Failures are integral to our development. It’s within the valleys that you ascend towards new peaks. The failures I’ve encountered throughout my journey, from school to both personal and professional endeavors, have served as guiding lights, directing me toward brighter days. Despite moments when I felt like giving up and resigning to failure as my fate, the profound lessons I gained motivated me to try again. Sometimes, all it takes is that willingness to persist to propel forward in life. #EmbraceFailure #LearnAndGrow #LifeValleys #PeakMoments #PersonalGrowth #sunilmountaineer #LifeLessons #Resilience #PersistencePaysOff #NeverGiveUp #PersonalGrowth

Believe in your dream, internalize it, and let it become a part of you. When you do this, your journey will seem to flow effortlessly. You won’t rely on external motivation because things will align, and the right people will come into your life. Focus on the necessary work and let your dream take shape. My training standards are rigorous. I prepare myself and others for the most challenging situations. This approach is essential because mountains are indifferent to who you are and can present the harshest conditions. It’s better to train for the worst and hope for the best. My mentors @lakpa_mountaineering and @tsering_pemba_sherpa taught me that the best way to honor the mountains is through thorough preparation, climbing independently without relying solely on a guide, and respecting the journey. #RigorousTraining #PrepareForTheWorst #MountainSafety #AdventureReady #ExpectTheBest #OutdoorSkills #TrekkingLife #sunilmountaineer

Knee pain used to be my companion during my runs and it would get worse beyond a KM. It was in early 2019, during a casual run in Sydney, a man followed me and told me everything about the wrong style and technique of my run. The next day running 30 minutes alongside him made me unlearn, made me understand cadence and the learning process started. A mentor came to me when I was ready. It involved plenty of trial and error, moments of frustration, and the process of unlearning and relearning techniques. How has been my professional journey? In the initial five years of my career, my focus was not on pursuing money or prestigious companies. You can see the summit a few hundred meters away, yet the weather is deteriorating rapidly, forcing a critical decision. Would you push forward or retreat? It’s easy to sit down and say “retreat” but very difficult to take this decision because there is lot in stake and most of the times the tendency is to push forward and get into problems. My initial climbing venture felt like pure torture. Despite being in good physical and mental shape, I struggled and dragged myself upward, fueled by strong emotions and brewing anger. In high-altitude mountaineering, the line between bravery and stupidity is razor thin. To explain this, imagine that external situations on the mountain has gone terrible and you choose to persevere another day reflects bravery. However if you say, the situation is very bad, risky and I’m not feeling good, but let me still give it a try… that’s stupidity. I frequently grapple with self-doubt, and despite trying positive affirmations, they haven’t been effective for me. Instead, my approach is to acknowledge and allow the doubts to linger for a couple of days. During this time, I delve into the specifics of what’s causing the doubts. For instance, if I’m doubting my performance at work, I ask myself straightforward questions: what am I lacking, and what actions can I take to address it? This process often leads to finding concrete answers if the doubts are valid. If not, I simply let the doubt exist, and it usually dissipates within a few days. The trauma of being chased by a dog during my childhood had deep fears about pets. I would not even step into a house that had a pet. I overcame this fear after 32 years when Muffin entered our lives in 2012. Though I couldn’t be with him much during his early years, I grew deeply attached to him in his final years, learning the true meaning of unconditional love. While we often speak of loving unconditionally as humans, I realized it’s not easy to embody. Muffin passed away in June 2023. In July of the same year, Cookie and Whiskey became part of our family, and I’ve cherished every moment spent with them, witnessing their growth, energy, and mischief. However, my mentor, Lakpa, made the tough call to quit, and I descended to Camp-2, later evacuated to Kathmandu due to a Stage-3 frostbite, narrowly saving my nose. Three key takeaways: 1. Mountains demand rational decisions in harsh situations, detaching from emotions. 2. Always heed your expedition leader; they possess invaluable knowledge. 3. Tailor your training for each unique mountain, recognizing the distinct challenges they present. 4. Your last successful climb doesn’t mean anything. Overconfidence should be left behind. #mountains #frostbite #climbing #rescue #climbinglife #challenges #beingrational #sunilmountaineer #emotion #harddecisions

My first ascent was Lobuche East, where the breathtaking 6000-meter views captivated me. Captured by my mentor @lakpa_mountaineering, these photos not only showcase the climb but also reflect the photography skills he imparted. Thrilled to revisit this peak in April 2024, I'll be leading a group on their first 6000-meter endeavor. The transformation from a novice in 2021 to a leader in 2024 has been an incredible journey. #climbing #lobucheeast #lobuche #mountains #himalayas #nepal #climbing #climbinglife #sunilmountaineer #photography #landscapephotography #shotoniphone

In the pursuit of our loftiest dreams, the label of selfishness often accompanies our journey. Nevertheless, this characterization is acceptable, as we acknowledge our imperfections and understand that aspiring for greatness may require prioritizing personal goals. Embracing the fact that we are not saints allows us to navigate the path to our ambitions with a realistic understanding of the sacrifices involved. #selfish #mindset #attitude #belief #goals #dreams #sunilmountaineer #motivation #inspire

No juggling act here, just focused priorities. I don't balance; I prioritize time. Staying fit, doing my part as a family man, a full-time job to make my living, a runner, ultra-distance cyclist, a passionate climber. These are my needs and I have sufficient time. #FocusedPriorities #NoJugglingZone #time #prioritizetime #family #workingprofessionals #runner #climber #randonneur #sunilmountaineer

It took me eleven years to achieve my dream of reaching the summit of Everest. Despite numerous challenges, I stayed positive. The journey seemed endless as time passed, but my patience endured. Intense training tempted me to quit, yet I held onto perseverance. #goals #dreams #everest #attitude #mindset #positivity #patience #perseverence #sunilmountaineer

People share diverse opinions, and I swiftly acknowledge them before letting go. Yet, my focus intensifies when I listen to those who've achieved my desired destination, those who've faced repeated failures but persisted, and my own instincts. Choosing growth involves discerning when to hear and when to truly listen. #motivation #motivationalquotes #inspiration #growthmindset #listening #sunilmountaineer

I grew up being shy, an introvert, carrying the burden of low self-esteem and couldn’t socialise. I wanted to be left alone and that’s what made me dream. I realised in my early 30’s that I had 2 options: 1. Continue to complain about who I was and wanting to be someone else. Or 2. Chase my dreams and craft my own destiny. I choose the second option. I’m still an introvert, can’t socialise and like to be alone. But I have pursued my biggest dreams and made them a reality. #kids #adhd #parenting #growth #growthmindset #bigdreams #sunilmountaineer #introvert #introvertproblems #aloneness

I relish each ascent, transforming them into unforgettable experiences. The moments I capture hold a unique significance. I dedicate hours to crafting a 30-second 360° video, carefully selecting music to convey the emotions I felt during those moments. And I learnt a lot about Mountain photography from @eliasaikaly @luisa.ramz @lakpa_mountaineering @pemba_explorer1999 @mingma_8611m @tsering_pemba_sherpa @dawalamasherwa Thank You folks. #photograph #photographer #videos #landscapes #sunilmountaineer #insta360 #iphonephotography #natgeolandscape

In 1980, my grandfather gifted me with a Hero VIP bicycle. Despite my love for cycling, parental restrictions confined me to the area near our home. Dreams of exploring distant places on my own lingered, but remained unrealized. By the time I completed school in 1989, my cycling enthusiasm waned due to these limitations. In April 2021, after 32 years, a revitalization occurred as I embraced cycling once again, this time with newfound passion. Introduced to @bangalorerandonneurs by a friend, my journey since then has been a rediscovery of my childhood joy. Now, I embark on lengthy rides, explore new locales, relish solitary hours, and engage in mental battles during ultra rides. The path ahead holds exciting possibilities. #cycling #passion #bangalorerandonneurs #cyclinglife #sunilmountaineer
