Seguimos o Budismo de Nitiren Daishonin que está espalhado por 194 países e territórios e para que as pessoas tenham contato mútuo, existem encontros nas localidades para troca de experiências, estudos e reuniões. A Sokka Gakkai, que significa “sociedade para criação de valor”, foi criada em 1930 no Japão pelo professor Tsunessaburo Makiguti e a partir de 1960, expandiu-se para outros países e em 1975 foi fundada a SGI – Soka Gakkai Internacional. Nós nos encontramos para realizar o nosso mantra em frente ao Gohonzon que se encontra a oração Nam-myoho-rengue-kyo (a lei que rege todo o universo). Ao recita-la perante ao Gohonzon, o indivíduo adquiri benefícios, modificando seus karmas, solucionando seus problemas. Esses encontros de pessoas de uma mesma cidade ou bairro é chamado de “Bloco”. Encontro de mais de um “Bloco” é denominado comunidade. Já o encontro de pessoas de mais de uma comunidade é denominado Distrito. With notable positions, including the third president and later honorary president of the Soka Gakkai, the largest among Japan’s lay religious movements, Dr. Ikeda’s impact is profound. Following welcome addresses by Mr. David Tay and Dr. Shahril Salleh, I participated in a reflective panel with Li Jinhaw, Mohamed Imran Mohamed Taib, and Paul Hedges, moderated by Francois Bretault. We delved into the relevance of Dr. Ikeda’s philosophy, especially in today’s world grappling with challenges in preserving unity amid ongoing wars, worsening peace prospects, and fading hopes. During my reflection, I shared insights from the book “Global Civilization: A Buddhist-Islamic Dialogue,” which captures the dialogue between Dr. Ikeda and Dr. Majid Tehranian, an Iranian Muslim. It highlighted the often-overlooked element of curiosity in dialogue, overshadowed by staged themes, agendas, and expected outcomes. I echo Imran’s call for more Buddhist-Muslim interfaith dialogues, that will enable the exploration of humanistic principles. Dr. Yaacob Ibrahim shared personal insights, drawing parallels between Dr. Ikeda’s teachings and Islamic principles. A consensus on common values for peace has become crucial at this juncture as we stand at the crossroads, determining challenging paths towards justice, truth, rights, security, and peace. The session concluded with Mr Tay Eng Kiat sharing his youth journey in Soka and having Dr. Ikeda as a mentor, underscoring the essence of a good leader for dialogue—a mentor for followers embracing the idealism of peace. Your vision transcended borders, spreading Buddhist thought worldwide, and under your leadership, Soka Gakkai grew not only in size but in its impact on society, culture, and spirituality . Your teachings, emphasizing peace, culture, and education, resonated with many, including celebrated individuals like Herbie Hancock, reflecting your wide-reaching influence . He made every meal special; heart-warming and fun. How I miss his sense of humor. This was my favorite time of the day to spend time with him. One day while peeling potatoes he said "You see this black mark on potatoes? You always have to cut them out as this can make potatoes very sick and they can get rotten"- less I knew that during this time he got cancer and was preparing himself for an operation. He died half a year later. I didn't understand the meaning behind his words as I was only five, but my relationship with food was never the same. It just becomes a painful reminder of good times spent together. Why I am telling you this story? Let's appreciate the important people around us, and make time to have a good time together, stay in the moment, and just enjoy because you never know when life can bring you some "rotten potato". Life is full of challenges, but we are the creators of our reality and the meaning we give to life circumstances is only our responsibility. Have a good week! I hope you take care of yourself!
