I was in a dark and volatile place in my life. My mother told me everything I needed to hear. I have done a great deal of healing since that day. I live as an openly proud gay man because of unconditional love like this. I am free of an old self that never felt enough. I get to live this lifetime authentically. Day 27 of 30 Days of Gratitude 'RECOVERY' I started this project way too long ago and never finished. The last few gratitude posts I had planned were deeply personal; with this one being the deepest. September is "National Recovery Month." And I am finally at a place where I can openly take pride in my personal Recovery from substance abuse and addiction. I held onto a great deal of shame for the person I became in my rock bottoms. I have put in work on my healing journey to find serenity. I have arrived at a place where I need to let my past go and step into greatness. I celebrate my story. I celebrate the braver, stronger, and wiser version of who I have become. This has been the true spiritual birth of 'LORD HAMMER' I found the synchronicity of 27 to be divine timing. Day 27 of this project. Sept. 27. And age 27 where I experienced my personal hell. At the age of 27, I found myself emotionally, financially, mentally, physically, energetically, and spiritually bankrupt. My disease is insidious and wants me dead. I fell into a darkness that kept me disconnected from the world and from myself. I rediscovered this picture of myself and my heart sank. I see brokenness and powerlessness. My heart still mourns those moments where my life felt soul-crushing. I openly share my story because I've learned to celebrate my personal Hero's Journey. I am pushing myself out of my comfort zone because its scares me. I fear being judged or thought of as less than for being an addict. I have fought through my self-hatred to find love waiting on the other side. I have evolved into a person who makes choices from a place of love and no longer from a place of fear. Day 25 of 30 Days of Gratitude 'FUR BABIES' I have a deep and intrinsic love for animals. And I like to believe most animals love me too, lol. I felt the need to write something whimsical about my relationship with animals, but honestly, all I can really describe is my experience with a few precious fur babies over the years. I have had the blessing to be a guardian/caretaker of a few great animals. In more recent years, I have been learning about indigenous cultures and practicing Native medicine in my daily life. I now hold caring for the natural world in high regard. My perception of animals is the same as humans; that we are all spiritual beings. And there are beautiful lessons to learn through observation of our divine unconditionally loving fur friends. This may sound corny, but to all my animal loving people out there.. you get me. I have had the privilege to develop incredibly healing bonds with some beautiful animal spirits over the years. I have witnessed the family unity that is created from the care of an animal. Day 24 of 30 Days of Gratitude: 'CHADI' For most of my life, I have lived by the principle: "Be happy and comfortable with yourself before sharing your life with someone else." In more recent years, I have done a great deal of introspection. My belief systems began to evolve, and my perceptions of myself have become elevated. My woundedness became my strength for healing and gave me the opportunity for love to flourish. My journey of self compassion set me in alignment to gain the capacity to finally learn to love myself. And with that capacity for love derived the willingness to seek connection and open my life up to explore. I do believe that we are only capable of loving at the extent of which we are willing to courageously love ourselves. This last year, Chadi came into my life. Our connection sparked a new understanding of love for me. I cherish the bond that we have created as boyfriends, but also as companions. I feel like this is a public "P.S. I Love You" letter lol. Day 22 of 30 Days of Gratitude "LOS ANGELES" (I took a little break from being grateful..just kidding! I've been living life on Life's terms I suppose) Oh Los Angeles...The City of Angels. I am grateful to this city. I have had my ups and downs living here and definitely have a love/hate relationship with the city. This last year I celebrated 11 years living in LA. I can remember moving here and feeling so nervous about uprooting myself and starting a new life. But now this is home. It took me longer than I imagined, but I now have a greater sense of belonging than ever before. Day 21 of 30 Days of Gratitude 'LIBERATE' So first off let me incorporate all the ending/beginning of the year realness, the #10yearchallenge , and of course..my gratitude in one post. (2012-Extra 😳 vs. 2022-Basic 🤣) In recent years, I would describe my New Years resolutions as titles to chapters of my life. For this last year that chapter title was 'Liberate.' Instead of having specific goals that I felt the need to measure up to, I took into a deeper understanding what the word Liberate meant to me. This year I can say I was successful in my aim. I opened up my heart and began down a path of letting go of what no longer serves me. This year has been a painful process of doing a great deal of innerstanding and gravitating towards inner peace. I have looked my shadow in the face and felt the heaviness of negativity burdening the version of myself I am striving to become. I have never felt emotions as deeply as I have with going through this spiritual journey. I have learned my ego clings to animosity, greed, jealousy, unwillingness, trauma, guilt, and suffering as a sense of identity. Day 17 of 30 Days of Gratitude 'SUNSETS' I am grateful for the many sunsets I have looked out on and felt a sense of belonging. Sunsets are a majestic experience I think we sometimes take for granted. Watching the day turn to night; sunsets are a divine part of nature. Day 12 of 30 Days of Gratitude 'R+R' I am grateful for some rest and relaxation. I took the Lord's Day off from posting due to my actual need for some 'R+R.' During the pandemic I learned a hard truth about myself; that I sometimes hate being alone with myself. "You cannot be lonely if you like the person you're alone with"- Wayne Dyer So as I have made a great deal of changes, I have learned to cherish my alone time. This time I use to recharge my batteries and create time for self-reflection. I am a nap person and I'm ok with that lol. Day 11 of 30 Days of Gratitude 'TRAVEL' I am grateful for this last year's adventures. I was blessed with being able to visit family throughout the year in Denver and Alabama. I was able to make a trip back my hometown in Clark, SD. I even got to go a camping trip for the first time in a couple years. My goal is to do more traveling in the next year, in and out of the country. I am hoping to go visit my brother who is serving in the Army in South Korea. I have spiritual practices that keep me grounded. I am passionate about healing and growing. I have embraced my father's roots and began practicing Native medicine over the past few years. Day 6 of 30 Days of Gratitude 'INNOCENCE' I am a grateful for the divinity that lies within all of us. There is a magic that comes from the inner child. I have found myself at many crossroads along my journey to manhood. I have suffered the pain of holding onto childish things. And through my suffering, I learned there is a difference in being childish and child-like. Through life's inevitable twists and turns and reckless choices I found myself stripped of my innocence. My inner child was wounded and by taking a good hard look at myself I realized that child has been wounded for most my life. I am so grateful for my healing journey. Even sharing this, has allowed for me to be more authentic and in touch with my inner child than ever before. Through spiritual teachings I have learned living life in misery is irresponsibility and living life in a state of play is responsibility. We are not human beings have a spiritual experience. Day 4 of 30 Days of Gratitude: 'DETERMINATION' I remember a mentor in high school telling me I was a very determined person. And an old version of myself believed that person was full of shit lol. Mostly because I felt clueless, still do. (only difference is I understand being "only human" is a beautiful thing) I am grateful for the shifts in my life: mentally, spiritually, energetically, vibrationally, and physically. I am grateful for life's lessons. A greater lesson I have learned is the importance of being intentional. Finding the willingness to make decisions from a place of courage and strength has allowed for positive shifts. Through this process I have found myself healing and growing. I am determined to do better, to be better, to live better, and to love better. I found a higher purpose in achieving personal goals. During the pandemic I made it a goal to work on my physical body, focusing on functionality, posture, and flexibility. I am proud of my progress.
