📚🎧 AUDIO REVIEW 🎧📚 I have always been a fan of Ginger. I teared up several times while reading this, and I also laughed quite a good amount. It was exactly what I needed to read in the moment I was reading it. The audiobook comes with a PDF of the recipes, and I was so glad for that! There are several that my partner are excited to try out. If you're here for the Drag Race tea, there's a smidgen here, with tidbits about how they ran production on the show. This is not a fully light-hearted book. Ginger's upbringing was tough, and self-esteem wasn't always plentiful. In addition, they had some toxic and abusive relationships as well. As they are a Florida native, the Pulse nightclub shooting is mentioned. I appreciate that she read her own audiobook, it really added to the whole reading experience. Also, there's good diversity here! Ginger is gay and nonbinary, and is additionally dyslexic. This book felt like a warm hug. Listening to the audio from @librofm and hearing @gingerminj tell me I'm worthy and loveable and capable was incredible. When Michael bought our tickets to see @gingerminj and @chefanneburrell at @musicboxchicago, we knew Ginger would be signing copies of her knew book #southernfriedsass afterward. He was also really hoping that Chef Anne would sign his copy of her book #cooklikearockstar, too. But after an usher checked for us we were told she had already left. Cut to standing in line for Ginger’s signature and we start talking to the two women behind us, Stephanie and her cousin Kenysha. At some point, Michael relays his disappointment about not meeting his favorite Food Network chef and I grab her book out of our bag to show them how serious he was. Then Stephanie tells us she just texted Anne - she’s still in the building and will be out shortly. Of course, we think she’s joking and she lets us believe that. Next thing we know, out walks Chef Anne into the lobby and she greets Stephanie with a big hug. We are completely dumbstruck. 🤯 Turns out @especiallysteph was on Chef Anne’s team for #worstcooksinamerica! As we’re standing there in disbelief watching them catch up, Anne asks about who it was that wanted a book signed. Stephanie points to Michael and says, “This guy right here.” They went on to have a lovely conversation and we captured the moment with a photo. A huge THANK YOU to @especiallysteph and @chefanneburrell for making this moment happen. And, of course, to @gingerminj for always bringing her southern fried sass to Chicago!
