashtheflashgill from Handsworth, Birmingham, was defying the odds life had laid in front of him. He was winning competitions after completion. His photos were plastered all over magazines and papers. He soon became the World Kickboxing Champion. Four times over. He was and still is a hero to many.
