Av spiselige vekster så har ungene for andre året sådd erter og gulrøtter 💚🧡 en glede for store og små! De la frøene direkte i jorden for en ukes tid siden og allerede har første spire dukket opp 🌱 Ifjor stod jorden ubeskyttet og ettersom potten står langs med taket så sprutet jorden utover alt når det regnet 🤯 Vi slet også med at sommerfugllarver så sin elsk på ertebladene, så den så ikke ut i sin prakt oppetter den hvite veggen.. Vi fikk likevel flere erter og gulrøtter og de smakte så godt! Denne sesongen har jeg lagt en hvit fiberduk over jorden slik at dryppende vann ikke griser til jorden, fuglene holder seg unna, varmen og fuktigheten holder seg og etterhvert så håper jeg at vi unngår larver og andre sultne kryp 😅 Jeg har planer om å fortsette beskyttelsen med fiberduk etterhvert som ertene klatrer oppover espalieret på en eller annen måte. Alle elsker jordbær 🍓 Bortsett fra meg og min datter (!) hørte jeg et gisp? Men vi elsker begge planter, og vi har to til i familien som elsker jordbær så vi må jo selvsagt ha jordbærplanter som gir i bøtter og spann. Vi har hatt jordbær siden dag 1 og i denne potten har vi hatt en mix av markjordbær og «vanlige», men markjordbærne smakte aldri godt og den «vanlige» var stusselig etter flere år med neglisjering. Dermed har vi totalrenovert potten og plantet kun vanlige jordbær av typen «korona» som skal være skikkelig søt og god. Tips! Ettersom diverse fugler forsyner seg av de saftige jordbærene så har ungene malt steiner til å se ut som jordbær. Når fuglene prøver seg på dem så vil de tro at de ekte også er like fæle og dermed holde seg unna. Det er første gang vi prøver dette, så krysser fingrene for at det funker! 🤞🏻 Tips to! Potten står på et trillebrett slik at vi kan flytte på den og frigi plass men også for at alle sider skal få sol ☀️ Og for dem som faktisk har peiling på planter så har dere nok oppdaget at de står fryktelig tett i toppen, hele 6 stk stappet sammen. Hadde kanskje holdt med 1 (de blir store) men vi får se hvordan det går og donere bort etterhvert hvis det blir too much. This little lady was lying on a pavement two weeks ago, probably dislodged from her home in guttering by birds. So I do what all good plant people would do, scooped her up and put her in the Viv. The main leaves are all browning and withering off (some food for the mysterious worms) but today, a sign that she’s alive! There is so much air in the Viv now that the lid is bulging up. I've been wanting a new basil plant, but I refused to pay $6 at a nearby farm supply store. This morning, these popped up under produce when I was putting in a grocery order for pick-up. They were only $2 each, and if I can harden them off successfully, I'll be able to distribute several plants throughout the garden. Plus, I'll keep a couple in a sunny spot indoors, too. As a bonus, I found a little kit to grow lavender from seed. Maybe it'll do better than last year's lavender plant. I absolutely love using any glass container for propagations. Personally the only issue I ever had at the beginning was getting rid of the label or the glue residue left on the glass. When I tried this it made things so much easier. They just need to soak in hot water to loosen up the paper or glue, then a little dish soap to make things smoother although I think it could work with out, and a stainless steel sponge. You just scrub away and it comes off so easily. I really hope this helps someone who is having a tough time getting those propagation containers looking cute. ✨Alocasia Maharani✨ Happy Sunday! This well established Alocasia was repotted yesterday. Splitting from one pot to three was a massive undertaking and held a lot of rewards. There are now two well established plants and a baby. All together I was able to harvest 29 corms! Maharani’s always produce a TON of corms, but this one really put in the work. Typically, I like to leave a few on the root system, so nature takes care of the propagation for me… but I was so excited with the stockpile, I took them all. Most of these corms are hardy and already have roots, so it makes light work of rooting. Like other Alocasia’s these babes like a well draining soil to avoid wet feet, a full day of indirect light and (during the hot season) watering frequently. My water routine is (almost) every day. I give the entire nursery a spray and once a week (sometimes a bit longer) I’ll do a complete saturation. If you see yellowing leaves or feel squishy stalks… take a step back on the watering. If you see burn holes in the leaves, too much sun! ✨Regal Shield✨ This babe is much hardier than some of her sisters. These are tropical plants, so they thrive throughout the humid seasons here in Florida. Typical expected foot print is 1-4’ tall and 2-3’ spread. I’ve found the Regal Shields I’ve grown from corms really thrive with a PARTIAL day of full light or a FULL day of indirect light. Like all other Alocasia’s they don’t like wet feet, so make sure you have her potted in a well draining soil combined with a pot that has efficient drainage holes. Regal Shield THRIVES during Florida’s spring, summer and well into fall. Water well and often through the hot summer and watch her push a new leaf routinely every 2-3 weeks. To redirect energy, when I see the new growth emerging, I will prune the oldest stem off. Catch a leaf in the direct sunlight and watch the veins and textures come to life; each leaf is like a finger print. I will be listing a number of Regal Shields for sale later this month. ✨Can you spot the difference?✨ 1. Colocasia VS. Alocasia Both of these beauties are considered part of the “elephant ear” family. As a general rule of thumb, the difference between a Colocasia (left) and an Alocasia (right) is the direction the leaf points. Typically, if a leaf is pointed upwards it is classified as an Alocasia; if it’s pointed down it’s classified as a Colocasia. While these babies have different appearances, they are both tropical, love humidity and well draining soil. 2. Maharani VS Gray Scale The Jeweled Alocasia’s (Green/Gray Scale, Maharani, Black Velvet, Cuprea, etc.) are all extremely textured leaves. The two pictured here are distinguishable by their color. The Gray Scale (right) is a light blue/gray hue with dark green veins, where the Maharani (left) is a dark green leaf with lighter green veins. (Bonus Fact: Melo and Maharani are distinguishable only by their vein colors.) 3. Polly VS Bambino Both Polly and Bambino are considered the “compact” part of the Alocasia Amazonica family, Bambino is the “even more compact” version.
