Here is a big one ! A 'large dome' ear trumpet in tin made by Down Bros. Their address in the 1892 cataogue is 5&7 St Thomas Street, Borough, London and they were founded in 1874. The item is 533mm long and the earpiece (probably ivory) is missing. There are no marks but based on their catalogue I have assigned Down. It is dated 1890 and was found in Macclesfield, England. The whole of the Packington Collection of 563 trumpets may be viewed in one room at Oswestry Town Museum - check their website for opening times. Wenn man sich mal nicht in einem Stadion aufhält, gibt es auch genug was man in Boston erleben und anschauen kann. An einem verregneten Sonntag lohnt sich das Museum of Science. Viel Geschichte auf 3 Stockwerke, perfekt um sein Wissen zu erweitern. Und wenn das Wetter mitspielt, dann ist der Freedom Trail genau das richtige. Etwas über die Geschichte in Boston und der USA lernen. Ein 4km langer Pfad durch die Stadt, die mit einer roten Markierung auf dem Boden den Weg entlang zeigt. Der Pfad fängt im Boston Common (ältester Park der USA) an und geht über den Charles River nach Norden und endet am Bunker Hill Monument. (erinnert an den Unabhängigkeitskrieg) Auf dem Weg dorthin gibt es insgesamt 16 geschichtliche Stationen die erläutert werden. Ein besonders Highlight war natürlich die Sonnenfinsternis, die man in Boston zu 93% gesehen hat und kurz eine große Ansammlung an Menschen verursacht. Es dämmerte leicht. Was man auch noch unbedingt sehen muss ist das Boston Tea Party Museum. Dort wird in interaktiven Erzählungen die Geschichte und die Wendung des damaligen Widerstandes gegen die britische Kolonie vom 16. Dezember 1773 erklärt. Während der Führung wurde für die damalige Zeit passende Kleidung getragen. Das machte es viel authentischer. Und nach der Führung, konnte man verschiedene Teesorten gegen einen kleinen Aufpreis probieren. Now we get into early 20th century 'quackery'. These silver plated 'ear tubes' by Weimar were expensive and ineffective. Weimar were based in the USA. Between about 1885 and the second World War, a large variety of hearing 'aids' were on sale. Many of them absolutely useless. These are helpfully marked Left and Right, but they are similar. Presented in a nice little box they are dated to 1900 and were found in Muhlhausen, Germany. We have been unable to source the maker for this distinctive spoked grill on a small 'London dome' ear trumpet. The horn and tube are in brass. Dated to 1890 and in good condition except for some paint loss. The earpiece is vulcanite and the item telescopes. It was bought in Raamsdonksveer, Netherlands. The whole of the Packington Collection of 563 trumpets may be viewed in one room at Oswestry Town Museum - check their website for opening times. El Museum of Science celebró este fin de semana el Mes de la Historia de la Mujer destacando las contribuciones femeninas a la ciencia, la cultura y la sociedad. Durante la jornada, los visitantes tuvieron la oportunidad de disfrutar de actividades especiales, como la proyección gratuita de películas seleccionadas en la pantalla gigante del Mugar Omni Theatre. Además, se ofrecieron conferencias destacadas, entre las que se incluyó la participación de la meteoróloga de WCBV, Ann Cicalese, quien explicó la predicción del clima de Nueva Inglaterra. También se presentaron actuaciones en vivo, como la poesía de la reconocida poeta Porsha Olayiwola.
