Há exatos 50 anos, Rick Wakeman lançava "Journey to the Center of the Earth", seu primeiro álbum ao vivo. O álbum, um dos clássicos da carreira de Wakeman, foi gravado no dia 18 de janeiro de 1974, no Royal Festival Hall, Londres, e consiste na adaptação musical do clássico livro de ficção científica "Viagem Ao Centro Da Terra", de Júlio Verne, originalmente lançado em 1864. À época, o tecladista vinha de uma boa repercussão solo com seu álbum "The Six Wives of Henry VIII", de 1973. Para seu próximo trabalho, Wakeman continuou com o estilo conceitual de adaptação de peças, contos e livros. Naquele período, o músico chegou a dizer que sentia que seu papel artístico era "transportar histórias em acordes". Assim, após um tempo procurando o que "transportar", a escolha recaiu ao seminal livro. Se em "Henry VIII", as características das seis esposas eram retratadas em arcabouços composicionais bastante barrocos e românticos com linhas muito melódicas em sintetizadores, para "Journey" Wakeman expandiu a sonoridade para um tom mais épico, adequado à narrativa de Verne, com um brilho vívido. Para isso, além da ambientação ao vivo e sua banda de apoio, a Orquestra Sinfônica de Londres e o ator David Hemmings foram necessários para aquele enredo ser musicado de forma tão exata. Todo aquele modelo épico, dividido nas duas excepcionais faixas, poderia soar pretensioso, algo que Wakeman temia, e nem comercial suficiente. O álbum definitivamente não era um, muito menos outro, e foi um sucesso. Chegou ao topo das paradas inglesas e ao top 10 das americanas. Em outros 21 países, o trabalho chegou ao top 20, incluindo o Brasil, o que catapultou, de certa forma, a vinda do tecladista para o país já em 1975 para uma série de apresentações, que claro, continham o trabalho na íntegra dentro do repertório. Remembering my dear friend Gary Floyd (The Dicks, Sister Double Happiness, Black Kali Ma) who left us yesterday, with another unexpected musical connection made while collaborating on new music: we bonded on progressive rock band, Yes. He was a big fan who had seen them in the early 1970s in Texas. Gary and I saw the short-lived, alternate universe version of Yes featuring Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin & Rick Wakeman at San Francisco’s Masonic Auditorium. Gary waited with me outside the stage door after the show for nearly an hour so I could get Rick Wakeman to sign this, my favorite Yes album: Tales From Topographic Oceans. His was the last signature I needed to get the entire classic era of the band who played on this signed. Took about 10 years to complete this. Gary was amazed by my admittedly fanboy determination and the payoff was clear when we got to briefly meet Rick (who happily signed it) and Jon (who had signed it already had an earlier solo concert). This album has been a favorite of mine since I first heard it in 8th grade music class! This amazing album turns 50! Released on the 3rd of May 1974, #rickwakeman’s sophomore, live recorded, album #journeytothecenteroftheearth. My first album by the keyboard wizard. And as the 2nd picture shows, many journeys followed this first one. Shown are… 1) My first copy, a non gatefold rerelease of the album 2) The original gatefold album and including a booklet 3) The first CD release of the album 4) A DVD of the concert from Australia incl extra footage from Six Wives and his upcoming Arthur album 5) Return to the Centre of the Earth, CD from 1999 6) The 2016 studio re-recorded and expanded version of the music, in full shape of how it was originally intended. It was hearing Wakeman’s solo on #yessongs that left me in awe and wanting me to explore his solo work, and found that first copy of this Journey album. Still rather at the start of my journey into #progrock, somewhere at the start of the 80’s. Fell in love with this album straight away… The concept, including the story telling, the combination of a rock band and an orchestra, the incredible keyboard playing. Woh! It all took me by surprise. And still have a very soft spot for the album and the music. Is it perfect? Far from it. Yet I love the naivety and daring step to just go out there with the orchestra and record it live. Done with the technics of then and all its limitations. Love the energy and enthusiasm that pours out of this first recording. Yeah and there are things that could be better, like some of the vocals of #ashleyholt, the sometimes rough jumps the music makes, like how #grieg #hallofthemountainking is suddenly peeping up. The story not very balanced. But in the end these flaws for me are easily forgiven cos of the sheer beauty of the overall music and as said the energetic way it is layed down at this concert. Amazing event, amazing album! For me a top five album in his discography. Pompous, over the top gorgeous prog. I love it. Plus there is the interesting film, the brilliant return journey and the amazing 2016 version. Love them all. Thank you Rick! For this amazing journey… . .

So why, I have to ask myself, can I not with any certainty, pinpoint this LP’s release date. I’ve seen a whole host of May 1974 dates listed on the usual sources. One of which being today. 3rd May 1974. So given that this is it’s 50th anniversary year, today seems a good enough day for me to celebrate this Rick album. I’m so jammy. I still have my ‘74 original LP. And Rick has signed the cover. Para esta entrega se unieron los antiguos miembros de Yes (Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman y Howe; que en ese momento conformaban ABWH) y los actuales integrantes (Squire, Kaye, White y Rabin). La gestación del disco tuvo muchos altibajos en cuanto a coordinación y derechos. Há 33 anos, Yes lançava "Union", seu décimo terceiro álbum de estúdio. Nominalmente ficou conhecido por ter sido o único álbum do Yes como um octeto, isso porque, como o título diz, foi a união de dois grupos ativos à época: o Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe, composto por Jon Anderson, Bill Bruford, Rick Wakeman e Steve Howe; e o próprio Yes, integrado por Trevor Rabin, Chris Squire, Tony Kaye e Alan White. A iniciativa veio enquanto o ABWH gravava seu segundo álbum. Durante o processo, a Arista — selo da banda — solicitou que o quarteto chamasse compositores externos, a fim de obter músicas mais comerciais. Jon lembrou do seu ex-colega de grupo, Trevor, e pediu demos. Daí surgiu a ideia gradativa de unir ambas "facetas" de um mesmo conjunto para um disco. A despeito da ideia ser ótima, "Union" acabou tendo problemas. Além do trabalho ser uma compilação de gravações distintas dos dois conjuntos separados — nenhuma das músicas continha os oito membros —, houve um desequilíbrio no repertório: de 14 faixas, 4 eram do Yes e 10 do ABWH. O disco foi marcado por outras controvérsias, que foram desde a assustadora quantidade de músicos de apoio na gravação (quase 30 nomes são creditados), passando por partes de membros apagadas da mixagem, alternância de produtores, farpas trocadas entre integrantes dos dois "grupos", até declarações públicas dos envolvidos criticando severamente o produto final. Mesmo com o pandemônio, o álbum guardou bons momentos, como em "Lift Me Up" e "Saving My Heart", lançadas como singles. "Lift" foi o grande sucesso do disco, alcançando o 1° lugar da Billboard Mainstream Rock. Outras faixas como "Shock to the System", "Miracle of Life" e a instrumental "Masquerade" (esta indicada ao Grammy) também figuram entre destaques positivos. Porém, o resto do repertório acabou sofrendo com os problemas citados. Na chegada já percebemos que o público estava um pouco abaixo do esperado, pois quase não tinha movimentação, ao entrar no local nosso amigo @winchester_fbo confirmou que algumas partes do teatro estavam em menor número, mas não vazio. Falando da parte sonora, estava muito bom, tudo muito bem regulado e harmonioso, como tinha que ser pra um show onde o piano é a estrela, infelizmente a noite estava fria e a maior parte das músicas não eram animadas deixando muita gente meio que com sono, ainda sim para quem gosta de instrumentais, com teclados e pianos com certeza saiu de lá muito satisfeito, eu particularmente esperava mais músicas do @yesofficial, tocadas talvez com arranjos diferentes. Resumindo um show com ótima qualidade sonora, mas com um público não tão expressivo e com falta de interação musical do público. Bora conferir como foi... O tecladista Rick Wakeman anunciou quatro shows no Brasil com parte de sua turnê de despedida “The Final Solo Tour”. Wakeman, fez um belíssimo show nessa noite de segunda, dia 15 de Abril. Mesclando músicas entre o Piano e o Teclado entre uma conversa e outra com o público, o músico britânico apresentou clássicos de sua carreira solo, da trajetória com o @yesofficial , de parcerias com @davidbowie e ainda homenageou @johnlennon. Apesar de não ter sido uma lotação expressiva, tende-se a crer que mais de mil pessoas marcaram presença nesse ilustre show. Um show único, apesar de não estar presente com as tradicionais capas brilhantes que tanto o acompanharam em sua carreira, um belíssimo show, com com ambiente (clássico para pianos), com luzes básicas sendo o ponto central das atenções dessa noite no próprio músico. Pessoal desde a entrada até a limpeza do local como sempre bem feito, sem problemas no decorrer do show nem com som, nada de graves ou agudos de sobra, nada extridente nem em falta, com uma musicalidade boa e de sobra com elegância sonora. O Ponto negativo deixo aqui por conta de talvez um erro ou ainda não se sabe se foi um pedido do próprio músico, mas com o teclado de fronte a platéia, deveria ter sido feio o mesmo pra gente poder ver seu rosto enquanto se tocava o piano, não ele de costas para o público, afinal a elegância de um piano é sempre um momento belo de se contemplar com as feições de seu algoz....um show simplesmente ótimo e agradável aos olhos e ouvidos mais exigente. QUEM É IVAN 2X ? Ivan 2X, nome artístico de Ivan Lopes da Silva (Chapecó - SC, 15 de março de 1957). Artista de vocação e jornalista de atuação, IVAN 2X, por razões de sobrevivência financeira, com pouco mais de 20 anos, casado e pai de dois filhos, em 1980 iniciou a carreira profissional trabalhando em assessoria política, em Florianópolis (SC). Foram mais de 30 anos nessa função, onde a veia artística ficou limitada nas centenas de poesias e letras musicais escritas em horas vagas. Mas a parte musical, propriamente dita, ficou registrada em mais de 100 jingles produzidos para campanhas eleitorais para candidatos a prefeitos, deputados, senadores e governadores, o que possibilitou conhecer um pouco sobre as técnicas de estúdios de gravações. Em 2019 resolveu se afastar totalmente das assessorias políticas e planejou se mudar para Portugal no ano seguinte e passar pelo menos uma temporada de seis meses em Lisboa, para decidir se permaneceria residindo na Europa. Porém, na virada do ano, já com passagem comprada veio a pandemia do coronavírus e os planos passaram a ser uma incógnita para o futuro. Diante das incertezas que abalaram o mundo, decidiu... É PRECISO OUSADIA, FÉ e confiar no próprio taco. Há dois anos quando iniciei a crianção do IVAN 2X, no Projeto FODA! Música Para Crianças Maiores de 18 Anos, até alguns queridos amigos diziam: “Ivan, você está louco. Vamos te internar num manicômio”. Já os produtores musicais falavam a mesma língua: “Se você tem de 2 a 3 milhões para torrar em um ano, tudo bem”. Diante de pessimismo como estes disse para mim mesmo: “Deixa comigo”. E o louco, em menos de um ano conseguiu “subir” mais de 170 músicas autorais nas plataformas de streaming, como Spotify, Dezeer, Amazon, Appe e outras cerca de 40 espalhando o meu som em cerca de 180 países (vai dar Guinness Book). Para que isso acontecesse fiz o que imaginava ser o melhor, além de acordar às 7 da manhã e dormir às 3 da matina. Busquei um maestro genial; técnicos e engenheiros de som de primeira linha; um estúdio TOP disponível 24 horas por dia; cinco músicos que valem por uma pequena orquestra; e meia dúzias de pessoas amigas (loucas) que chegaram a largar empregos bem-sucedidos para embarcar nessa loucura que quebrou paradigmas e, claro, como jornalista essa história será contada em livro-reportagem. Só não prometo data, pois os próximos passos, ousados, serão visitar cerca de 35 países, ainda neste ano, nos continentes europeu e africano, onde, ousadamente, conquistei algum espaço.
