If you were born in the early 1900’s you lived through two world wars, the Great Depression, the Spanish flu, and smallpox. Through all this a young entrepreneur named Adi Dassler decided to start an industry that didn’t exist. Provide athletes with proper shoes and he named the company “ADDIDAS”. His younger brother joined him in the business four years later and then the two brother had a massive disagreement and the younger brother packed up his things and moved directly across the river and started “PUMA”. Two brother who founded two of the most iconic sports fashion companies of all times from the same little village in Germany. My dear friend and partner Horst who is now the patriarch of the Addidas family legacy stopped into Miami on his way to a family office gathering in Salt Lake City where he is a featured speaker. 2023 was amazing. Discovered local Virginia gems. Boarded Jackson Hole. Snowmobiled to hot springs. Joined a new company. Sailing lessons with Pops and catching a snapper at the last possible second, reminiscent of times with my Papa and less exotic fishing trips. Spent time in Pittsburgh, Annapolis, Wilmington, and Hampton Roads for work. Played a little, too. Hosted our second neighborhood summer kickoff party to build a little community. Found peace in the waters of Virginia. Saw some amazing shows, both musical and theatrical. Whirlwind trip to England with MamaBear. Brewed some real nice beer with some really great people. New Orleans soul, Ullrfest back in Breckenridge delivering fresh snow for the entirety of our stay. Christmas in Japan, soaking in the culture, the temples, the onsen. Ate some seriously good food along the way, both homemade and by true craftspeople. Got to do most of this and spend all the quieter parts of life with my partner in growth. On the Shinkansen now on our way back to fly home to spend New Year's in our own bed. Grateful for another lap around the sun, and for a collective moment to remember what has been while also setting intentions for the future. Cheers! #LuckyIAm.
