The first noteworthy aspect is the environment and location of the residency itself! I was mesmerized by the general beauty of the entire village and countryside of the region. I initially took this trip to exercise my creative skills, but I was able to excel in so many ways than one here. The first night I arrived I was greeted by an amazing host of artists that made my stay more enriching than ever! Work by artist Peter Kemosi also known as Petrix @petrixarts whose work will be exhibited at the Tribeca Art Show 2023. Kemosi is a self taught artist whose work highlights the African culture; focusing on creating awareness of the struggles he sees children in his community in Kenya experiencing due to living life in extreme poverty. His work is a study of the resilient spirit in children and youth, while observing the impact of the socio-economic disadvantages they face. He takes action in an attempt to improve those youths lives by regarly collaborating with local schools and art centers where he teaches drawing and painting. Kemosi’s work emphasizes the beauty of the African human figure and culture, and asks the viewer to reflect upon it. His work has been exhibited at the Kenyan Museum of Art, the Hamptons Fine Art Fair in Southampton, New York, and in Brooklyn, Queens, and the Upper West Side. Meet artist Mariko Kumon, based in Barcelona, Spain. Her work will be taking part of the TriBeCa Art Show 2023 through a loan by a private art collector, and more of her work will be available on our E-Gallery on Artsy. “Mariko Kumon is a Japanese artist residing in Barcelona, Spain. She graduated from a Japanese university with a major in applied mathematics. About 20 years ago, she changed her life and career path and chose art. She began studying fine arts at the LLotja school in Barcelona. Her final work was exhibited at the state presentation on behalf of the university. She won awards from the Premio Enjoia’t and the XVIII Concurs Pere Jou. She has been selected for almost 30 competitions. She has exhibited her work extensively and worldwide during her almost 18-year artistic career. For her, her sculptures are her most common form of expression. Through them, she tells stories about life with great emotion and instinct that defines her and her work. Furthermore, for her the lines translated into wire are a personal expression of her ideas and thoughts. I put them together into 2 and 3D sculptures and installation environments. The shadows they cast add life. My creations are sturdy, light, made with hand tools.In the pLASTic HABITat series, I’ve worked to weave a never-ending pile of plastics found everywhere to represent the disappearing endangered wetlands. Gabrielle Jovin is a multi- hyphenate Brooklyn, NY based artist from San Diego, California. Years of working as a plus size model has fueled her fascination with the female form. Gabrielle started this mixed medium March of 2022 and has quickly created a body of work, selling out group shows, and many commissions. Notably her double wall sculpture "Approach" is installed at NY Model Managements office in Manhattan. The overtone of Gabrielle’s pieces are about female nature, beauty, relationships, and the cost that comes with the strive to perfection. She received her undergraduate degree in Cinema Studies and French from UPenn and an MFA in Screenwriting from UCLA. One year ago my Halloween was spent in surgery. During the follow up months of treatment, I distracted myself by manically conjuring up every sort of adventure to make up for lost time. A month in France was one of them. And today is the conclusion of that wonderful month.
