BOOK • REVIEW Title: Do Your Worst Author: Rosie Danan Genre: Paranormal Romance This was a cute, quick romance read. I loved the setting of the castle in Scotland and all of the mystery and magic that this story had. In this book Riley tries to make a career out of her family tradition of curse breaking. She travels to Scotland to a haunted castle to try and break a 300+ year old curse. Upon her arrival so goes to a pub and meets a handsome Englishman. The next day at work, she walked into the castle to find the same man from the night before trying to get her fired… The setting and all of the history surrounding curses and how to break them was interesting. Those were some of my favorite aspects in the story overall. I didn’t hate the characters, but I didn’t love them either. However, I did enjoy watching their relationship grow as the story progressed. This was a typical enemies to lovers plot without any surprises, but it was still an enjoyable read. I loved The Bridge Kingdom. So much that when I saw Jensen was coming out with a new series, I preordered it right away. The world building and enemies to lovers vibes in The Bridge Kingdom was done so well, I was hoping for more of that. Married to a man she can't stand, Freya lives a simple life, cleaning the fish her husband catches and sells. She dreams of becoming a warrior and very soon, after her husband betrays her, she realizes her dream will become reality. Now she must fight the jarl's son, Bjorn, who possesses a drop of the god Tyr's blood, granting him the ability to have a fire ax. Fortunately and unfortunately, Freya possesses a drop of the goddess Hlin's blood, gifting her the ability to shield. Her power is something her father begged her to conceal, lest she end up being fought over by men who would use her for power, which is exactly the situation Freya ends up in, married to the jarl. She must fight for him, while simultaneously fighting her attraction to his son. There were a couple of solid twists in this book that I didn't see coming and now I'm excited for the next in this series! I really like Freya, she's the strong female MC I love to see. This doesn't live up to The Bridge Kingdom for me quite yet, but I'm curious and hopeful to see of book two changes my perspective. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ #QOTD Any upcoming new releases you're excited about?

For Hannah this isn't the first time she's been embroiled in such a nightmare. Private is working night and day to find Hannah, not least because they fear that she might be the latest victim in a group of women that are turning up dead, with their bodies mutilated. You generally know what you're getting with a James Patterson book and this one fits the bill. It's fast paced and full of action, and if you're not too hung up on things being technically and procedurally accurate then it's a great read. Just what I needed. Just from the title and cover I knew it was good to be a chaotic book 😂. This book was so real and the main character Paulina A.K.A Iye baby A.K.A Authentic mama was the embodiment of “Survival of the fittest”, the real definition of “some of us is too busy to be bae”. She was such a strong character giving off no nonsense vibes and I was hailing her from time to time. Such a chaotic book, I loved every bit of it. I laughed so much and the thing about this plot is that you can easily envision it in your head clearly as you are reading, the movie adaptation will be a hit. It felt like I was right there with them at Nimbe city. The other characters were something else entirely; Valentine and his flexible waist with his monkey, Baba baby the vulture, Action the woman beater, fine girl the sharp girl, iya labake BBC, Oga barrister the stingy man, promise the hypocrite, beauty the no nonsense woman, Oyinbo the rival and others will leave you almost breathless from laughing too hard. I really love the end of this book, it shows there might just be light at the end of the tunnel for everyone. I’ll recommend this book to anyone looking to have a good time. En cada capítulo de la novela vamos a conocer la historia de los descendientes de cada linaje. La manera de escribir de la autora hace que entremos de lleno en la historia, y a pesar de que cuenta circunstancias muy fuertes, la novela engancha y te quedas con ganas de saber más. Lubicie powieści gotyckie? Która jest Waszą ulubioną? „Carmilla” Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu przekł. Paulina Braiter-Ziemkiewicz Wydawnictwo Uroboros Udało mi się ostatnio sięgnąć po jedną z najnowszych premier wydawnictwa Uroboros - „Carmillę” zilustrowaną przez Aleksandrę Czudżak, wydaną z okazji 50. rocznicy pierwszego polskiego przekładu. „Carmilla” to powieść gotycka, wydana po raz pierwszy w roku 1872. Książka opowiada o relacji głównej bohaterki (mieszkającej z ojcem i służbą w starym zamku) z dopiero co poznaną młodą dziewczyną - tytułową Carmillą. Przyznam, że o „Carmilli” usłyszałam dopiero w tym roku przy okazji jubileuszowego wydania powieści. I zdziwiona jestem, że tak mało się o tej książce mówi (a w zasadzie mówiło?). Ciekawie prowadzona narracja, delikatny dreszczyk i napięcie oraz sama historia Carmilli to zdecydowane plusy tej powieści. Książkę czyta się bardzo szybko (a jeśli macie ochotę jej posłuchać to na Empik Go też macie taką możliwość !). Sama Carmilla ma coś w sobie - jakiś pazur i coś co człowieka przyciąga. Książka zdecydowanie wyprzedza swoje czasy - ukazuje kobietę jako postać silną, mającą własne cele i potrzeby, w relacji miłosnej z inną kobietą (może bardziej między wierszami i nieszczególnie obrazowo, ale wciąż! 😉). „Carmilla” może i mnie nie zachwyciła, nie jest to „moja” książka, ale czytało mi się ją bardzo dobrze. A poznawanie literatury sprzed 150 lat to zawsze ciekawe doświadczenie. Cieszę się, że mogłam przeczytać tę historię. Here is my review of One Of Us Knows by Alyssa Cole This book is an intriguing read and quite creepy in places. It’s good at building up the tension in the book for the reader and it’s a great thrilling read. The writing is superb and the plotting is excellent whilst the descriptive text is brilliant at describing everything in general in great detail. Ken doesn’t remember applying for the job on the island but then it could have been one of her alternative egos that applied on her behalf. She manages to spend the first night there so passes the test but then runs into Landon, her ex boyfriend, and he tells her she doesn’t have the job. She will take his word for it but Celeste reckons he has no authority to make that decision, then he turns up dead. Only Ken is the main suspect but she didn’t do it. Did she? Olivia comes back to the Hamptons to help her family pack up their family home, only to find her old ex, Fred, is the one who has now bought the property. This second chance romance was quite a sweet read. I enjoyed the dual timelines of then and now so we could see the buildup of Olivia and Fred's relationship and what went wrong. The chemistry between the main characters was evident throughout and I couldn't help rooting for them to hurry up and make it official! I enjoyed listening to the audiobook (the narration was excellent!) as I read along and loved listening to all the tennis talk! Będzie musiał stawić czoła tym których zawiódł i będzie musiał stoczyć wojnę, tym razem o honor swojego ojca, który przez większość czasu i tak go nie poznaje bo Alzheimer wyniszcza mu życie. Wracając na stare śmieci nie podejrzewa,że jego życie zmieni się o 180 stopni. Nawet o tym nie myślał ale los tak chciał.Chciał mu wynagrodzić stracony czas i ból ale musi dobrze to rozegrać. Czy poradzi sobie z nowymi wyzwaniami? Rebecca Yarros po raz kolejny udowadnia,że potrafi grać na uczuciach czytelników. Sięgając po jej książki wiem,że nie obejdzie się bez wzruszeń. I tutaj było tak samo. Opowieść o stracie i bólu, który nadchodzi z każdej strony i o tym,że zawsze warto mieć nadzieję bo po burzy zawsze wychodzi słońce. Decyzje, które podejmujemy mają zawsze swój finał lecz jednak nie zawsze ten finał jest szczęśliwym zakończeniem. Niekiedy nie mamy na to wpływu jednak musimy z tym żyć i wierzyć w to,że przyjdzie lepszy czas. Ja książki tej autorki biorę w ciemno i polecam Wam zapoznać się z jej twórczośćią o ile jeszcze nie znajcie. Pamiętajcie tylko żeby mieć pod ręką paczkę chusteczek bo mogą się przydać. One from the vault! Historically, I’ve been quite a fan of Shari Lapena’s work. But I have to confess, this one didn’t really hit the spot for me. The plot, which is based around a man who may or may not have killed his first wife, sees his second wife slowly drawn into the existing ambiguities around this first death. On the surface, it seems like a plot with great potential for tension, atmosphere and discomfort. In practice, it didn’t hit these marks for me. The psychology of the characters didn’t ring quite true and, for a book that’s relatively short anyway, it still felt as though the pace was lacking. I pushed through to the end through sheer curiosity more so than anything else and once there, I felt a little underwhelmed by the close of the work. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t be put off Lapena’s work altogether! 📚 BOOK REVIEW 📚 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ This book is about Charlie and Silas, friends forever but now dating but they've woken up with no memories of each other or who they are at all. All of their memories have just vanished and they must now try and figure out who they are and what on earth has happened to them!! I've heard so many mixed reviews for this book, so many. I was a little apprehensive when diving into it as I love coho books and didn't want it to disappoint! And it didn't. I loved it. I loved the concept of the book, and I was so intrigued the whole time I was reading to find out what was happening to them both, and I actually really liked the reveal too. It was such a quick and easy read too and i forget how much I love coho!!

A modern masterpiece, Piglet had me from the first page. I could write essays for all of the different meanings Hazell has attributed to food and eating habits. Social class, social image, body image, control, self-harm, self-regulation, and healing. Piglet (the character) is everything, and I was so attached to her that I held my breath through several scenes. This writing is a masterclass in tension, because oh my god, do I ever feel tense. My only complaint is that some of the secondary characters didn’t quite make sense to me, and I’m not sure if it’s a character-development issue or just a lack of explanation issue. A new series and a new author for me. I loved how the mysticism of New Orleans wafted its way to the Colorado Rockies. The scent of magnolias was like the do do music playing in the background…very ominous. Rachel was bad ass all through the book. The best part was her time with the Collector. It was so creepy how she held her own against the demented maniac. I surmised her plan based on her tote bag before it was implemented and I got some hardy laughs at the descriptive outcome. However, it was also scary and I read faster to see what would happen. Hunky Helicopter Hank and his Stetson had my heart from the start. The ending was sublime but I must know what happens to the other sisters! I finally got how the book title fit in after Cuckoo of the Crows fluttered in. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book was everywhere the past few years and it’s been sitting in my TBR pile waiting patiently for me to pick it up. I’ll say this, the book is wholesome and lovely and like being wrapped in a warm hug, but up until about 50 pages to the end I was set on 3 stars and didn’t care to finish. It wasn’t bad so please don’t think that it just didn’t have an emotional impact on me. All at once everything started coming together and it was too beautiful not to have an impact on my cold dead heart. Viv has spent her life fighting and killing to make a living and has retired from her life with a sword strapped to her back and decided to take her life’s earnings and open a coffee shop… only nobody there knows what coffee is. Viv builds some amazing friendships and the character development was so perfect I can’t even deal. Thimble was probably my favorite character, but Cal was up there too. What a great day to read! 📖✨ Just started going through my favorite sci-fi series and I'm so happy to be part of @astridcolebooks ARC readers. I've recently read through Book I (Diamond City) and Book II (Emerald City) and I remember how much character growth my girl Sage has gone through!! I've only gobbled up a couple of chapters (on this 3rd book) and pizza slices but I can't wait to finish. Or actually I don't want to finish I just want to read more. The theme was Danny DeVito - we have a long running inside joke at trivia - and I didn’t even place this week. BUT, I did tie for first in our tournament and I won the tie breaker. Book Review: Happiness for Beginners Helen Carpenter, a recent divorcee, has decided she needs a reset on her life. Having little experience with hiking or the great outdoors, she signs up for a wilderness survival course. Unbeknownst to her, Jake, her younger brother’s best friend, also signed up for the course. Jake is an important character, one that brings Helen love and happiness. While on the course, Helen meets several interesting characters with unique reasons for attending the course. She befriends Windy and learns about her thoughts on happiness. Windy is one of my favorite characters, a psychology student studying what is right about humans as opposed to all of our imperfections. On the trip, Helen learns more about herself, how to experience joy and grasp happiness when she has it. In the end, Helen realizes that there will be difficult times in life but never to let go of the joy. I did enjoy the story since I love coming-of-age stories (since we all have them at different stages of our lives). The Office of Historical Corrections by Danielle Evans is a collection of short stories and one novella that bears the title name. I don't usually like short stories, but these are so impeccably written that you are drawn into the story right away. Evans zooms into each of the characters with such realness that they don't feel like fiction. Each story deals with race, history, the complexities of humanity, doing the "right" thing, and the ripples of our decisions. Each story was better than the last. Having finally figured out the app and the livestream (it was on youtube the whole time?!), I took full advantage of technology by watching the incredible morning panel with Naomi Klein at home in bed, and the afternoon panels on interfaith solidarity and anti-war action while strolling through the @oaklandmuseumca rooftop gardens. As much as I do appreciate sitting in the chair and focusing on taking notes, something about that auditorium gave me the worst drowsy spells 🤣🤣 so I reminded myself that taking a walk and surrounding myself with nature was also a way to process information.
