Don’t underestimate art’s impact in your home! It can take a space that feels good and make it a space that feels great. As I slowly layer this home, art and books seem to be the thing I’m still lacking. The books are all in boxes in the basement (hard to rummage through), and I really didn’t have a lot of big, open wall space in the last house for large pieces of art. This house has lots of walls to fill, and much of what I have is small to mid-size. I can’t have all gallery walls, so I’ve been keeping my eye out for large pieces that can really make a statement. While much of my style is very traditional, I love to use art to bring big pops of modern. When we built this house and first moved in, I leaned heavy into traditional country, and I’m glad the bones of the house follow the narrative. But it’s time to add a bit of something different. Some pieces that feel fresh and maybe a bit unexpected. I actually bought two big pieces of art together (more on that thriftwiththemakerista now) but I’ll share the other here sometime soon. Ich habe das Glück, in einem Land zu leben, in dem trotz allem Frieden herrscht und wo es viel Hilfe gibt, und dennoch geht es mir nicht immer gut. Oft wollen rosa Einhörner und Glitzer einfach nicht aufs Bild. Schade, aber so ist es. Spannend finde ich, wie wir mit solch einem Gefühl umgehen. Wir wollen es nicht, wollen, dass immer alles schön ist und Zuckerwatte von der Decke wächst. Zurück ins Paradies, wo Milch und Honig fließen, und wenn schon nicht das, dann soll es wenigstens Nougatschokolade und Babykatzen geben, jawohl, das steht mir schließlich zu, ich habe die Nutzungsbedingungen ja akzeptiert. Und Freud, der alte Haudegen, kann mich mal mit seinem blöden Realitätsprinzip.
