Lady Venom Takes A Mistress is an Adult Gothic Dark Romance that is oh so steamy ๐ Poesy knows the screams at night belong to the men stupid enough to wander the woods where Lady Venom hunts. Whispered rumors of the lore surrounding the mysterious man killer is on everyoneโs lips in Poesyโs village. Yet when Poesy is sold to a horrible man who will become her husband, she flees to safety within the dangerous woods. When she stumbles upon the snake infested home of Lady Venom she discovers a life she never knew possible for her in the mysterious yet beautiful and alluring womanโs arms. Honestly, this is probably the darkest book that I have read to date. And this is counting, Haunting Adeline. So definitely be aware, if you arenโt. The two main characters are insane (not literally) and I guess I must be a little mental myself because I really liked this. ๐ The plot deals heavily with the dark side of religion and trauma. The two characters in this connect because of the trauma and also just the male dominance that is so apparent in not only religion but people of power. I loved how this turned out. I wasnโt so sure Iโd like this book, but it really ended up being super good! If you like 13 Going on 30 youโll probably really like this one. ๐ Lucy is in the throes of establishing a career, but itโs harder than she expected. Even her promotion isnโt really that good. Her flat is pretty rough and she never has extra spending money. After a particularly long and awful night, she stumbles in to a shop to get out of the rain only to find a wishing machine. At the shopkeeperโs insistence, she proceeds to wish that she could skip to the good part. When she wakes up the next morning, sheโs 40 and has a husband and kids as well as a fulfilling job. Obviously she canโt remember what the last 16 years held, but the longer sheโs in the future, the more her memories resurface until she is forced to choose: the family sheโs just discovered or going back and living the 16 years she canโt remember, even though they were hard. I really loved seeing what Lucyโs โgood partโ of life looked like. Her kids were charming and her husband is sweet. And I especially liked the end. Life is the messy bits, and itโs worth living! Content warning: loss of a child, infrequent language, and brief, vague mention of bedroom scene Overall, I really enjoyed this one! #bookreview #onmyshelf #libraryfinds #thirteengoingonthirty #ifyoulikethisthen #bookrec

๐ book review ๐ A Storm of Swords: Part 1 by George R R Martin โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ I really enjoyed this one. Clash of Kings felt very much like the whole book was leading to the battle of Blackwater Bay, so I found the large passages dedicated to war strategy quite dense to get through. In comparison, A Storm of Swords focuses on the aftermath of the battle and so there was more scope for character development. As always, I loved reading about Kings Landing, and surprisingly am enjoying Sansaโs character a lot more in the books than how sheโs portrayed in the tv show. I also really enjoyed the introduction of new character chapters; Jamieโs was a particular highlight, but Samwell was also interesting to read especially after Jon left. There were moments that were slow to get through, but I think Iโm always going to feel that way about fantasy because itโs not a genre I naturally gravitate towards. I find Bran and Davos particularly dull, I never enjoyed Branโs moments in the tv show, and they arenโt anymore interesting to me in the books. Iโm excited to see where the series is going to go, especially as itโs already deviating from the tv series so, while Iโve already watched the show, I donโt feel like I know exactly whatโs going to happen. As always, Iโd definitely recommend if youโve watched the series and are interested in comparing the books, or even if you havenโt, itโs such a well written fantasy that I think people will enjoy either way.

The Boys of South Chapel are here and Abby knocked it out of the park! I was so nervous going into this book because I am a die hard fan of the Boys of Lake Chapel. I was worried it wouldnโt live up to the hype but I was completely wrong. Not only was the book everything I wanted and more but I actually loved the flashback scenes (and I usually cant stand flashbacks in books). I also donโt typically like second chance romances but Abby has proved me a liar. I loved the side of Hunter and Greedy we got to see. We were able to witness them falling for each other, obsess over the metaphorical hurricane that trashed their lives and see what came next. Even better we were introduced to Levi and bore witness to the dive into Why Choose (one of my favourite tropes). Book one was a perfect set up into the rest of the series, especially seeing as we were introduced to a surprise guest at the end (beware of the dreaded cliffhanger). I cannot wait for book 2; itโll be worth the wait! Book Review The Truths We Burn by @author.montyjay So, I knew going in that this book was going to tug at my heartstrings, but I wasnโt prepared for just how much it would wreck me. Sage and Rook? They stole my heart. Rookโs got that perfect mix of charm and vulnerability that had me swooning from the get-go. And Sage? Sheโs not your typical ice queen โ her journey from facade to vulnerability hit me right in the feels. Their relationship? Letโs just say itโs a roller coaster of emotions. The plot had me hooked, too โ mystery, character development, you name it. And with Thatcher and Lyraโs stories on the horizon, Iโm already counting down the days. Iโll be honest, I wasnโt expecting to have my heart shattered within the first few pages of this book. The angst levels were off the charts, but in the best possible way. Sage and Rookโs journey took me on an emotional whirlwind, leaving me laughing, crying, and everything in between. I totally underestimated their story, but now Iโm eating my words. This book? Itโs addictive, heart-wrenching, and downright unforgettable.
Book: The Ritual by Shantel Tessier Rating: โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ/5 Plot Summary: THE CHOSEN ONE I vow. You vow. We vow. Barrington University is home of the Lords, a secret society that requires their blood in payment. They are above allโthe most powerful men in the world. They devote their lives to violence in exchange for power. And during their senior year, they are offered a chosen one. People think growing up with money is freeing, but I promise you, itโs not. My entire life has been planned out for me. I never got the chance to do what I wanted until Ryat Alexander Archer came along and gave me an option for a better life. He offered me what no one else ever hadโfreedom. I chose to be his. He made me believe that anyway, but it was just another lie. A way that the Lords manipulate you into doing what they want. After being sucked into the dark, twisted world of the Lords, I embraced my new role and allowed Ryat to parade me around like the trophy I was to him. But like all things, what started out as a game soon became a fight for survival. And the only way out was death. Review: This captivating novel exceeded my expectations, pulling me in from the first page with its gripping storyline. Despite its length, I found myself unable to stop reading until the very end. The dynamic between the possessive male lead and the inquisitive female protagonist created tension and passion that made for an exhilarating read. ๐ญ What is a book you can't stop thinking about? I finished An Education in Malice around 2 weeks ago. When I finished it I was like: "That was a nice book." But now I feel like it was more than just nice. I'm still thinking about it. You know Iโm a fantasy girl, but I need to tell you that the stabby vibes in this book are so good. Iโm not sure what this says about me, but Butcher & Blackbird had me giggling uncontrollably at inappropriate moments, and I loved it. Thank you for putting this story out into the world @brynne_weaver Rowan and Sloane are whimsical serial k!ller hunters that turn their hobby into a competition. Allโs fair in love and murder, right? They each develop feelings for the other, having found kindred inner monsters. They are adorable together and the banter is the best. There are some oddly dark, but cute moments that give you that butterflies-in-your-tummy feeling. I took a while to finish this book because I wasnโt ready for it to end. ๐ Book Review๐ This book I think would probably fall under the category of domestic psychological thriller. Although, thriller might be a stretch. Drama definitely sums this book up well. Let me just say, every character in this book was terrible ๐คฆ๐ปโโ๏ธ I guess maybe Mara wasnโt the worst. But honestlyโฆyikes. However, easy to judge, but thatโs realistic! Everyone has things they hide from the light, so the fact that every person was hiding terrible things from each other wasnโt a deterrent to me from enjoying this book. ๐งI enjoyed listening to this audio! The narrator did a great job differentiating between the (many) voices, and it was a quick & easy listen. It was difficult to keep all the characters straight for awhile, but this has more to do with my brain than anything else. Just something to note if you go the audiobook route: lots of characters to remember & track. This book is written with multi-POV, and I personally love reading from multiple charactersโ POV, even if it takes a minute to process all of their minds & personalities. This book is a little twisty, somewhat predictable, and yet also shocking at times. I think it wins top spot for the craziest last line in a book ๐ณ Truly blew my mind ๐คฏ This book does have some content that could upset people, especially those trying to conceive. โจBook Reviewโจ To conclude The Hunger Game series, I read The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. If you canโt tell by the snow in the picture, I read this a long time ago lol. I personally really enjoyed this one. I saw the movie in theaters first and it was what made me decide to read the whole series. I think I appreciated the book more having watched the movie first; I can totally see how people who read the book before the movie might have found the book a little disappointing. Having images for all the characters ahead of time made it a bit easier to follow along as well. It also felt like the movie was a pretty faithful adaptation of the book which I can appreciate. โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ/5 #movies #film #films #adventure #postapocalyptic #Thriller #nonfiction #interview # #Book #BookRec #BookRecommendation #BookRecs #BookRecommendations #Booksta #Bookstagram #BookLovers #BookReview #BookFans #BookReviews #Books #thehungergames #bookadaptation #booktoscreen #theballadofsongbirdsandsnakes #prequel
eArc review๐ค 5โจ Oh hot damn. Rome is swoon worthy. Perfection wrapped up in tattoos and baseball pants. This book touches on a deep and dark topic, but it is so well written and the support group CeCe has is perfection. The way Rome lifts her up and shows her how strong she is, literal perfection. In the first book we met Chloe, CeCeโs sister and in this book we get to really see what both girls went through. When we first meet Rome, you already know a friendโs with benefits agreement wonโt work for him. But the effort is cute. Book Review I had never heard of Douglas Westerbeke's "A Short Walk Through a Wide World" until I saw it as a selection from BOTM. While I enjoyed the journey and the adventures our main character experienced, in the end, I was left with a few too many lingering questions. The story begins in 1885 Paris and revolves around Aubry Tourvel, a somewhat spoiled nine-year-old girl who, one day, develops a mysterious condition after she finds a mysterious puzzle ball and then refuses to drop it into a wishing well as an offering at her sisters' request. Sometime later, Aubry begins to bleed profusely from her eyes, mouth, nose, and ears. Her parents rush her across town to the hospital. By the time she gets there, the bleeding has stopped, but once she returns home, the bleeding begins again. At first, she and her family believe that maybe it's her home that causes her to bleed, but she soon discovers that she can never stay in a single place for more than two to three days before she begins to bleed to death all over again. And so begins Aubry's life of perpetual motion. She travels the world across deserts, savannahs, oceans, and snow-capped mountains, meeting many interesting folks. She faces danger, learns about love and loss, and experiences things she could never have imagined, but sadly, she can never return to any place she has visited before lest she bleed out. Her lifetime journey is both adventurous and heartbreaking at the same time. Westerbeke's writing is rich in detail and vivid in its imagery, painting beautiful pictures of the landscapes Aubry traverses on her quest for a place to call home. One downside to the novel was that I never felt a real sense of loss when Aubry left behind someone she fancied because I hadn't spent enough time with any of the side characters. I also wondered where this disease came from and why it attached itself to Aubry. I always enjoy an open ending or when the author leaves some plot points open to interpretation, but I would have liked a few more answers in this case. A more in-depth review is available on my blog (link in bio and story). Check the comments for the official synopsis.

"The Unconventional Way to Wealth" is a unique concept that argues for an important type of investment: investing in oneself. It goes beyond typical financial advice. Rather than focusing only on building up wealth in the form of material possessions, this book is primarily about helping readers achieve rich and meaningful lives by personal growth and development. The author encourages readers to think about their objectives and the real meaning of success by offering personal investment as a route to wealth. Through plenty of ideas and useful tactics, the book takes readers on a life-changing journey of empowerment and self-discovery. True wealth, according to one of the book's strongest points, goes much beyond financial prosperity. Through investing resources towards topics like self-examination learning, interpersonal connections, and individual welfare, people might develop a feeling of plenty that surpasses materialistic belongings. The book essentially argues that one's own self is the best asset one can have. #bookreview #bookrecommendations #bookrec #booknerd

Book Review ๐ฅง The Sweetness of Forgetting By Kristin Harmel โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ /5 I just love Kristin Harmelโs books so much! In the authorโs note for this one, she explains that it was her first departure from contemporary/womenโs fiction into the world of historical fiction. As someone whoโs read a lot of her more recent books, I think the bridge between those two genres was very noticeable in this story, especially with its dual timelines. I think I loved this book even more because of the way the two worked together! The Sweetness of Forgetting is told in two different timelines. In modern day, Hope is a single mother living in Cape Cod and struggling to maintain her familyโs bakery. Her grandmother, Rose, has Alzheimerโs. In a rare moment of clarity, Rose gives Hope a list of names, leading her to Paris and the story that Mamie has kept hidden about her family during WW2. As Hope uncovers Mamieโs story, we also get glimpses into Roseโs past from her own perspective in the 1940s. First and foremost - You will want baked goods literally the entire time you read this novel. Youโve been warned! The descriptions of the bakery and food itself were beautiful! I loved the dual timelines and how we uncovered little bits and pieces of Roseโs story until the full picture was revealed at the end. The way this book talked about religion, especially in the World War II context, was very interesting and gave a unique perspective, which I loved. I also really enjoyed the look at motherhood and family through Hopeโs relationship with her own daughter and Roseโs relationships over the course of her life. The ending of this book was so bittersweet, but wrapped up the story in a very satisfying way. Overall, I really enjoyed this one! It didnโt eclipse my current favorites of Kristin Harmelโs, but it was another really solid WW2 historical fiction novel from her for sure. Have you read any of Kristin Harmelโs books? My favorite still has to be The Book of Lost Names! I think The Room on Rue Amelie is up next for me!

Is your office cheating on you? Haha, this was a funnnn read! Something fresh and out of the box. Imagine a corporate setup, except there are no humans, but animals working as employees. Angry Jungle Bosses is a satirical comedy set around the corporate setup in India. Apparently, COVID knocked out all human beings and now animals are supposed to be up and working, running the world. This sets the base of the story. And our dear protagonist here is Mr. Fox, whose biggest nightmare is working under someone. He joins a new company and finds everything suspicious, right from day one. The story was very entertaining and creative. B mails instead of Gmails, stationary that talks back to you and whatnot. How did the author even think of all this! I would have loved some illustrations in this. Maybe the office talk could have been chopped off a bit, it wasnโt very appealing to me, a non-corporate girlie. But the rest I loved ๐ซถ๐ป #allmybookreviews

The former flight attendant has really carved out a niche for herself as a go-to author for propulsive, cinematic action thrillers, with her debut FALLING captivating readers, and follow-up DROWNING (about a mother who must rescue her husband and daughter from a commercial plane that has crashed and sunk to the bottom of the ocean) making it into my TOP TEN BOOKS OF 2023.โฃ โฃ Now Newman is back with another pulse-pounder, WORST CASE SCENARIO, which is earning comps to INDEPENDENCE DAY, WAR OF THE WORLDS, and CHERNOBYL. The book -about a commercial airliner crashing into a nuclear power plant- is basically Jordy-engineered nightmare fuel: a combination of my fear of flying mixed with my newfound fear of all things nuclear war. Book review, Nevermore Bookstore by Kerrigan Byrne (Romance): Based on the title alone, I thought this book would have a fantasy aspect to it. It does not. The story has quirky characters in a small town. Cady runs her recently deceased auntโs bookstore, but it is not doing well financially. In addition to stressing about the business, Cady also has a debilitating physical disease that keeps her from moving around as freely as sheโd like. The one thing that she looks forward to each week is a Thursday night call from a man called Fox who orders expensive books and keeps her on the phone for hours while they talk. When someone breaks into the shop while she is on the phone, Fox talks her through the panic. She wants to meet, but he has issues of his own that leave him isolated. โ๏ธโ๏ธ the unhoneymooners - review ๐๏ธ Guys, guys, guys! You know when a book just gives you that five star feeling and you just had such a good time reading it - this was it for me! It was actually my @_amysbookclub pick of the month and Iโm so happy we picked it! The Unhoneymooners has to be one of the funniest books Iโve ever read, I was giggling like a love drunk hyena the entire way through and I just loved Ethan and Olive so much. Their flanter was unmatched and Ethan is my favourite kind of MC. It was fun, it was flirty and I couldnโt get enough of it. This was marketed as enemies to lovers but letโs be real, our couple didnโt even hate each other. It was more miscommunication to lovers than anything else, each of them having the impression the other didnโt like them - and oh god they couldnโt have been any more wrong! I loved as that forced proximity took over and our couple actually communicated with each other, and that sizzling chemistry couldnโt keep them apart in the end Letโs not even talk about the fake dating WITH A TWIST! You know I go feral for a fake dating trope, it had me kicking and screaming like a mad woman, but this was some genius kind of fake marriage set up and OMGGGG when I tell you I lapped it up Iโm not even joking. This is a perfect summer read, charming in every way and will have you swooning so hard while making you laugh out loud! The easiest 5 stars I ever did dish out! ๐๐ผ
. โ๐ผMONDAY is for MEMOIRSโ๐ผ Grief is for People by Sloan Crosely Oh, the heartbreak of losing someone you love! We will all go through it in our lives, and while the grieving process is personal, some aspects are universal and inevitable. In the end, you must work through your loss. Suicide adds a new and complicated layer to that process. I speak from experience. No one wants to accept that their loved one has made a choice--it's much easier to make peace with a natural death, an end to a full life. Even an involuntary passing, one that was out of the person's control, is less difficult. Sloan Crosely, whose humorous writing I have long been a fan of, does an admirable job here of capturing the pure heart-wrench of losing her best friend to suicide. Her sardonic voice is still present as she takes on this exponentially more challenging topic in this grief memoir, which is slim but packs a big punch. Crosley succeeds in bringing her beloved Russell to life in its pages--Russell in all his vivid, beautiful glory, as she knew him. Her journey of grief is all the more intriguing as she intertwines it, surprisingly, with another unexpected and disturbing event in her life: someone breaks into her apartment and steals her jewelry. She becomes desperately obsessed with the theft and tracking down her purloined rings and necklaces; solving this mystery (which shockingly, she partially does!) becomes a sort of metaphor for processing her loss. Ultimately, the book title's meaning becomes clear: grief is for people, of course, and not things. Fascinating and genuine, I recommend this one. Crosely generously paints a picture of her beloved friend, warts and all, that makes us fall in love with him right alongside her. I invite you to share something you loved about someone you loved who's no longer with us. My best friend's husband Jeff was unfailingly kind and big-hearted. He always had several pints of ice cream waiting for me in the freezer when I visited, knowing it was one of my favorite things. ๐ (*if you are lucky enough to not have lost a loved one yet, share what you love about someone still with us!) ยฐToday's giveaway hint in storiesยฐ

Not pictured. Dogs, donuts, my teenagers( depending on the day) guacamole, tacos, sushi, corona, pumpkins, fainting goats, Coffee, summer, pool days, Disneyโฆ The New couple in 5B was a great mix up of ghost story meets psychological thriller. I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed it. There was a hint of gothic vibes and some interesting religious cult elements thrown in as a small backstory. As with most thrillers itโs hard to like most characters. However The doorman really irked me in this one. The narrator did a great job making his part condescending to the point I was like โ god can this dude just dieโ. He was the worst! I was ok making him just another body lost to the old apartment building. Letโs chat about our MC. Poor Rosie, that girl was just so damn naive. As nice as she was she was so overly invested in her husband that she couldnโt see the light of day. Sorry hunny but your husband was text book. Overall this was an entertaining read with a satisfying ending. I damn near clapped! The biggest take away from this one is: You never really know the people you love. And humans are the real monsters in this ghost story.

Iโm not going to give an in depth review because itโs hard for me to do with this book for some reason, especially without giving any spoilers. I want everyone to see for themselves and come back with their thoughts on how they feel about this one. - NOW the winning question, would I recommend this if youโre a fan of SA Cosby?โฆ short answer, yes. - Where we may look for authors similar to our favorites, we also have to keep in mind that this is an artistry where these authors and writers take time to build their craft and develop their specific style. - Doing this as a group read was necessary because we were able to talk about how he felt as we read and this book requires dialogue otherwise youโll be pissed. Loved the group read interactions๐ซถ๐พ - But I will say๐ซฃI wish he didnโt leave us with a cliff hanger๐ญ with this being his first novel, he left us with our minds to wander about certain things and characters and some additional frustrations but again I donโt want to spoil it. - ๐คDo books with cliffhangers drastically affect your overall review? โข โข โข #minibookreview #bookrec #booksuggestions #bookreview #booksbyblackauthors #bookstagram #blackbookstagram #blackauthors

Jaded by Ela Lee - A book truly worthy of all the commotion it's been getting. My thoughts ๐ญ First things first, I was inspired to read this by @thepagesofpoppy and she's now written a stunning review which I recommend checking out! ๐ซถ๐ป Jaded follows Ceyda (or Jade as she's also known as "Jade is my Starbucks name because all children of immigrants have them.") Born & raised in London with big hopes and dreams, she's just started working at a prestigious law firm and is excited to embark on building a successful life for herself with her boyfriend, her university sweetheart, Kit. As the daughter of immigrants (her father Turkish, her mother Korean), her work ethic is everything. Life is on the up it seems, that is, until she is r* by a colleague one night at a work party, and the world she thought she knew and felt safe in comes crashing down. This book handles and sparks conversation on so many important topics: The ways in which immigrants and their children are expected to hide or shrink parts of themselves to fit in, how cultural and generational barriers make it difficult for some children to confide in their parents, cultural insensitivities and casual racism, hustle culture and the cut throat corporate world, classism, the trauma SA survivors face and the odds stacked against them in seeing real justice. One discussion point which stood out to me, and which becomes prevalent towards the end in a shock twist, is how men fail to hold each other to account and how much of a betrayal this is for the women in their lives who love them. I think all women can relate to feeling frustrated by this. How can some men who think of themselves as good guys, as decent and progressive, still maintain close relations with other men who behave so awfully. How can they not hold them to account? The uncomfortable truth is that these men fear ridicule from other men more than they respect women and this book portrays this so accurately and the pain this inflicts on women. I think this is a book all women and especially young women should read. I know parts of it would have spoken to me so much in my early 20's. I was so proud of Ceyda by the end. ๐ซถ๐ป

(((they way i actually have felt this about my husband so many times๐ฅน๐ซถ๐ป))) ๐๏ธ THIS BOOK WAS BEAUTIFUL AND WONDERFUL AND INCREDIBLY SPECTACULAR. It has such a beautiful way of depicting grief and as someone who has experienced such intense grief in the past months I felt like this book found me at the right place and right time. This story is going to stick to me for a long while. ๐ I had no idea what I was getting into when I started this book, I was expecting something fluffy and cute ((which I absolutely love)) but I got something a lot deeper. The characters feel so real and raw to me, dealing with real life problems and emotions. I felt so connected to them.
