Elevazione by Giuseppe Penone 🌳 Penone’s sculpture is absolutely fascinating! It all started when he stumbled upon a fallen tree with incredibly long roots in the woods near Turin. These roots had grown above the ground, making the tree lose its connection to the soil. Penone was captivated by this unique sight and decided to preserve it in a special way. He casted the fallen tree in bronze, creating a 9-meter high trunk with nearly 6-meter long roots. But here’s where it gets even more interesting! Penone combined this bronze replica with five living trees. The bronze tree trunk is fixed above the ground, at a height of over one meter. The ends of the bronze roots pass through the living trees, forming a symbiotic relationship between them. As time goes by, the living trees will continue to grow, and the bronze roots will leave a visible mark on their bark. It’s an incredible representation of the passage of time and the interaction between nature and art.
