I spent a couple of days with Nathan over the last few weeks capturing photos and performances in the build up to the release of his new single, Highland Girl. It cracked the top 40 last night and came in at number 29. Meeting Nathan and hearing how quickly his life had changed via music and the Tik Tok was surreal. An overnight explosion online. It was also a beautiful reminder of the perks of this job, meeting a lovely person for the first time and instantly enjoying creating stuff together. Felt like a holiday espeically as the sun was out. We got shed loads of stuff across the two days and I’ll share more when it’s out but something about this portrait really stood out to me. We had just filmed something in the freezing loch, the sun came out and he was getting dressed. I love how he looks like a right hard man here. Some splashing funding news! 🏊♀️ Set in a spectacular location in a rocky bay to the east of Macduff, Aberdeenshire, Tarlair is one of only three known surviving outdoor swimming pool complexes in Scotland. Built between 1930 and 1931, the triple tidal pool structure is unique in design. To this day, it retains much of its original appearance, comprising a swimming pool, boating pool and paddling pool, with an associated tea pavilion, changing rooms and kiosks. However, after its closure in 1995, there were concerns that the iconic triple tidal pool structure may be lost to the elements. A three stage approach is currently underway to help rescue, restore, and reopen the site as an important facility for the community and tourists. Phase 1 included repairs to the structure of the paddling pool, boating pool and terraces. This has enhanced the appearance of the site and allowed public access for walking, relaxation and the sailing of model boats once again. Work for Phase 2, which is to restore the Pavilion block as a café and workshop, is now on site and is due to complete this Summer. We are pleased to announce that we have awarded a #HESsupported grant to the Friends of Tarlair Community Group towards a feasibility study for Phase 3 of this project, which is to revive and reopen the original swimming pool and associated changing rooms – a necessary step towards site completion. On Sunday 28th April it was the yearly Kinder Trespass dip at Kinder Reservoir to call for the Right To Swim in the UK. I’ve wanted to do this for years. However it came to yesterday morning and no one wanted to join me and it was pouring with rain. I was close to backing out. I’m not sure where I mustered up the will power, but I went and it was SUPERB. It was such a friendly atmosphere and I felt completely at home. Be aware of bio security and cross contamination. Protect the habitats you swim in. Check – clean – dry. Pick up litter every time you swim (even if its not yours and even if its tiny) Leave no trace – goes without saying but if you forget your bra and pants go back for them. Be sensitive to locals / homes near by with noise levels – especially early morning squeals. If a swim spot is suffering from overuse or can not sustain large visitor numbers, don’t promote it on social media. Keep secret spots secret.
