로켓리뷰 4월 4주차 🤔로켓리뷰란 무엇인가?🤔 - 매주 금요일 발매되는 음반들을 최대한 빠르게 리뷰하는 콘텐츠입니다. 최대한 금요일 또는 주말 안에 올리도록 노력해보겠습니다. - 1회차~2회차만 듣고 리뷰하는거라 심층적인 리뷰는 추후에 할 수도 있습니다. - 주관적인 리뷰입니다. - 금요일이 아닌 요일에 발매된 음반들도 금요일 또는 주말에 모아서 리뷰합니다. -1~4점 : 비추천, 5점 : 한 번 들을만해요, 6~7점 : 추천, 8~9점 : 강추, 10점 : 인생앨범 ⭐️QM - 개미⭐️ 올해 정규앨범을 내겠다고 약속했던 QM이 4집 개미로 돌아왔습니다. 이번주에 가장 많이 들었던 앨범이 아닌가 싶은데요. 길이도 짧고 강렬한 사운드들이 집합되어 있어 손이 자주 가더군요. 아무튼 작품에 대해서 이야기를 조금 해보자면, 이전보다 좀 더 다양한 사운드를 시도했습니다. 자주 보이지 않았던 트랩으로 앨범을 시작하고 뒤쪽에는 쿤디판다의 [송정멘션]이 생각나는 듯한 트랙도 존재했습니다. 이전, 붐뱁을 주로 다루던 그의 모습과는 상반된 모습을 보이지만 그의 타이트한 랩은 여전히 장점으로 작용해주어 신선한 느낌을 받았습니다. 피처링은 꽤나 많은 편이지만 저번 앨범에서 보다 더 유기적으로 잘 섞여 들어간 느낌이 들었고, 딱 ‘피처링’ 정도의 느낌이 들며 곡에 루즈함을 덜어주는 역할로 적재적소에 들어갔다고 보여집니다. 전체적으로 봤을 때, 올해 들었던 국힙 앨범 중에서 가장 좋았던 것 같네요. ⭐️Bladee - Cold Visions⭐️ 드레인갱의 허슬러 Bladee가 깜짝 앨범으로 돌아왔습니다. 이 앨범 이전에 냈던 Yung Lean과의 합작 앨범에서 너무 뻔한 사운드로 드레인 갱만의 특색을 살려내지 못하였다고 혹평을 했었는데, 이 앨범은 최근 유행에 편승하면서도 그의 특색을 살려내며 다시금 드레인 갱의 존재감을 드러내는 앨범이였습니다. 뱅어 다음 뱅어 다음 뱅어라서 처음 앨범 단위로 흘려들었을 떄는 큰 감흥이 없었지만 곡 단위로 뜯어서 들어보니 좋은 곡이 많이 포진해 있었습니다. 레이지를 기반으로한 클라우드랩이란 시도 자체가 신선하여 정말 좋았던 것도 있고, 그런 시도가 성공적으로 돌아갔다는 점에도도 정말 좋았습니다. 올해 나오는 레이지 앨범들은 다들 신선하고 좋은 것 같네요. (Shout out to YEAT) ⭐️Maruja - Connla’s Well⭐️ 윈드밀씬에서 떠오르고 있는 신예, Maruja의 신보가 나왔습니다. 아직까지 제대로된 앨범은 두개밖에 내지 않았는데 벌써부터 이렇게 강렬한 색깔을 가져가는 것이 대단해보입니다. 같은 윈드밀 씬에서 BCNR이 주로 가져가고 있는 Post Punk와 Post Rock 장르를 주로하는데, BCNR과는 또 다른 색깔로 이 장르를 해석하는 것이 정말 매력적입니다. 앨범 커버만 보셔도 느낌이 오시겠습니다만, BCNR 보다는 조금 더 무겁고 진중한 느낌이 듭니다. 이런 비유가 맞을지는 모르겠지만 Godspeed You Black Emperor!나 Swans가 추구했던 묵직한 포스크락 사운드가 들리는 듯 합니다. 이러한 장르에 관심이 있고 좋아하시는 분들이 계신다면 한 번씩 들어보시는 걸 추천드립니다. PARTYNEXTDOOR - PARTYNEXTDOOR 4 (P4) 딱히 기대는 안 했습니다만, 생각보다도 더 뭐가 없었습니다. 그냥 드레이크 사단이 추구하는 음악, 이지리스닝으로 가볍게 틀어놓기 좋은 음악, 딱 그정도의 앨범입니다. 솔직히 자기자신도 곡들을 구분할 수 있는지가 의문이 듭니다. ⭐️St. Vincent - All Born Screaming⭐️ 선공개곡들이 좋았어서 기대를 많이하고 있었던 St.Vincent의 신보가 나왔습니다. 저번 앨범인 Daddy’s Home으로 St. Vincent에 처음 입문하게 되어 좋은 인상이 있었는데, 개인적으로는 그 때보다도 더 좋은 앨범을 가져와 준 것 같습니다.(인더스트리얼스러운 사운드를 더 좋아하는 탓일 가능성이 높음.) 세인트 빈센트가 추구하는 아트락 사운드는 그대로 둔 채, 소울 느낌은 조금 빼고 인더스트리얼함을 가미하여 기존의 세인트 빈센트의 사운드를 더 강렬하고도 고급진 느낌의 사운드로 승화시킨 앨범입니다. 이 앨범에 대해서는 그렇게 길게 이야기 하지 않겠습니다. 이정도 설명이면 충분하다고 판단하고 여러분이 들어보시는 걸 추천드립니다. All Born Screaming 🔥 St. Vincent Indie Exclusive Red LP // 2024 (EU) ——— I was tempted to keep this review simple by writing “album of the year” and call it a day, but then again ‘All Born Screaming’, St. Vincent’s 7th studio album, is something that’s absolutely worth talking about. Following a series of collaborations with Jack Antonoff, ‘All Born Screaming’ is Annie Clark’s debut as a sole producer, which is a most welcome change that truly allowed her to experiment freely and fearlessly. This unfiltered quality radiates through the entire record, and results in a gritty and gutsy body of work that is undoubtedly the best St. Vincent album to date. Bowie, Talking Heads, Metallica, and Nine Inch Nails are just a few of the whirlwind of influences on the record, which is audibly beaming with love for music and making music, whether in the form of Clark’s guitar virtuosity or vocal performance. While recounting cruel and dark imagery, a recurring sentiment of the album is how the end of something is also the beginning of something, how destruction and misery may lead to something new or valuable - even if it’s just the sheer feeling of living, essentially making the journey worth it. It’s a message that aligns brilliantly with the striking cover art that may depict St. Vincent either being destructed or being re-born from the ashes; a duality that’s further echoed in the title. My nights have felt like novels as of late. Even when I get the dates wrong. Evenings on porches when I should be in bed, food from people who want to share where they’re from. Adventure exists on the corner of attendance and the word “yes.” I wound up at a taco truck until midnight on a Wednesday. Ive learned when a beautiful woman offers you a cigarette, you accept, even if you’re not a smoker. My phone has died and I have gotten lost in the city more times this week than in my whole life and I couldn’t be happier. The passion that people have for life, when you give them the space to show it creates a domino effect of serendipity. My wish for the world is to let that flow, to show that side of yourself and to let others show it too. Dance in the dive bar let your battery run out look at the moon when she points it out let your tank go empty tell everyone you love how you feel. The power you have is important to note, recognize and embrace. I’ve paid a lot of money to doctors for them to give me permission to “lean into it.” I was denied that right at some point so, leaning into it now, is very important. And I am better for it.
