This was my 1st spinach harvest. So we love spinach in this house yet spinach does not love me. So after cooking and eating my spinach I realized that my blender was a bit active. Went on Google and yep high in oxalate. So now I cannot indulge in my fave food without my blader complaining. One thing I have learned about growing my food is to search for food low in oxalate. Next winter you will be seeing bok Choi and other low oxalate foods. This means I will be mixing my vegetables to accommodate all members of the household. A beautiful image of spinach in a basket 🧺. Artisan pizza 🍕 is a game changer. So one about the time ⏲️ you put into this pizza is worth every second. So after counting and being lazy to start I ended up baking at night. Once the process was completed I knew I could make the pizza the next day. I do not think I will stomach same day pizza after this. So many things going through my mind right now. The year is almost over and yet again we learn that what looked bare or seem dead can come back to life. Samp and beef bones. Beef bones are more about flavor than the meat. Unlike all the fancy samp, mine is cooked and flavored with just salt. No cream or butter. Adding cream means your samp goes off quickly. Chin chin is a scrumptious fried pastry snack. This delicacy was given to me by my good friend @chiomylee So me and Chioma me through our kids. Chloe and Chinmeri hit it off as friends from grade 1. Even when they were separated from grade 2 they have stayed loyal besties. Whenever something will happen at school Chinmeri would tell her mom who in turn would call me to ask if I was informed. I have to admit that when money is usually not involved I am super lazy. But this year mogirl said she wanted home made. Still I was not in a mood to ice. The solution was a colorful cake which will only need to simple icing. I went with this bundt. And what was interesting is that I am using an oven without light and still got it perfect without opening every second. South Africa is currently heading into autumn. Our mornings and evenings are getting cooler yet we still experience hot afternoons. I bring something that can be enjoyed with tea or juice and closer to Madeira yet can be enjoyed on its own. This naaitjie cake can be made with all citrus from lemon to grape fruit and oranges. When it comes to food I hate to be limited in what I can do or eat. The reason I cook is not because I female, it's because I has to prepare the food to eat. Cakes or should u say baking is my passion. I made this a few months back. Actually in June. And trust me when I say I blind bake. Though it looks pretty I have been working on it to making it better. As a one recipe with three flavors in it I found that it was a lot dry. Though making it that way was super easy and more faster. For the past 3 days I have had to survive without electricity. I did not vent and I simply came home and cooked in the dark then slept. I know it was hard for the kids but I was lucky that my sister stays close by, they spent the days by her house. Today I just think of this small donuts dusted in icing sugar as to how ca I was. And yes I am planning to move so that I will be at a place where I will have solar alternative. This image brings warmth to me. Most of the things I know about baking, I was taught by my mom. I have memories as a child when my mom would make warm bread that we got to enjoy with a spread of magarine. And looking at her Knead the bread with ease then watch the bread rise before getting its gold crust was something I will never forget. And whenever I bake, I always send the kids to check on what is happening in the oven. Though we were lucky in our area, the current strikes in South Africa left a few places in johannesburg without bread. With that, most people went on panic buying. I always have flour and I love to replace flour as soon as I see that I will run out. Making bread was super easy and everyone is woken by the smell of fresh bread. Eggs. One thing I have noted about eggs these days is that they come in a uniform colour. But writing this article I wanted to get eggs with different tones. And the only place I could get them was at Woolworths. Do you know your eggs. Do you know what your chickens are being fed? And do you know that what is fed to a chicken affects the goodness of an egg? Same as people. The size of a human does not always reflect what's inside. Let's go back to eggs and leave humans alone. Due to high population and demand for food, industrialization means producers have to cut Corners to produce food quick. Are we willing to pay more for organically produced foods or we want the cheaper alternatives. Do we also take into consideration that the environment which our food is produced affects the quality of the food? Y earliest memory with my curiosity was when I was 6. I remember getting an open nest free from mama chicken. I took that chance to steal her egg, found a quiet conner and broke the egg to see how a chic is formed. Though I had not been seen by mama hen, I was yet to meet my mother's wrath.
