So, NEVER HIKE ALONE is the 2017 Friday the 13th Fan Film, directed by: Vincente DiSanti, and starring: Drew Leighty. 'A hiker's (Leighty) survival skills are put to the test, when he stumbles upon the remains of the old and abandoned Camp Crystal Lake and it's one tenant, Jason Voorhees (DiSanti).' This is a true kick to the balls to the big studios who can't seem to do anything remotely interesting with the franchise or the character of Jason. -------------------------------------------------------------------- The main, and mostly, single actor, Leighty, did a fantastic job. He was a well written character, well performed, and likable. Leighty was an absolute joy to watch as whatever emotion he was showing, you were feeling. The horror and thriller aspect this film exhibits was fantastic. The filmmakers nailed the thriller/survival aspects as well as an awesome and terrifying Jason. The way the film is written and just the concept of half found-footage, half traditional film was brilliant. It was a very fresh and different take on a Friday the 13th story. -------------------------------------------------------------------- If I had criticisms on the film it would be I had very mixed feelings on the end. It was a very cliché ending, but an awesome ending for the likable character and great cameo. But my biggest complaint is that it took a fan's determination and a low budget film to make a genius Friday the 13th film and not the studio. -------------------------------------------------------------------- In the end, this is a free to watch YouTube fan film that was made for a low budget with a great actor and director that will be one of my favourite entries in the Friday the 13th franchise.
