Venedig wie es leibt und lebt… Gondeln quetschen sich durch die engen Kanäle, die Wäsche hängt zum Trocknen an den Hauswänden und Menschen aus aller Herren Länder überfluten die Lagunenstadt und wenn noch der Papst wie letztes Wochenende kommt, könnt ihr euch gut vorstellen was da los war 🙈 🧍♀️🧍♂️!! Letzten Freitag war auch ich ein Teil dieser Massen und da ich schon öfters dort war, konnte ich mir das Schlangestehen an den gewissen Hotspot‘s ersparen 👍..! I’ve been in bed sick for the past couple of days, but my daughter offered to cook me lunch today so I tottered round to her house. The combination of two days in bed and spring meant that I felt as though I had completely forgotten how to dress, but I eventually managed to hit upon a pair of jeans and linen shirt - you wouldn’t have thought it was that difficult, but I’m claiming that snot-brain is definitely a thing. I am also sporting this summer’s Grenson sandals (this is NOT going to become a thing), which I have slightly mixed - although passionate - feelings about. I absolutely love them. As my daughter pointed out, they are A LOT. I don’t object to that, but sometimes I look at my feet and think, “what am I wearing???” This is a model Grensin always carries, and I’ve never been tempted by them until they made them in a warm brown mock-croc, and then they seemed to be all my transitional footwear dreams come true. The high today will be 18 degrees - positively wintry! And my cold is back. I don’t ever remember having so many colds in a school year - I think it’s a combination of teaching younger children and Ella sneezing lovingly all over me all the time. For years, I mocked my daughter for her Uggs, and then I got a pair, and I ate my words. In the meantime, I carried on mocking everyone’s Birkenstocks. Then I got a pair, and … the cork soles still freak me out, but they are so comfortable I can get over myself. I bought myself some shearling-lined Birkenstock Bostons. My reasoning is that my feet need to be in something between a boot and a sandal at this time of year, and they are picky. Gone are the days when I could just tough out a bit of discomfort! Anyway. I’m a big fan of shearling on my bare feet, and while they are cosy, I still wear my shearling slippers throughout the long hot summer. So I think these are a good way to ease my feet into the warmer weather, and I do really love the shape of the Boston: I probably would have got them before it wasn’t for the damn cork staring at me (the miracle of Birkenstocks is that when you’re wearing them you don’t see the cork, you just see the good bits). I love a mule or a clog - I love a shoe you can slip your tired feet out of. These shoes are making me feel more cheerful about spring, especially after wearing them for a full day walking around. Like the Uggs, which I have had for about 6 years, I suspect there may be a limited time of the year when I wear these. But that’s fine - I don’t need them to do months on end, so long as they do years on end. @birkenstock
