I am happy to report that Kiss of the Dragon was an improvement over those two movies. Kiss of the Dragon doesn’t feel like it needed any gimmicks like the awfully dated visual effects that felt inspired by The Matrix or the Mortal Kombat bone-breaking visuals. This felt like Jet Li was being taken seriously, and that made for some fun bloodshed. Again, I miss Bridget Fonda in movies. She is a great support for Jet Li in this movie. It Tchéky Karyo as the relentlessly evil French Inspector who is the MVP in this movie. Firing on anyone in his way. Murdering people in public. Throw in the blonde muscle twins who look like something out of a Die Hard movie, and you have Jet Li taking on hordes of henchman. It’s Bridget Fonda who brings the heart to Kiss of the Dragon. The violence is far more explosive and bloody than the last two Jet Li movies I watched, and that’s because I think it takes the story, chase and the hunt of our main characters seriously. There is very little of Jet Li being awkward here. This is violent brawls all over the city of Paris and I had fun with it. I liked the addition of Jet Li being able to render his enemies incapacitated with an acupuncture needle. The Nightmare On Elm Street rampage continues. This one isn't honestly one of my personal favorites, but I absolutely understand why it's some fan's favorites. One of the things I do like about it is Freddy still stays scary Freddy like he wants to inflict pain in your dreams. And the pool party scene is really the best part of the movie. The special effects still look awesome! That said I do miss following Nancy's story, the subtitle does end up feeling pointless with it not relating that much to the original movie, and it does feel more rushed to capitalize on how good the first movie was. That said, it is one I respect the hell out of even if it's not my personal favorite. I do think there's great things in this one, but the difference from the first movie? Theme: April Fools (comedies) Feature: Black Knight (2001) Selected by: Bunni First-watch reviews (Out of 5⭐️): Bunni: I’ve actually seen this but it was so long ago that I remembered nothing, so pretty much a first-watch. I worried at the beginning that it really wasn’t going to be for me, but it picked up quickly and I became engulfed in the story. I’m kind of jealous because I think I would enjoy being transported to medieval times for like the day I’d be alive before being killed. The movie wasn’t all that funny but still quite enjoyable. There seems to have been a few movies that came out in the early 2000’s that are pretty universally hated but are actually just simple stories that are well done. This is another example, using its sense of adventure and subtly dark humor in the best ways. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Dimitri: Black Knight was pretty good. The few scenes of action were exciting, and Martin Lawrence was pretty funny throughout the entire film. The plot felt kind of overdone where it felt kind of pointless, but for comedies like this, it doesn’t really matter to me. It was definitely unique to go with a medieval theme, and I thought the end was awesome while still being humorous.
