I thought it was grief. I had just lost my Papa and I was devastated. Then I thought, maybe it’s a flare? That can’t be right. I was told when they removed my colon that’s I’d be cured. That wasn’t accurate. Then less than 2 months later I was driving home from work and lost control of my bowels. I was mortified. The more I cried, the worse it got. I had no idea I’d probably never regain control of them. I spent the next 2 years pooping my pants. I had no control and it happened a lot. I stopped going out. I essentially got fired, although they gave me a better excuse than bc of my medical issues. I spent entire days just sitting on a toilet because that was easier than running back and forth. I contemplated ending it. What kind of life can you have when you live in the bathroom? 18 years later and my heart still breaks thinking about those 2 years. Writing this brought tears to my eyes. But guess what? I’m still standing. I never gave up. What I have to do everyday is a challenge to say the least. It’s quite frankly exhausting and legitimately sucks the life out of me. #poopstraw But at least I don’t live in the bathroom anymore. With the catheter and dilator and medical suppositories I do ok. Scratch that, I thrive because I’ve decided to not let it break me. Life has a way of trying to break you. Don’t let it. Trust that you can handle whatever shit gets thrown at you. Know that you are not alone and others probably feel the same, they just suffer in silence.
