On the July summer season of 1996, Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day was released and follows the story of a group of people who are disparaged in the Nevada desert following the aftermath of a worldwide attack by extraterrestrial forces. With the other people of the world, they come together to launch an all-out counterattack on July 4th. While the movie received mixed reviews from critics, the film became a smash blockbuster success as it gained a $817.4 million profit worldwide, making it the year’s highest-grossing film, and was the forefront of large-scale disaster films and sci-fi resurgence during the 1990’s. A follow-up sequel named Independence Day: Resurgence was released in 2016 while many of the props from the original movie were donated to Planet Hollywood restaurants during their heyday. When walking down the location that used to be in Toronto, one of the giant mothership miniatures could be seen hanging from outside while one of the alien puppets was inside the restaurant; it would later be moved to the location in Times Square where it was surrounded by other ID4 props (ex. a model of the US presidential airplane) until the restaurant was renovated in 2013 and it was moved up to the rafters. Also on display until it closed in 2021 were hero miniatures of Russell Casse’s biplane and one of the alien fighters, which may have been the same one formerly displayed in Planet Hollywood London. Fighter jet models built for Independence Day were also displayed in the PH locations at Disney Springs and Disney Village, the latter of which is set to close forever in January 2023. Movie Magic! 🎥✨ • Y’all know I already raved about the food at @planethollywood but there’s so much more to this @disneysprings restaurant than just eats and drinks! My movie-loving heart was thrilled to see so much memorabilia! 🤩Everywhere you turned there were amazing costumes and props lining the walls. Every memorabilia item on display inside Planet Hollywood is authentic. It was sooo cool knowing that I was looking at the actual door that Rose refused to share with Jack in “Titanic”, or that Miss Piggy’s pink boa was right there in front of me! My favorite pieces were from some@of my all time favorite films: one of the Chewbacca costumes from “Star Wars”, Dorothy’s blue gingham pinafore dress from “The Wizard of Oz”, Bert’s colorfully striped blazer from “Mary Poppins”, and Red’s prison shirt from “Shawshank Redemption”. • If you are a movie lover I cannot recommend @planethollywood enough. Date Night amongst the stars! ⭐️ • This weekend we had the opportunity to be hosted at @planethollywood in @disneysprings for a night out without the kids, and we felt like super stars! Our table was on the third floor, overlooking the rest of the restaurant down below, and front and center facing the 4,500-square-foot video wall. Movie memorabilia lined the walls, and yes I did geek out over a few of the props and costumes! 🎬✨ We dined on some amazingly delicious dishes while watching music videos and clips from some Hollywood Blockbusters. It was such an amazing atmosphere! We had so much fun singing along with all of the other dinner guests to the songs and clapping and cheering after famous movie scenes played. • But the FOOD is the real star of the show! 🤩 We started out with the High Roller Sampler, and it was all so good that I didn’t want to share! Ha! It’s brought to the table on a ferris wheel and features Planet Hollywood’s famous chicken crunch, Texas tostadas, five cheese dip, Buffalo wings, and fried jumbo shrimp! My mouth is watering just remembering it all! Showtime Mojitos, and Arnold Lemonades refreshed us throughout the evening.🍹 Then Jay chowed down on an off-menu special of Prime Rib while I had the LA Lasagna, one of the signature dishes from the menu. Mmm! We ended the night with some out of this world desserts! 💫 The Banana Pudding Star Jar and The Strawberry Big Bang 💥 Super Nova Shake! This guy right here works tirelessly for his family, never says no and is always down for an adventure. (though, I think it does sometimes scare him when I say, "I have an idea!" 😬😂😭) He is Aubrielle's best play friend and does the best voices for all of her dolls. On any given evening, you can find he and Aubrielle outside having a water balloon fight, making the driveway more colorful with their sidewalk chalk drawings, "hunting golf balls" (especially the "rare ones") or having splash fights in the pool. He is the most hands on father. As a child, thinking about the boy I'd one day marry and have children with, I could never have even dreamed of someone as wonderful as you.
