The theme of the next show is art / creativity and spirituality. One of the pieces called “Say Hello” is about trying to connect to (a god) unsuccessfully, (a god) who “doesn’t trust me” and “wants to ruin me”. But it turns out that this (god) is also conflicted and lost. (He) wanders about, becomes gender, identity and otherwise fluid, and then falls into a hole. The perspective shifts and you the viewer/ listener look into the hole, and (she) waves back, unsure. Now you are the one looking down from above. Say Hello. This shot by @pdmxm captures yours truly working with the #thereforephantoms team trying translate this idea to live performance and real time video. “Say Hello“ is a #performanceart adaptation of an early @therefore recording made on 4-track cassette. Surprise! I have a new song out today. It's called 'Neck On The Line' and it's the first song I wrote on my debut album ('Easy Tiger' out 26 July). The song is about the sense of frustration I felt as I was entering a new relationship, due to the fact he couldn’t make up his mind whether to ‘go for it’ or not and wanted to keep our relationship secret from people. A couple weeks ago, we had a Minimoog come in needing a full restoration in all departments, including a crooked keybed that featured a single very yellow "A" key. On top of our standard Moog spa treatment, we set the yellowed key out for a couple of days to bask in the sun with some un-tanning lotion. This plastic-whitening process is a fairly new one for us, but it turned out really well here! This Moog now looks as brilliant as it plays, with near-flawless tuning thanks to a full electronic restoration. #minimoog #moog #synthrepair

Of all the synths to transform R&B, there's only one Minimoog. It was the first to come with a keyboard back in 1970, and soon inspired pioneers like Marvin Gaye and Ike Turner. To be sure it was a pain in the bum only playing one note at a time, and you had to record quickly before it went out of tune, but there was a real magic to the sound. Long after it had been superseded and the Moog Music company had hit the buffers, the Minimoog was still used for the perfect 80s synth bass grind (The Gap Band's Early in the Morning being a great example). He was a descendant of the portrait painter, Hyacinthe Rigaud, and displayed an early interest in art. His first studies were with Marc-Antoine Descamps, at a drawing school established by Descamps' father, Jean-Baptiste in Paris. His allowance from his family was not quite enough for his needs, so he painted small pictures, which he sold through his promoter. Despite this, he was unable to save enough money to build up a music studio nor to continue his studies in Rome. Hoping that he could go at the expense of the state, he competed for the Prix de Rome and, in 1821, was awarded a prize for his depiction of Samson and Delilah. During his stay there, he continued to send works back to Paris for exhibition. His painting, "The Dance Of Cesar", was acquired by the Musee du Luxembourg in 1827. In 1828, the Academie de Rouen named him a corresponding member, and commissioned a large painting for their new meeting room.
