Crime, thriller and mystery are my favourite genres. What about you? I had read The Perfect Marriage a while ago and honestly, I had forgotten about it. It hadn't stood out to me. When I saw reels about people loving it and recommending it, I was surprised (mainly doubtful of my own taste that others considered it a masterpiece and I considered it to be forgetful) Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad book. But it's not great either. It would not be in my top 5 books to read in the crime and mystery genre. It's a decent book that has a good plot twist at the end. It will keep you hooked but something about this book is not as engaging as the others I have read. It did not leave an impact. Firstly this was such good narration by Penelope Rawlins and Kelly Burke, this is a high quality audiobook. It’s a psychological thriller, with lots of twists along the way. It centres around Anna, who begins a relationship with Cary, whose wife Presley disappeared a year ago and is presumed dead and Cary is now bringing up their baby daughter Harper with help from Presley’s mother. Anna quickly falls for Cary and beautiful Harper, taking on the roll of wife and mother and finds herself in a new neighbourhood and surrounded by a community into which she doesn’t fit and goes on to find out that they are all holding onto their own lies and secrets, including Cary. This was an easy, enjoyable listen and I loved the twists along the way. Definitely recommend. Zdruzgotana nastolatka jest załamana, jednak jak bardzo duży szok wywołała u niej informacja, że ma aż pięciu starszych braci? Duża, ogromna, niestety ale dziewczyna nie jest chętna do poznawania ich oraz ich życia. Życie Hailie zmienia się, a za tym idą tego przyczyny. - Mam nieco duży problem z bohaterką, a taki, że jest ona bardzo, ale to bardzo głupia i lekkomyślna. To mi ogromnie przeszkadzało, wiele razy musiałam przestać czytać z samego zażenowania jaki był spowodowany jej zachowaniem. Do niektórych z braci mam lekkie niezrozumienie, ponieważ traktują swoją siostrę jak wroga, co jest nieco nie na miejscu. Ich siostra nic im nie zrobiła i nie prosiła się o śmierć jej najbliższych, więc nie zasługuje na takie traktowanie. Oraz to, że KAŻDY uważa ją za dziecko, które co najmniej ma osiem lat i nie umie pisać. Jakby to mnie masakrycznie denerwowało ponieważ nasza bohaterka jest już nastolatką więc umie sobie radzić, a w tych czasach myślę że taką 14-latkę bardzo by to zdenerwowało takie traktowanie (a bynajmniej tak myślę, widząc niektóre). W sensie uważam że autorka trochę przesadziła, nie za bardzo, aczkolwiek moim zdaniem trochę tak. Być może jest to kwestia tego, że ja niezbyt potrafię czytać o bohaterkach które nie są asertywne i odpowiedzialne, no a Hailie taka nie była. saving 6, @authorchloewalsh ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ i’m emotionally wrecked, RUINED. this was truly a gut wrenching, sad asf book😭😭😖😫❤️🩹 i hurt so much for joey - the burden he carries on his shoulders, like i just want to take it all away and allow him to breathe a little although i fully loved this book it wasn’t in the direction i thought it would take - like i imagined it starting from the time after keeping 13? i was definitely taken back by the time jump. i lowkey wanted it to have picked up from the events of after keeping 13 (mostly bc i miss shannon & johnny so much🥹) it was also interesting to have my perspective of joey & aiofe shattered (like idk for me their representation in the first two books built up a completely different image in my head). but seeing their story develop from their perspective had so much more depth and heartache it’s so funny how obsessed i’ve become with this world, my every thought is directed towards these characters. if you haven’t started boys of tommen, what are you doing?? no one talk to me while i continue reading this series coz i will not put it down until i’m finished.

magnolia parks & daisy haites review & aesthetic 🐝🌼🇬🇧 so last month i revisited the magnolia parks universe and absolutely fell in love, i’m currently reading the long way home and it’s breaking my heart but i can’t wait to see what happens🤍 magnolia parks 5⭐️; so this was my second time reading this book, the first time i rated it 3⭐️ and didn’t have any desire to carry on with the series. Howeverrr, this time around i am absolutely OBSESSED. I’m not sure what it is but it’s so much better than the first time i read it. the characters, the toxicity, everything about this book absolutely consumed me. I love Magnolia so much & controversially i also love BJ. I felt so much anxiety reading the last few chapters of this book i genuinely felt like i was there. daisy haites 5⭐️; i will never recover from “you can be done baby” i loved every single second of this book, i went through 500 different emotions while reading it but i would do it again in a heartbeat. daisy is my girl, probably one of my favourite female characters i’ve ever read about. currently i’m a daisychristian girl over bjmagnolia but that may change. take this as your sign to give this series a second chance because i promise it’s even better the second time round💛 🐝have you read this series?

Aquí va mi #reseña sobre Asesinato en la librería sin spoilers. 🕵🏻♀️ Es una lectura ágil y entretenida que se lee con facilidad. En la trama todo gira en torno al caso y no hay una gran profundización en los personajes. 🕵🏻♀️ Nos encontramos con una joven escritora que, de repente, está conectada con un asesinato… del que no quiere desligarse por varios motivos. Y así comenzamos a investigar con ella los entresijos del misterio. 🕵🏻♀️ A lo largo de la trama desfilan varios personajes secundarios que permiten a la autora generar interés y confusión. ¿Quién habrá cometido el crimen? 🔎🔎 🕵🏻♀️ En algunos momentos la ingenuidad de la protagonista me ha hecho sufrir… había cosas que se intuían con facilidad. Es más, a partir de un determinado giro en la segunda mitad no me ha costado deducir quién era la mano ejecutora de todo el tinglado, pero eso no ha entorpecido mi experiencia de lectura. No esperéis un misterio intrincado, pero sí lo suficiente para entretener y hacer pasar un buen rato. I loved this book. The plot was so unique, I thought it would be a simple straight forward book but it was so much more than that. It was so raw, and exciting showing realistic situations and complications in adult life. I love how Abigail tried to justify her husbands actions from the hand of his manipulative behaviour. ✨️Snowblooded✨️ Arc Review Plucked from the streets, two children are raised to compete for their guild masters approval. Valour and Petrichor rise to he esteemed members of the Order of Axsten. An assassins guild tasked with keeping order in the city of Vinterstock. Now, they are given with their biggest job yet, to kill the mysterious leader of the city's illegal magic trade. This book had so much promise, assassins, magic, illicit gangs, and remnants of norse mythology all set in an Edwardian style adventure but felt like it didn't really carry this idea. The plot was good and really picked up when the assassins got to the tipping point of their mission but I found so much of the book was filled with the two assassins squabbling with each other, throwing each other insults to annoy the other and not that much work on the mission itself. The two assassins are described as the elite of their group but consistently seemed haphazard, clumsy, and not very believable as the elite assassins they are described as. For me, the redeeming factor was the last 150ish pages where there was fighting, reconnaissance, and some plot twists, all things you'd expect from an assassin novel with high stakes. Overall, I found it an okay novel but could have done with more drama and tension to show the severity of the mission and fewer scenes with what felt like childish behaviour. There were some badass characters that could have been so much more with a little more development. I would have loved to have seen more about the Assassin order and the leader of the group. Would you believe someone's story if it kept changing? I can't put into words how much I enjoyed this book. Each page kept me reguessing every suspect and had me on the edge of my seat. It's impossible to put down. If it wasn't for work, I would have read this in one sitting. A gripping novel that had my heart breaking for some of the characters. While some characters had my heart racing in anger. Holly Jackson knows how to grip the reader and keep the story engaging. Die US-amerikanische Schriftstellerin Toni Morrison (1931-2019) erhielt 1993 den Nobelpreis für Literatur. Sie zählt bis heute zu den bedeutendsten Vertreterinnen der afroamerikanischen Literatur. Während ihrer Karriere veröffentlichte sie eine einzige Erzählung: Rezitativ. 1983 wurde die Erzählung erstmals veröffentlicht, die nun auch ins Deutsche übersetzt wurde. Doch was. ist das Besondere an dieser kurzen Erzählung? Die Geschichte wurde aus der Ich-Perspektive von Twyla geschrieben. Gleich zu Beginn des Textes auf der ersten Seiten des Buches heißt es: „Schlimm genug, früh am Morgen aus dem eigenen Bett geholt zu werden - aber dann noch an einem fremden Ort festzusitzen, zusammen mit einem Mädchen von ganz anderer Hautfarbe!“ Der Lesende erfährt gleich zu Beginn, dass die Mädchen unterschiedliche Hautfarben haben. Welches der Mädchen welche Hautfarbe hat, bleibt jedoch unklar. Und so beginnt das kluge Gedankenexperiment dieser Geschichte, das mit den Klischees und Vorurteilen unserer Gesellschaft spielt. In dem Nachwort von Zadie Smith versucht sie sich die Autorin den Motiven von Toni Morrison zu nähern und die Verwirrung aufzulösen. Hallo zusammen Wieder ein Hörbuch, doch dieses hat: Leider nicht ganz überzeugt Sam hat sich geschworen nie wieder zu lieben, nachdem sie ihre erste große Liebe verlor. Im Krankenhaus lernt sie Neo kennen, er ist immer schlecht gelaunt und todkrank. Neo möchte am liebsten nur schreiben und seine Ruhe. Sony, ein Mädchen mit nur einem Lungenflügel, Coeur, einen sanften Riesen mit einem versagenden Herzen. Gemeinsam versuchen sie, sich zurückzuholen, was die Krankheiten ihnen genommen haben, zu erleben, was sie nicht wie andere Jugendliche erleben dürfen. Die Freundschaft hält sie zusammen und doch haben sie die Endlichkeit stets vor Augen. Das Cover ist sehr schön und den Klappentext fand ich auch auch sehr interessant. Es wird sehr poetisch geschrieben und der Erzählstrang wurde aus Sam´s Sicht erzählt. Es geht hier um Freundschaft, Liebe, Gefühle und den Tod. Ich muss sagen als ich dieses Buch gesehen habe, habe ich mich drauf gefreut es zu hören, doch leider wurde ich enttäuscht. Ich kam in die Geschichte nicht rein und habe mich auch oft verloren gefühlt, irgendwie hat mir der rote Faden gefehlt. Zu den Protagonisten konnte ich keine Verbindung aufbauen, weil man sie nicht richtig kennenlernen konnte. 📚 #BookReview - #TheMurderAtTheVicarage by @officialagathachristie #ReadChristie2024 - April Selection (1930s) April’s Read Christie selection kicks off the next decade, with 1930s THE MURDER AT THE VICARAGE, the first of the Marple novels. This book really is a fine example of Christie’s plotting prowess, as it’s a beautifully layered and intricate mystery with a wonderfully logical conclusion. Along the way, almost everyone becomes a suspect and it’s a fantastic example of literary misdirection and surprising plot twists (before they were the backbone of crime fiction marketing!). I throughly enjoyed trying to follow along with the suspicions and attempt to form my own theories. As always, Christie expertly veils the truth, so that the final revelation comes as a surprise and yet feels so blindingly obvious. This is a very neat mystery, which ties up all the loose ends that have come unravelled along the way. It’s resplendent with suspects - virtually everyone has something against victim, Protheroe - which allows for so many potential motives. One thing that has surprised me with the Marple mysteries I’ve read so far, is how little she appears in the novel. This is no different, as the story is told from the perspective of the local vicar, Clement. As such a key character, I always expect Marple to be more prominent. Having said that, what this does mean, is that her appearances are noteworthy and it’s clear that nobody can match her intellect or intuition in St. Mary Mead! Telling the story from the Vicar’s perspective does allow for a lot of wit to be interspersed between the mystery. Clement is a very humorous character and I enjoyed his observations and some of his slightly unchristian remarks. This blend of wit and mystery makes THE MURDER AT THE VICARAGE just as readable and enjoyable today as it was upon release in 1930!
𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕝𝕠𝕟𝕘 𝕨𝕒𝕪 𝕥𝕠 𝕒 𝕤𝕞𝕒𝕝𝕝 𝕒𝕟𝕘𝕣𝕪 𝕡𝕝𝕒𝕟𝕖𝕥 by Becky Chambers 5/5 🌟 Originally a self-published standalone, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘞𝘢𝘺 has come a long way, now the first book in a loosely-tied Hugo award winning series called 𝘞𝘢𝘺𝘧𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘳𝘴. We follow Rosemary, a human, newly hired for her clerking skills aboard the tunneling ship 𝘞𝘢𝘺𝘧𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘳. She seems to be running away from her past in the sol system, and maybe being adrift in space is the way to go. There, we meet the rest of the multispecies crew (swipe right), who more or less choose to drift together. Most of them welcome Rosemary with open hearts, and you guessed it, we have a found family in the making! I love that stuff. Each character’s self-exploration drives the story forward, more so than the crew’s exploration of the galaxies. We oscillate from the minuscule to the vast, from the individual crew, to ship dynamics, to interspecies cultures, to planetary political machinations. This being speculative/sci-fi, there were more ways for Chambers to discuss philosophical conundrums in the context of something bigger than humanity itself, outside looking in. Not your typical entry-level sci-fi, with its immense, multi-species galactic scope. The world(s)building and characterizations are beyond “thinking outside the box”, maybe for Chambers there is no “box”. Even so, there’s just something about 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘞𝘢𝘺 that makes me want to recommend it to everyone, even to those who don’t read sci-fi. Trust the author, she knows what she’s doing: her universe becomes so believable that for all its novelty and impossibility, at the root, it’s a universe bounded in a book that comforts us in its familiarity. For we are all familiar with living, no?

This book tells us what's our role in any society, no matter where we live we all are connected, through land and languages. It was my first ever Historical fiction novel. It took me almost 2 and a half months to complete it, because it was kinda slow paced and complex for me. But the writing style is amazing and the writer did a great job diving into different languages, their connections, their impacts on humanity and how the language is a bridge to a culture. The way the city of Oxford was fantasized and how it fell after the so-called revolution is really something to devour. Though the second half was fast paced and full of suspense and action, it somehow felt a little hollow to me. So little elements of fantasy and flat characters with zero to no impact on the story made it a little boring . It's no shame to say this book made me laugh, cry and mourn the modern age, because nothing has changed. I can relate this book to the current situation, idk if you can, but it made me rethink about my concepts about certain aspects. It seems to me that Sontag was able to understand our modern world tendencies and addictions better than we ourselves do living in it. When this book came in the mail I was immediately drawn to it. The book is made up of a few different essays, all circling around the theme of photography. What I found particularly brilliant were Sontag’s remarks on the way we consume photographs. I truly do not understand how this book was written 46 years ago. The way she quite literally predicts tendencies that are now so widely spread across our society is truly astounding, like she does when she writes: “Needing to have reality confirmed and experience enhanced by photographs is an aesthetic consumerism to which everyone is now addicted. Industrial societies turn their citizens into image-junkies; it is the most irresistible form of mental pollution.” Or when she says: “It would not be wrong to speak of people having a compulsion to photograph: to turn experience itself into a way of seeing. Ultimately, having an experience becomes identical with taking a photograph of it, and participating in a public event comes more and more to be equivalent to looking at it in photographed form.” This seems to me to perfectly translate to our modern saying “Post it or it didn’t happen”. Having been quite the avid photographer my entire life and growing up with a family who was as much into it as I am (I got my first camera as a gift when I was 5 years old because my mum was tired of me stealing hers all the time, and my grandpa left me with hundreds of photos I happily get to look at whenever I want), this essay truly made me reflect on my own tendencies towards photography. How, for example, I’ve become less and less willing to share photos on social media and prefer to treasure them and keep them private. I haven’t stopped taking photos, I literally don’t leave my home without my film camera and have a whopping 22,495 photos on my phone — I just love to treasure these memories more than I love sharing them. As Sontag herself remarks, “All photographs are memento mori. To take a photograph is to participate in another person’s mortality, vulnerability, mutability.”

A causa della sua grave infermità mentale, Milligan è stato il primo individuo negli Stati Uniti a essere dichiarato non colpevole di gravi crimini, in quanto gli stessi erano stati commessi da alcune delle sue personalità senza che il soggetto ne avesse coscienza. Una storia disturbante che fa riflettere molto sulla complessità della mente umana e sui suoi meccanismi di difesa. The Longest Ride By Nicholas Sparks ⭐️: 3/5 91 year old Ira Levinson is in trouble when his car goes off the road and he finds himself stranded and injured in the middle of a snowstorm, with only the memory of his dead wife Ruth there for company. Nearby, college senior Sophia meets young cowboy Luke at a bull-riding event, and they strike up an unlikely but passionate relationship. The lives and memories of these two couples who seemingly have nothing in common are about to converge with unexpected results. I absolutely LOVE the movie version of The Longest Ride, and when I didn’t find myself able to connect (at all) to the book version of A Walk to Remember, I figured, why not give Nicholas Sparks books one more shot to see if it was the book and not the author. Unfortunately, it’s the author for me. First off, since I liked the movie so much, I think I got myself into a strange predicament where I would get upset when a favorite detail was not in the original material. I also, similarly to A Walk to Remember, found the sentiments in the book presented in a bit of a reductive manner, and found the dialogue stunted and lacking. I’m not convinced that Nicholas Sparks actually knows much about the way women’s minds work at all, despite being such a celebrated romance author, so I’m left a little confused about all the hype. It is because his stories are easily adaptable to the screen? It must be. Anyway, I’ll stick to the movie versions of his books from now on.

Hey meine lieben #bookies Heute ist es wieder soweit und ich habe eine Rezension zu „Birthday Girl“ von Penelope Douglas aus dem @everlove.verlag im Gepäck. Es waren für mich einige erstemal dabei. Erstesmal ein Buch von Penelope und das erstemal das Trope „Age Gap“, daher konnte ich es gar nicht einschätzen was mich erwartet. Der Schreibstil hat mir den Einstieg in die Story total leicht gemacht, die sympathischen Charaktere habe ich schnell in mein Herz geschlossen und der Perspektivwechsel ist für mich ja immer super wichtig. So kann ich die Gefühle und Handlungen nochmal viel besser nachvollziehen und es bleiben keine Fragezeichen in meinem Kopf. Die Konflikte die Jordan und Pike durchstehen müssen, sind kompliziert und sie müssen ihre eigenen Bedenken über Bord werfen, was im Hinblick auf das Getuschel der Leute und familiären Umfeld unmöglich erscheint. Die Liebesgeschichte ist hochemotional und tiefgründig und es war ein absoluter Lesegenuss. Es hat mich total geflasht und ich muss noch immer an die Beiden zurückdenken. Ich möchte unbedingt noch mehr Bücher der Autorin lesen. a nonfiction review on a beautiful sunday Outpost follows our author as he finds the most remote shacks, sheds, homesteads, or just sanctuaries from the elements. It’s broken up into various places around the world that you can discover some true desolate gems. I really love the concept of this, and there are a few chapters/outposts that really captivated me like mars, Utah and his trek through Iceland. There were others though that I felt like the journey of discovering the writing of the story overshadowed the actual story itself. I don’t know if that makes any sense but I just wasn’t as privy to it as I was some other travel writing. still good, just not knock me out. 3.75/5 recommend for those that really love Jack Kerouac and also want to disappear into the woods and never talk to another person ever ever again in a weird scary hermit way not like a cottage core way.

I'm still struggling to fully focus on a book over here, but mixing them with an audiobook seems to be doing the trick. I've just finished Trick Mirror which I loved (should be more to come), and I'm currently reading Elatsoe by Darcy Little Badger, which I'm struggling with. Any recommendations to end this half slump? Butter came off my library holds a few days ago, so I might just go with it.
