This usually happy boy has been very upset and very unsettled last few nights. Last night at A&E they told us he’s got a very bad trapped wind and constipation. We’ve been advised to give him loads more movicol (currently out of stock and hard to find😤🤦🏻♀️)lots of fluids and painkillers. More of easy to digest food too. That sweet sleep lasted an hour. Then at home, Max wouldn’t settle till 5am until he went in the warm bath with mummy. Almost 4 years ago, we took kids to @smithills_open_farm for the first time. Max was not enjoying the smell of the animals. He wasn’t sure about the tractor ride either. It was all new and so different…..Fast forward to today….after settling him (1 hour after we arrived cos he woke up from the nap and was a grumpy camel 🤦🏻♀️😤🐫) Max really enjoyed it! He was more content on the tractor. He wasn’t frowning at the animals while we were in the barn. He got right giggles when saw pigglets 🐷! Every time we take kids out somewhere it is such a big sensory and social experience, especially for Max! Orthopaedics appointment today to see the upper limb specialist. Max will go on the list (about 6 months 🫤) to receive some Botox in his arms to hopefully reduce the tightness and help him reach out easier. PARENTS EVENING….it was lovely to see Max’s teacher and hear loads of positive things about him- how well he’s settled, the buzz he gets off children around him, the connection with his TA. Well this has been a busy half term for Max!!! SALT ✅ Brain MRI ✅ Physio ✅ Frame running ✅ Stick’nStep therapy ✅ Fresh 💇🏼♂️✅ Now time to relax this weekend! Max’s physio talked us through the results of his range of movement assessment - they are very good. Nothing deteriorated, apart from Max’s hip abduction. This is something we have mentioned before and the local services are happy to provide Max with a different standing frame that will assist him with it. Max will also get special shorts that will support work on his hip abduction at night. We discussed aspects of adapting house in the future too. We’re very lucky that Max gets a lot of support from his local services. Yesterday was another busy day for Max. We had results from the scan. His brain and spine seem the same as 5 years ago. Max also had SALT at home. She is going to plan a personalised #podd book for Max and also introduce it in school to use alongside of switches. Big day for Maxiboi today - had an MRI. Max had a couple of MRI scans under 4 months old, but nothing since. We requested a new one and the neurologist agreed it was a good idea. He was a real trooper, even dealt well with not eating since 7am for the next 10 hours. Even though Max had an excellent assessment and care, it still felt very scary to see his eyes roll back, quickly go under the general anaesthetic and having to leave him for another few hours. Once the professionals were happy with his numbers, we could take him home. The results will be in 6+ weeks. Back at Frame Running!! First couple of sessions Max did a few steps, maybe 5-10 at most. This week Max did just under 30 METERS! Completely by himself! Unbelievable. So so proud of him. And so happy he’s got an activity that is his, that he enjoys, and that is social. One of the other frame runners stopped their practice and was encouraging Max to carry on and keep going towards the end when Max was getting tired and frustrated. After trihex fiasco, it was decided today that Max will have a new dystonia medication - clonidine. They’ll also schedule a new MRI at Manchester as he had not had one since he was 3 months old. DAY 2 ✅ but Max did not enjoy it. He was crying and shouting, protesting. DAY 3 almost ✅ ☺️Max is in much better mood. He had a great physio session. We were shown what we can do with him on the ball, how to help him kneel and how to use hand splints effectively. Max really enjoyed using an iPad for his pudding choices. We stayed outside for hand therapy and Max responded better to the therapist. WOW!!! DAY 1 ✅ Max was grumpy during physio. He perked up during his #innowalk @madeformovementglobal session. He loved hand therapy. His therapist throws him a lot and pushed to do more. He hated the splints on his hand (sth to work on at home). #sensoryintegration was great! Max went on a big swing and loved it! He also was put in the ball pit - sth he doesn’t really like but he tolerated it well. 👍He was also rolled around and swang in a special swing, which gave him lots of giggles. He finished the session being wrapped in a giant weighted blanket! 5 years ago we brought Max and Mia home. After rooming in, we gave them a bath, they checked their weight and we were off. They offered us to leqve earlier and to tube feed them at home but we wanted to feed ourselves. We were elated and scared to walk out of that hospital door. We got home and spent most time downstairs. The kids would not sleep at night until early hours until we brought them downstairs. Simon slept on the floor! Today, Max came back from school with a lovely drawing. We record messages about Max’s weekend, which he gets to share via switch with his classmates. His TA also records daily messages at the end of the day, which Max gets to share with us at home. Today, he was so excited that he couldn’t stop pressing the switch! We’re very lucky that Max’s new TA is very supportive and has lots of her own initiative. Snow day!!! ❄️ Thanks to @captainsniper11 and @laurawordie57 ,we explored @chillfactore . Max was not happy putting all the warm gear on. But his mood completely changed when he saw the snow. The boy spent next 50 min going up and down in a doughnut with either of us. The staff were incredibly helpful by dragging the doughnuts up the hill for us as we had to carry Max. PHYSIO DAY 6-8 The last few physio sessions were spent practicing Max’s standing and walking. We were also given an incredible amount of advice and strategies on how to work with Max at home. The shopping list for the equipment got very long too. DAY 6-8 Hand therapy. The last few sessions were used to put Max in the positions so that he could use one hand while the other limbs were locked in. This is very useful in cases where a child has dystonia. DAY 5 - Max finished his week strong. He worked extremely hard. Today, his hand therapist tried a tape on Max’s hand. They tape it for 90sec and stretch it and bend it while the blood flow is reduced. Max tolerated it well as it’s uncomfortable. DAY 3&4 Max continued to physio journey. This time he had a good wobble on a @galileotherapy.en vibrating plate. The vibrations stimulate and strengthen his muscles. Max continued his hand therapy, which is actually so much more than just stretching his arms and fingers. He finished DAY 4 with walking in @madeformovementglobal #innowalk and really liked it. The extra bonus was working on his hand also while walking! So….we’ve been quiet as we’ve been away! Max went to 🇵🇱 first time in 4 years. He sat beautifully in his @fireflybyleckey #GoTo seat and enjoyed the flight. We spent first few days with family. Then the fun began. On DAY 1 Max had 2h physio. He was put in a special suit that helps support his core muscles. He also had a go in a walker. During hand therapy, Max had lots of stretches and tried playing on @technomexpl X-Cogni . During vision therapy, Max was making choices between up to 3 images. Second visit to @greatormondst today. Max enjoyed his first rides on a London tube, but got very wet on the walk to and from GOSH. Max was a superstar in the appointment and earned a lil nap on the way out. Continuing practicing sleeping on his back 🪐😴 Now we’re in the summer, while off school, we’ll be encouraging Max to do this even more. If he’s really really tired he will tolerate it for a while, last night he was on his back for about half an hour before disturbing. Nice day at @theicecreamfarm today in the hot hot weather. We joined SEN slot and were able to explore it before the main public were allowed to enter. Half term….has been the best! We went to @centerparcswhinfell and had magical time. The weather was lovely, the staff were super friendly. Everywhere was very accessible. We booked activities that Max really enjoyed, with Mia and solo: science, mucky pups and bowling. Max enjoyed cycling with daddy, walks and eating out. Not been fully himself this weekend….😞On Friday evening, Max started a new med „trihex” that helps to manage dystonia. Well, seems like Max is reacting to it….We’re gradually introducing it to him by giving him only 0.5ml twice a day. The dose increases by 0.5ml every week until it’s 3ml. Max’s been very cranky, needy, upset and in needs of lots of cuddles. He did sleep through the night last night. Every activity is a therapy chance…even bowling! At first, Max struggled to push the ball off the ramp. Towards the session, he was pushing off the heavier balls than the initial ones. Maxs started well his Easter break! He’s had SALT at home, focusing on his switch work. Saturday was lots of naps and cuddles. Today, we went to #duhnammassey for an Easter Egg Hunt. Big day for Max today! We had our SDR assessment. Max was a real trooper and charmer with lots smiles and cheekiness. First, we had a physio session, where they assess his mobility, spasticity, range of movement and discuss medical history. Big sticker for working hard 👍👍👍 Next, the consultation. We were told they can’t see much spasticity in Max’s movements. However, they wonder if he has dystonia…The next step is to find this out. Max’ll be given a medication for dystonia. Then, he will have a Botox injection in June if no improvement is seen from medication. We had a lovely update on Max’s therapy from @sticknstep 🥰🥰🥰 ✨Maks has had a great few weeks, trying so hard at the games and activities in the session; here are a few highlights; Maks has been working hard at lifting his arms and keeping his elbow straight, this is a tricky task for Maks, but over the last few sessions, he's starting to work out how to stretch first before lifting, with a little help from Shannon he's smashed it this week. Another task we're working on is keeping his arms by his sides when moving his legs. This is important to help him to learn how to separate his upper and lower limb movements. By holding onto some rings, he managed it so well this week-without arm gaiters! Lastly, we did some fingerprinting a daffodil picture for St David's Day; Maks loved this activity, so much that he decided to be the daffodil and made himself into artwork, something he thought was hilarious. 💐.
