Private water? . We found this old sign next to the Minnoch Bridge. Whilst the sign itself is rather attractive, the text is more problematic. How can water be private? (Though having said that I remember when we were in Oxfordshire, Thames Water told us that the rain that landed on our roof was technically theirs and then charged us for disposing of it.) What it means is that the fishing is private and, although we own the land, we don't have the fishing rights. Due to the sad state of our rivers it is doubtful that the fishing rights are worth much anyway. . Wild Service has just been published, edited by Nick Hayes and Jon Moses of Right to Roam. Reading the prologue I was struck by how their argument for changing our approach to nature from one of exploitation to service summed up, far better than I have been able to express, what we are attempting to do here. . There are so many buzzwords currently for farming, such as permaculture, regenerative farming, nil till... Actually, it is just common sense; look at what is there and work with it. Our farm has no hope of making money but we can look after the land, plant trees, shrubs and hedges, encourage regeneration of woodland, improve habitats and generally enhance the beauty of the place. Thank you to @s_johnson_90 for organising an amazing tour and tasting for @caroline_boop and I at @bladnochwhisky distillery. I last visited Bladnoch distillery just before it reopened to the public back in July 2019. The visitor centre was still receiving the finishing touches, but producing great whisky under the watchful eye of Ian MacMillan. It is now in the hands of Master Distiller Dr Nick Savage. We had to pop by and see the lovely team at the distillery. Unfortunately we never had a chance to catch up with @s_johnson_90 but our tour guide Amy was absolutely fantastic. Her knowledge and passion for the whisky and the local area was amazing. We had a great couple of hours chatting and learning about her families history in the area, as well as her connection to the distillery. 10/10 Amy, thank you for your time, enthusiasm and passion for Bladnoch.
