A day of firsts! I'm a HUGE believer in seeing my creator orchestrate divine timing, glorious adventures, and opening us up to many firsts! And today was just that~ Not only was it a first for my friend to visit this beautiful park, but it was a first time for her seeing the delicately STUNNING Virginia Bluebells, a myriad of varying Minnesota wildflowers, our very FIRST time hiking together, an intro to the driftless regions, and so many tiny singing warblers! I think it was also firsts sharing many real "life" moments and stories along the paths where we trekked and the roads we traveled on~ Funny thing is, we've been on some of the same roads in the past, present, and into future~ and now here we are, growing, going, seeking, and trusting all that He has for us in every step...new hiking buddies are the best! #hike20 of my @52hikechallenge 💚

Albert Lea Lake at Myre-Big Island State Park. I did not know there was a lake named Albert Lea. Only the town. The water level was very high with the high amount of rain they had. Yet, we could see carp swimming near land feeding. The carp would even jump out of the water a little bit. Startled me. Beautiful blue sky and water. Here's the thing... A hiking for mental health post. The thing about mental health and hiking for me... Sometimes, I just have to force it. Once I'm on the trails and just "start" the rest flows out of me as I reset, but I'm telling you there's days when I shrink into an almost self isolation mode because I'm frozen by all the external things that can come up and against me, my time, my mind, my emotions, and my body. I do it because I know that while getting outdoors, most times, it is simply for the enjoyment of it. Some days, I literally treat it like a therapy session. There is no denying how a hike through the woods can be the simple act of a powerhouse. I take back my power every time. Many studies have found that time spent in nature calms the portion of the brain linked to mental illness and reduces your mind’s tendency toward negative thought patterns. And, any outdoor exercise has a direct correlation to greater feelings of positivity and energy and fewer feelings of tension, anger, and depression. Nature... creation... gives back. So here's the thing... I'm going to get out there. I'm claiming my strength, my perseverance, and my healing. I'm going to claim my power each time. And, I'm hoping you remember, you always have it in you too~

We came, we sought, we slopped... It wasn't a flop though! Today's group hike with @youcanhikewithus and some of my fave outdoorswomen was so rich with color, wildflowers, and petrichor! Yes. Petrichor! Petrichor is the earthy scent produced when rain falls on dry soil. And the park had a good dousing right before we arrived. When a raindrop lands on a porous surface, air from the pores forms small bubbles, which float to the surface and release aerosols. There's nothing quite taking deep breaths in the forest during or after a good rain! We covered about 4 miles, but man, I SO BADLY wanted to get back out there and do some foraging! Another day... there's always another day, but I sure am grateful for this one. ❤️ #hike19 of my @52hikechallenge and another visit to a fave @mnstateparksandtrails option, while not being eaten alive by bugs this time!?

Let’s chat today about ways we can care for our planet (and Leave No Trace) while on the trail: * Pack out any trash you generate while hiking/camping, including things like fruit peels and cores. * Carry a trash bag or plastic shopping bag in your hiking pack in case you come across unexpected trail trash. * Devote a hike entirely to picking up trash (one a month, a season, a year – your call, anything helps!) - Note: Collapsible trash picker-uppers are cheap online (7$ on Amazon) and are a game changer. * Clean up after your dog and bag/carry the waste out. There is no “poo fairy” that will magically clean up after you, even if you bag it and toss it to the side of the trail. That’s still littering. * Report any illegal dumping (furniture, electronics, etc.) you come across to @minnesotadnr or your local park’s governing agency. * Cut down on emissions! Next time you head out on a hike, carpool with your friends. * Always stay on trail when hiking to minimize trail erosion. If it’s too muddy or wet to go through, turn around and come back another day. * Respect trail closures, they are there for a reason. Birthday, Bogs, Boardwalks, and Nature talks. HERstory - She is born and raised in these parts, moved into a world of nature from an early age, and thrives within it. She is bold, tenacious, loves harder than most, adaptable, perseveres with grace, and some say a unique anomaly. She speaks words with wisdom well when it's her turn and seeks to understand. She feels the wind in her soul, the earth in her bones, and the emotions of living things within it. She hears the whispers of the wild, the music all around, and is attuned to her holy spirit filled instincts. She is ME. I made it another year around the sun and through a monumental eclipse on the same week! I loved spending my Birthday in New places this year!! Now a lil History about where: I introduce to you Sax-Zim Bogs. What began in the very early 1900's has created a flourishing landscape! So many plants and animals documented, it's mindblowing. The 10,000 yr old land within these loose 300 mile stretch of boundaries contains not only black spruce and tamarack bog, but upland aspen/maple forests, floodplain forest, sandy upland pine stands, rivers, lakes, farms, meadows, and towns. There are three boardwalks on FOSZB Properties: Warren Woessner Bog Boardwalk (Warren Nelson Bog), Auggie’s Boardwalk (Fringed Gentian Bog), and the Bob Russell Memorial Bog Boardwalk (Winterberry Bog). Boardwalks also lead to more rustic trails, with even MORE trailheads outside of the boardwalks. The rustic trails are so special as they hold secrets and so many species to discover! I logged 5.5 miles to make #hike16 of my @52hikechallenge complete. I'm remaining rooted until the next year fully - just like the pines that held me on this ruck.

Pine trees for fulfillment~ All the guidelines say leave no trace. But I can't help dropping on the trail a few of my worries, anxieties, and things in my heart that I hold inside. Pines make me feel heard! Hike number 15 of my @ #52hikechallenge2024 and I'm so thrilled I went! 4ish miles on and off trail a bit because extra duties were completed~ More on that later. The trail always tends to point me where I need to go. Random thought: Could you imagine if pines were used as cell towers? I bet they'd carry a better connection for all if it was possible. Check out all the lil baby conifers in the last pic! There were so many young pines popping in this forest, it was squeal worthy!

Fully seen and known... I knew I needed it. Not just a new Gregory backpack but also today's hike! I must showcase my beautiful girl 1st - I describe my pack now like I describe my SUV. It holds all the essentials I need to go wherever I'm traveling. It gives me balance, security, and extra freedom, too. I love my new pack so much that she's going to be getting a name, just like my vehicle! I love it so much it made me hug more trees today ~ Name TBD as we need a few more trips together - But, Y'ALL, go get fitted for a backpack if you're ever serious about hiking, trekking, and generally being outdoors often! My hips and back are already thanking me~ Now, about this hike. I knew I needed it. I even fought against going earlier today, too. But, no- what I originally thought was 3.5 miles, turned out it was 4.5 miles of sticky melting snow, mud, and the brightest bursts of sunshine and sensory all up, down, and around to open my heart and soul back up! It has been a week of hard things personally. And yet, every time I get out there, I find my balance, I talk to my creator deeply, my eyes are opened to the lil miracles everywhere, and when I do all of this, creation ALWAYS gives back. Went for a walk at Fort Snelling State Park on Sunday. I didn't see any deer but did see a Bald Eagle nest and a eagle in a tree next to it. Went on the candlelight hike at Frontenac State Park last Saturday. When we arrived it was still a little light outside. As we walked farther on the trail it got darker. It was a fun evening with food and campfires. The snow moon was out and it was very windy. Some candles would burn out. I was surprised with the number of people that came.
