Art has a remarkable capacity to give form to our internal experiences, turning emotions into something tangible. By creating artwork, we externalize our emotions, making them visible and separate from ourselves. This powerful act allows for a clearer understanding of our emotional landscape, ultimately leading to healing and growth. That's why art therapy is so important – it provides a safe space to express and process our emotions through creative means. So go ahead, pick up that paintbrush or pencil, unleash your inner artist, and explore the transformative power of art! 🎨✨ Take action today by scheduling your appointment at www.floraandassociates.com. We have eight different sensory systems that respond to information coming from our surrounding environment and within our own bodies. We each experience these sensations differently and some may seek these experiences to feel calm and grounded. Children’s behaviour can provide important clues into what their sensory needs may be. These behaviours help them to regulate their sensory systems and better engage with the world around them. Swipe through to learn what different sensory needs can look like and some simple ideas to support them to meet these needs. #SensoryNeeds #SensorySeeker #SensoryProcessing #SensoryLearning #SensoryKids #SensoryDevelopment

Are they "a difficult kid" or are they experiencing sensory issues? Mindful Power Child & Adolescent Therapist, TRINA, spoke with local School Counselors last week about how to support students with sensory sensitivities. These kiddos are often labeled as "difficult" and their struggles are easy to overlook, even by educators. If any of these quotes made you think of your child or one of your students, we challenge you to consider if that student has all of their sensory needs met. *Instagram never replaces formal assessment or professional diagnosis. Calming, Therapeutic Sensory Vest – This compression vest for kids helps relieve stress, anxiety, and overwhelming emotions caused by ADHD or autism, so your child can feel more focused, calm, and relaxed around others. Soft, Breathable, and Supportive – Designed to wrap comfortably over the shoulders and around the midsection our weighted vest for kids lets them move, play, and experience life with natural mobility while staying cool and relaxed on the go. *Only to be used 15 minutes at a time. Use a timer and take off when timer rings. If worn long periods of time, the vest will become ineffective because they become used to the compression. Why might your child need a compression vest? --Difficulty with self-regulation (which is the ability to adjust attention, thoughts, behaviours and emotions to meet the demands of a situation) --Difficulty maintaining attention and sitting still. --Demonstrate a need for deep pressure (e.g. difficulty with personal boundaries, frequently falling or crashing on purpose, seeking things to push, pull or climb) What are the benefits of using a compression vest? --Promotes calmness --Reduces restlessness --Increases concentration and sustained attention --Promotes body awareness (feeling where your body is in space) How do compression vests work? The deep pressure input is called proprioception and can have a soothing effect on a student’s nervous system due to changes in the body’s biochemistry that this sensation provides. It facilitates a physiological reaction by reducing heart rate, blood pressure, breathing rate, and can reduce anxiety. The deep pressure input is similar to that of a tight hug. These vests are often utilized in children who are constantly on the move, fidgety, and/or crave movement or deep pressure. Packing with send children. Packing if always something I'm not great at, I have OCD and need to be prepared I write list and list but still struggle to know what to bring. I always over pack which is hard when we don't drive and have to get buses or trains with prams is hard enough. I have learnt over the years to try pack light however throw in year autistic children any tips and advice welcome. Things you have to considered with send children that other typical children / family don't have to when going away. * Older child still requiring nappies for Ariyah traveling and night or unfamiliar places still needs them. * Or child that only uses certain nappies like layton * Restriction on certain clothes that may have to buy more of the same item as haven't got facilities to wash them like when home. * Extra clothes because your children just get more messy or incase of accidents *Towels even if provided as again sensitivity to textures * Blankets and comfort teddies/items * Sensory toys or equipment that we able to take. * pec symbols and now and next boards to ease transitions. * Chewy *Ear defenders *iPad are a must * Safe foods incase you can't find anything they eat. * Medication * Activity pads or things of interests to keep them busy traveling. Probably more tbh but these are our main ones. Plus the general clothes, swim stuff, bottles, coats if cold, hats and suncream because well who knows what English weathers gunna do. That's without any of mine and Ben's stuff. But looking forward to a week away at Butlins. We took ariyah at 11 months before her birthday. An integral aspect of sensory development involves the capacity to interpret body sensations accurately. In infants, any discomfort triggers a heightened state of arousal. When the pons fails to develop in an organized manner due to insufficient movements and sensory input, sensory processing disorders may arise. These disorders can manifest later in life as tendencies towards over-physical aggressiveness, eating disorders, engaging in high-risk activities, or exhibiting a high pain tolerance. #sensoryregulation #sensoryneeds #sensoryprocessing #sensoryintegration

DLA misconceptions. We have claimed DLA for Toby since he was 2. And I know there is some people out there that just think this money isn't used wisely, or that the parents of the child with the disabilities end up using it for their own entertainments. This is so wrong, I have a complete separate account for tobys DLA and it's moved into my account when I need to use it. Having a SEN child is ridiculously expensive, what with nappies, safe foods, keeping up with their sensory needs, days out, supporting their special interests, vitamins for deficiencies due to restricted eating and much more. You are not meant to save the money for their futures it has to be used frequently. In our case every month all of the money is used up and I often question where it's gone so quickly!! (probably fruit) 😂 Going through the renewal process is always treated like a new claim so all evidence is sent off each time, DLA no longer send renewal forms out so you have to contact them to get them sent out to you. Without this money we would struggle to keep up with tobys needs! #dla #postoftheday #tobysjourney #followusformore #raisingawarenesstogether #sencommunity #senchild #boyswithautism #senparents #verbalautism #neurodivergent #sensoryseeking #autismawareness #disability #money #additionalneeds #sensoryneeds #asd #ARFID

Today I finally managed to go through my wardrobe and drawers and binned all of the things that were ill-fitting, stained, or otherwise past looking their best. I wanted to share this photo because I’m proud of myself as this was 100% a stereotypical “task I have been avoiding for weeks but in reality took much less time to do” situation. Though the clothes I removed won’t literally go in the (rubbish) bin, the large majority of them were still in reasonable enough condition to go to a charity shop, so I will drop them off there tomorrow. It feels a huge relief, especially with winter weather looming, not only to have my closet less full but to only have left the things that are comfortable and that I’m happy to wear regularly either casually or for work. This is a body image thing for me as well as a sensory thing, because I am SO done wearing stuff that doesn’t fit or I feel awful in. There are still some guidelines I need to be mindful of with work wear but that’s OK. #adhd #autistic #audhd #pda #neurodivergent #procrastination #taskavoidance #bodyimage #wardrobedeclutter #sensoryneeds #clothing #comfortable #workwear #casualwear #atlonglastaudhd

We should not wait until they are already dysregulated to accommodate their sensory needs. ~ Jeanette Loftus #sensoryprocessingdisorder #sensorydisorder #sensorydiet #sensorydiets #sensorydifficulties #hyposensitivity #hypersensitivity #seeker #sensorydifferences #sensoryprocessing #sensoryintegrationdisorder #avoider #sensory #sensoryintegration #selfregulation #regulation #emotionalregulation #sensoryneeds #sensoryactivites #sensoryinout
