Ok so, I started this project a LONG time ago. Like 5+yrs ago. And as much as I'd like to work on nothing but this truck, I still have to keep the doors open. Which means that this thing gets neglected a lot. There's been several stints of being stuffed in a corner for months and months at a time. The last year has been especially rough, but I'm determined to bring this thing back and get it closer to complete. Next up is all the sheetmetal floors and firewalls, which to me, is probably the most daunting part. The silver lining though, is that once that's done, I can finally blast and paint the chassis and I have just about everything I need to finish plumbing and wiring. 📚Audiobook Review ~ How to Say Babylon by Safiya Sinclair 🎧 This is a powerful and moving memoir that is shortlisted for the inaugural Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction. I think it might well win the prize! Safiya Sinclair narrates the audiobook of her own memoir and her relating of the events in her life is so poetic and rhythmic and lyrical at times. You could tell she is a poet, and this certainly made me want to read her poetry. I felt that I learnt a lot from this book about life growing up in Jamaica, about the origins and beliefs of the Rastafari religion. This also made me cry. It is full of heartbreaking and hard hitting themes and events, and Sinclair writes with brutal unflinching honesty about her family and in particular, her difficult relationship with her strict father, and her life-saving relationship with her mother. The way that the author found her way in life through poetry was just so moving. This was so beautifully written but so hard to listen to in places. A wonderful memoir. #bookstagram #audiobookstagram #womensprizefornonfiction #2024reads #aprilreads #booksivelistenedto #nonfiction #memoir #bookreview #booksbooksbooks

☀️stillness is the key☀️ All great leaders, thinkers, artists, athletes, and visionaries share one indelible quality. It enables them to conquer their tempers. To avoid distraction and discover great insights. To achieve happiness and do the right thing. Ryan Holiday calls it stillness—to be steady while the world spins around you. In this book, he outlines a path for achieving this ancient, but urgently necessary way of living. Drawing on a wide range of history’s greatest thinkers, he argues that stillness is not mere inactivity, but the doorway to self-mastery, discipline, and focus. thanks to @penguinrandomhouse for my gifted copy 💭this book is about how stillness is not inactivity, but rather a way to focus. —what do you do during stillness/taking breaks in your life? #bookreview #books #bookstagram #booksbooksbooks #nonfiction #booklover #bibliophile #bookaddict #bookaholic #bookaesthetic #read #reads #readmore #readmorebooks #reading #readingtime #reader #readers #readersofig #readersofinstagram #arc #bookworm #booknerd #gifted #ilovebooks

✈️ Book Review 🏝️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 I think "Airplane Mode: An Irreverent History of Travel" is a misleading title. It is both less than and so much more than what it promises. "Airplane Mode" is a fascinating and very readable mix of memoir, travelogue, and history, but the history elements are not linear and are served in irregular (but delicious) little dollops. The book especially looks at the racism and colonialism that built the modern travel industry, through the experiences of a brown-skinned traveler with a "third world" passport. I found the whole book extremely eye-opening, thought-provoking, and also just plain entertaining. In little snippets, Habib shares about the history of travel guidebooks, passports (and passportism), Marco Polo, the beginning of modern tourism in 19th century Britain, carnival carousels, and so much more. And Habib thoughtfully touches on fascinating topics like reading as a form of travel, the concept of pseudodiscovery (Europeans "discovering" places that were already inhabited by indigenous peoples), the idea of tourists vs. travelers, and the insatiability of modern consumption. My favorite parts were where Habib shares about her family and her childhood growing up in Kerala, India. (Her homebody father is my kindred spirit. When she takes him on a helicopter ride over New York City, his response was "Eminently avoidable." 😂) The chapter about her trip to a sustainable guesthouse in the forest hills of Kerala was another favorite. (But that’s a big no to leeches! 🥴) I also loved how she references books and authors as disparate as Agatha Christie to Robin Wall Kimmerer’s "Braiding Sweetgrass." Truly, this book is a treasure chest of interesting, educational, and delightful/insightful tidbits. I never knew what was coming next, but I liked that. Some parts were hard and discouraging to read, as the impact of racism is threaded through everything, but I think this is a very important book, for that reason and others. "Airplane Mode" has certainly given me a lot to think about. #qotd: What is the last trip you went on where you needed a passport? PS: Y’all it is already pool season in South Carolina. Wut. 😵‍💫

Mamy więc znane z różnych tekstów kultury doskonale znane motywy- rewolwerowcy, szulerzy, szeryfowie, wojna secesyjna, łowcy nagród- a to wszystko okraszone glifami, energią życiową i światem równoległym. Lektura idzie łatwo i przyjemnie- miejscami wręcz pędzi na złamanie karku, a czytelnik otrzymuje coraz to nowe bogactwo świata. Strzelanina jest już za bardzo oklepana? Proszę, oto steampunkowe mechanizmy. Sytuacja wydaje się być przewidywalna? Zapraszamy do fabuły indiańskie bóstwo. Kojarzycie kilka nazwisk z historii Stanów Zjednoczonych?

There was a major update to the Waterloo manufactured tractors planned for introduction in fall of 1982. With the addition of the hi-lo Power Shift and oil cooled clutches to the Quad-Range transmission, there was a need for more speeds in the eight-speed Power Shift transmission. After the devastation of World War Two, the international community came together to enshrine fundamental rights to refuge, health, education and living standards, for privacy, fair trials and free speech, and outlawing torture, slavery and discrimination. Their goal was greater global justice, equality, and peace. That settlement is now in danger, attacked by opponents from across the political spectrum and populist and authoritarian movements worldwide. We are threatened by wars, inequality, new technologies and climate catastrophe, and we need our human rights now more than ever. In this powerful, accessible book, Shami Chakrabarti, lawyer, parliamentarian and leading British human rights defender, shows us why human rights are essential for our future. Outlining the historic national and international struggles for human rights, from the fall of Babylon, to the present day, Chakrabarti is an indispensable guide to the law and logic underpinning human dignity and universal freedoms. Her intervention will engage both sceptics and supporters, equipping believers in the battle of ideas and persuading doubters to think again. For human rights to survive, they must be far better understood by everyone. 📖 ⭐️ 📚 #book #books #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #instabook #instabooks #tbr #bookshop #bookstore #newbooks #nonfiction #weekendread #waterstones #chippenham #wiltshire #shamichakrabarti #allenlanebooks #humanrights

📖Lying in Wait - Liz Nugent📖 “Lydia Fitzsimons lives in the perfect house with her adoring husband and beloved son. There is just one thing Lydia yearns for to make her perfect life complete, though the last thing she expects is that pursuing it will lead to murder. However, needs must - because nothing can stop this mother from getting what she wants…” 📚 Oh my god what a read. It was intense, it was gripping and truly messed up. It really makes you wonder what in the name of god goes through people’s heads sometimes. Lydia well and truly needed to see a professional because that woman was not well at all. Like she had a severely unhealthy relationship with her big old house and then the need for another child. The lengths she was willing to go to and expect her husband to go to… and think it normal or ok? How she got married in the first place is beyond me but anyway. You hear about mothers and their sons and toxic boy moms but Christ on bike this was a wildly unhealthy example of this. She had severe attachment issues. 📚 I feel so sorry for like everyone in this book whose life was affected by Lydia. Nobody deserved what happened to them because of her. I actually don’t have the words to describe how horrendously this woman behaved. I am actually surprised how Laurence didn’t have some form of complex because of the way he was treated as a child and somehow grew up normal enough like. But he did not deserve to end up the way he did. An absolute whopper of a read. 5 stars⭐️ ——————————————————————————————— #liznugent #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #book #books #bookstagramireland #bookstagrammers #myreadinglife #read #reading #plot #plots #story #stories #storytelling #fiction #nonfiction #bookstagramuk #booklife #readingtime📖 #readingtime #bookchallenge2024 #bookchallenge #happy #bookblogger #bookaddict #booklover #booklove

Siddharth Kara - Krwawy kobalt. CD ⬇️

The Third Plate: Field Notes on the Future of Food by Dan Barber . Barber explores the evolution of American food from the 'first plate,' or industrially-produced, meat-heavy dishes, to the 'second plate' of grass-fed meat and organic greens, and says that both of these approaches are ultimately neither sustainable nor healthy. Instead, Barber proposes Americans should move to the 'third plate,' a cuisine rooted in seasonal productivity, natural livestock rhythms, whole-grains, and small portions of free-range meat. . A Path through the Forest: Collected Essays on Druidry by Luke Eastwood 5 out of 5 This is a great collection of essays, full of information and thoughtful, well-written opinions and views on Druidry. Anyone interested in learning about Druidry, considering following the path, or even on the path would benefit from reading the essays in this book. Read my review: https://lshadowlynauthor.com/2024/04/27/review-a-path-through-the-forest/ Covering an entire metonic cycle of 19 years (2004-2023) in the life of a druid, this collection covers everything from ethics to gardening with the intention of provoking both thought and action. Of his Druid work the author states “My job is to push the boundaries of Druidic understanding, to challenge the accepted norms and to question what direction neo-Druidry should be headed in. I am not here to comfort and sooth, but to stimulate and promote wisdom and the evolution of Druidic consciousness. #bookreview #books #booklovers #review #bookstagram #nonfiction #pagan #druid #druidry #nature

I don't know what it was exactly (triggered it) but right now I've been interested in learning more about health and being healthy. So when I saw this in my library, I decided to pick it up (nice title 😏) It ended up being a lot of information I already knew (thanks to my health savvy mom) but also a bit more in a way. I really liked how Dr Idz talked about how our mental health plays a big role in our physical health and how social media is severely misconstruing what a healthy body looks like (and healthy habits). I think people don't acknowledge this at all, and as someone who has had a bad relationship with body image, dieting, and being "healthy" -bc of other ppls opinions being shoved in my face daily, I found this refreshing. I think more people need to hear about this, not just your average person but professionals and my mom too LOL (I need this in Spanish pls) The book is split up in a way that I found easy to digest, with each chapter being short (and reminiscent of a tiktok video), debunking some myth/misinformation, and then quickly summarizing the take aways I even made some connections to the info that Jellyfish Age Backward contains! But I guess it's impossible to talk about health and longevity without talking about the blue zones One thing I will note with this (and many other books I've read) is that they often disregard information that doesn't have scientific backing. Dr Idz does talk about certain methods without enough backing in a way that I found was nice and helpful, but as someone who still uses home remedies, I wonder at how much is ignored or not yet "discovered" because there's a process that is required for things to be "legit" Does that make sense? Lol! Anyway, really good read! #nonfiction #books #bookreview #bookreviewer #saturatedfacts #bookstagram

Haven't #read a #nonfiction space #book that impressed me in a while??? But this one! It went right into my reread pile :) I've always been interested in #astronomy but oftentimes the math and science eventually gets too hard to understand and authors (imo) don't do a good job at explaining things for the common people like me 😅 but this book was committed and I liked the baby steps. But they weren't just baby steps, I felt like we learned a concept in one chapter and then slowly, as the book progressed, we'd develop the concept and get higher and higher in the chain It didn't go into the detail I wanted, especially in later chapters, but I'd definitely read another book by this author. And speaking of, this author also has recommended readings between concepts, which was nice. One of the books he mentioned was one I bought a while back! I guess it's time I finally picked it up xD #books #bookreview #bookstagram

Why do #nonfiction titles end up being so misleading sometimes?! This is the second time I start reading a #book thinking it's going to focus on animals and it ends up being about people 😂 And as someone who is not interested in living longer, I've always been (slightly?) curious as to why people would want to prolong their lives... This book does give us some insight into information and theories for how to live longer, but how, in general, there are many things to take into consideration and how we haven't really found ways to counteract what aging does to the body (even though some animals have clearly cracked the code) It was an ok read. I would be interested in reading more on the topic #books #bookstagram #bookreview

I have to admit, this wasn’t a book that was on my radar prior to its publication. I actually hadn’t heard anything about it. But after learning it was a biography of the House of Capet, and clapping eyes on its beautiful cover, I just had to have it. On paper, it should have been a book that ticked all of my boxes. Having read it, I can say I liked it, but I certainly didn’t love it. This is basically a whistle stop tour of the Capetian kings of medieval France. The chapters are laid out chronologically, with each king getting at least one chapter dedicated to him (some even get two or three). Seeing as the book is only 314 pages in length, and covers roughly 350 years of French monarchal history, the author doesn’t have time to go into every single detail of each king’s reign. She therefore picks out a couple of aspects about each monarch and their reign, and then explores them in more detail. How much you will get out of this book depends on how much you already know about the Capetian dynasty. A complete newbie will likely come away with a far greater knowledge of this time period, whilst those who consider themselves pretty well versed are unlikely to learn anything they didn’t already know. I fall somewhere in between, so whilst I didn’t learn a huge amount, there were some things I hadn’t heard about or read about before. The book is very well researched, and is written in an engaging, chatty style, which makes it pretty easy to read. However, there were a couple of things that didn’t work for me. Firstly, there were occasions where this book dragged. This usually happened when the monarch under the spotlight wasn’t particularly interesting, or had a short reign. The other problem is, despite the chronological layout, the author sometimes moves on to a different king, but then backtracks and talks about an event that happened in the previous king’s reign, making it a bit hard to follow, as well as coming across as a bit disjointed. I will sum up by saying this is a good book, but not a great one. It’s enjoyable enough, and I’m glad I read it, but it’s definitely not the best historical biography I have read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 #bookreview #nonfiction #history

As is fairly well-known, Pakistan’s notorious ISI procured some version of my book 'Fighting to the End: The Pakistan Army’s Way of War' (2014) before it went to press and a very nasty confrontation ensued, which effectively resulted in my inability to return to the country. However, work collecting material continued. One day while briefing a fairly senior US intelligence official about my ongoing work which attests to the continued activities of the organisation despite Pakistan’s numerous attestations to the contrary, I told her my well-kept secret: I was obtaining them through inter-library loan, usually from the US Library of Congress., writes @cchristinefair [Link in bio] #Taliban #terrorism #lashkar #Pakistan #books #nonfiction

📚Like so many of us, award-winning writer Katy Butler always assumed her aging parents would experience healthy, active retirements before dying peacefully at home. Then her father suffered a stroke that left him incapable of easily finishing a sentence or showering without assistance. Her mother was thrust into full-time caregiving, and Katy became one of the 24 million Americans who help care for aging parents. In an effort to correct a minor and non–life threatening heart arrhythmia, doctors outfitted her father with a pacemaker. The device kept his heart beating but did nothing to prevent his slide into dementia, incontinence, near-muteness, and misery With a reporter's skill, a poet's eye, and a daughter's love, Butler explores what happens when our terror of death collides with the technological imperatives of modern medicine. Knocking on Heaven's Door is a visionary map through the labyrinth of a broken and morally adrift medical system. It will inspire the necessary and difficult conversations we all need to have with loved ones as it illuminates a path to a better way of death. #spineandlabelbooks #bookishgram #bookstores #AbujaBookstore #bookstoreinabuja #books #mustread #medical #nonfiction #memoir #death #bookstoread #psychology #science #health #biography

YOUR WEIGHT IS NOT THE PROBLEM by Lyndi Cohen. Having a tween daughter and spending time around my family at Christmas really highlighted for me that I don't want to pass on to her all the toxic diet culture that was so prevalent when I was growing up and really added misery to my life. This book is a fantastic resource in my journey to ditch diet culture for good. I really like how personal and how practical it is and the focus on health behaviours. Definitely a simple and straightforward read. I really like how much expertise and research has gone in to the book. Definitely one I will keep on the shelf and come back to for reminders! "Going on a diet is like putting up a tent for shelter. It's quick to get started, giving you an instant results. But you can't live in a tent for the rest of your life. On the other hand, building a healthier life is like building a home." p108.

All the Beauty in the World by Patrick Bringley @patrickbringley Published by @vintagebooks 'When Patrick's older brother dies at the tender age of twenty-six, all he wants to do is retreat. So, he does. He quits his job and seeks refuge in the most beautiful place he knows: New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art'. So states the back cover of this absolute gem of a book. As a regular museum and gallery goer, it was fascinating to read about what goes on behind the scenes at the Met, from the wonderfully named tailor Johnny Buttons, to the activity involved in moving exhibits after hours. What I loved most about this book was hearing Patrick Bringley's perspective on the art, and the power of art to connect with human emotions. His grief for his brother is palpable but the book never strays into sentimentality; it is more a tribute than an elegy. I was in an art gallery recently, and as I was nearly at the end of the book, I found myself viewing both the art and the staff in a different way. It had never occurred to me that marble floors would be harder on the feet than wood, or even more luxurious, carpet! You don't have to be an art lover to appreciate this book but, it you read it, there is a good chance you will become one. I adored it ❤️ #books #bookstagram #museum #met #metropolitanmuseumofart #Newyork #artgallery #beauty #ny #nonfiction #art #lifestyle #grief #lifestyle #readingformentalhealth #resdersofig #bookreview #patrickbringley #vintage #bookrecommendations

On a beautiful and warm exploration of the power of love. I read a few Anne Lamott’s older books and liked them, so when I saw that this book was recommended by quite a few people I admire, I couldn’t resist. The book really highlights what love can do, from comforting us, challenging us to sustaining us and guiding us forward.⁣ ⁣ Within the book, Anne Lamott tells the stories and goes through the many forms of love; not romantic love, but more community and friendship type of love. She also writes about her personal experience in taking ownership of her own action and behaviour, and learning from it. I laughed, I was moved by what I read and I definitely had a lot to reflect on. ⁣ ⁣ “…If the younger ones in our lives can remember only this one idea, that they are here, briefly, a little space to love and to have been loved, then they will have all they need, because love is all they need, rain or shine—love, cough drops, and one another. Good old love, elusive and steadfast, fragile and unbreakable, and always there for the asking; always, somehow.”⁣ ⁣ I must say that I probably prefer ‘Bird by Bird’ a little more, but this heartwarming and witty book was a comforting read when I needed it most. The world is really a much better place when it’s filled with love and compassion.⁣ ⁣ #somehow #annelamott #love #spirituality #philosophy #essays #memoir #biography #nonfiction #books #bookworm #booklover #bookstagram #bibliophile #igreads #igbooks #stephreads #springreading #london #inspired #motivated #weekendvibes #springvibes #coffee #diptyque #gratitude #mindfulness #riseandshine#love

📚Reading Update📚 Part 2 of chapter 1. After discovering that we are mostly strangers to ourselves, it is time to examine why. The hidden parts of ourselves have their roots in our childhood; small slights by adults -- however well-meaning -- seem like grave transgressions in the eyes of a toddler with less space, emotionally and mentally, to grasp what has happened. As children, our emotions are giant beasts that seem to run away with us. But not because we are now grown up does it mean that that perception of our emotions has changed. Over the years, we've relied on mental systems created by our toddler brains and have somehow not been able to make the connection between our current behaviours -- our triggers, our quirks, our vices -- to things that have happened to us in our formative years. This is where the term 'inner child' comes into play. In order to become emotionally intelligent adults, we must parent the scared, frustrated, and lonely child inside us all. . . . #bookofthemonth #bookshelf #currentread #reading #nonfiction #selfhelp #selflove #theschooloflife #tbr #booksofinstagram #booksofig #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #readersofinstagram #readersofig #blackreaders #blackreadersofig #blackbookstagram #blackbookstagrammer

. . . #DaiDuongDen #nonfiction #healing #tramcam #reviewsach #bookstagramvn #sarahreadingdays #linhsarahtran
