Have you started to notice changes in your skin? During perimenopause, a lot is going on underneath the surface of the skin. These are a few of the most common changes you may notice: 👉🏼 As collagen declines, you may notice an increase in lines and wrinkles, as well as skin sagging. 👉🏼 During menopause, as oestrogen levels decrease, there is also less connective tissue in the skin, which leads to reduced hydration and compromised barrier function. As a result, the skin becomes thin, dry, dull and wrinkled. 👉🏼 As natural hyaluronic acid levels fall, the skin becomes drier, and tiny microtears can form, allowing moisture to escape and irritants and allergens to enter. As a result, skin becomes easily irritated, and you may also see an increase in inflammatory skin conditions. 👉🏼 Declining oestrogen levels also lead to the unmasking of androgens, such as testosterone. In turn, testosterone stimulates increased production of sebum, therefore giving the skin an oily appearance. Increased sebum can also lead to increased acne. 👉🏼 As the skin thins with age, there is also a loss of fat and connective tissue around blood vessels, which makes them more prone to injury. This occurs due to a loss of collagen, water, and elastin which thins the dermis and results in a crepey appearance. There are many ways that we can support the skin during menopause, from collagen-stimulating treatments like skin peels and microneedling to injectable moisturisers and good at-home skincare. What she has come up with is a very interesting well-aging serum. The serum includes a 15% Vitamin C Complex (stabilised vit C derivative) and NAD+ boosting technology, ultimately working to brighten the skin and reduce fine lines in a gentle way.
