It’s been a rough week! Ivy hasn’t been well and we’ve been to hospital twice with her 😔She had a cough last weekend which sounded super chesty. Called the GP on Tuesday who wanted us to go to A&E to get a chest X-ray - so we spent 5hrs there to be told it was viral and to ride it out. Thursday evening she went downhill really quickly and we debated calling an ambulance for her. Her sats were down to 80 and her HR was very high. 111 sent us to A&E again and she perked up when we got there - as always! Another 4 hour wait and after one final obs check before we left with antibiotics, her oxygen levels were low and she need oxygen. Another chest X-ray confirmed a chest infection. We were then admitted. We got to the ward at 5am. We then saw the consultant on the ward round and he discharged us with inhalers and antibiotics. Had she been asleep I’m not sure we’d have been sent home. Holding an oxygen mask while she slept to avoid her sats dropping was not fun! Every time I dropped off my hand moved and the alarm went! So after 4 nights of very little sleep, one night of no sleep at all and 6 days of anxiety and worry we are home. Holding an oxygen mask while she slept to avoid her sats dropping was not fun! Like that $7 latte every morning, that bottle after work, that name brand shirt, that nice loft downtown, those unnecessary subscriptions to video services that help you waste precious time or anything that you give money to that could be spent building your future? . Will you sacrifice your sleep? Like staying up till 3 am to have a few extra hours to get ahead of everyone else that’s peacefully tucked in at night, not hitting that snooze button 47 times before you actually get out of bed or not sleeping in on the weekends after such a long week and waking up at 12pm on a Saturday afternoon? . To relentlessly pursue your path to whatever success looks like in your mind, you HAVE to make sacrifices. There’s a reel doing the rounds in which we are told that a crying baby (pictured in the video, with sound) is in fact ‘asleep’ and that picking them up would be essentially the wrong thing to do. If you’ve heard the baby’s cry in the reel, and you feel like I did (an intense need to comfort that baby even though it’s not your own) then you’ll understand what I’m talking about here. We are told so many things from so many sources and sometimes filtering out the information we actually need can be really really tough. In a recent q&a with hundreds of responses, I asked you what the most unhelpful or anxiety-provoking thing you had been told postpartum was, whether by a friend, GP or other health professional. Although I’m only touching the surface with the three included in this post, there was a clear, common theme and that was that essentially, night time waking is a result of how you are parenting- how, responding to your baby, responsively feeding them at the breast, or always coming when they call are ‘reinforcing’ the waking. Yet again, placing blame on parents, mothers, for doing what instinctually feels right. I’d love you to let me know if you also have been told these things? If so, by who? How did it feel? Exciting news for once. This is the floor of our new gallery space. I started operating my own shows almost 12 years ago. Now we are group of 5, with almost 20 amazing volunteers. Our artists list is over a thousand. Along the way I met and am privileged to know some amazing artists, volunteers, performers, art enthusiasts, and patrons. My other OAC members have helped push our shows to be better at every show. We learn something new every show. We take it seriously because we believe in the people we meet and want to get better because of them. These last couple years were hard and we still made it through. It's time to try. We have a year to try this space and see what we can do with it. It's not as large as some of our other spaces, so we plan to keep utilizing other spaces for our big shows, but now is the time to start supporting more shows with more ideas and get our artists the space they deserve. We are shooting for a midsummer opening party🤞 We need some time to build. It's pretty bare bones right now. I really really hope to see you all there. P.s.
