Anybody who is like what is that, these were versions send out to radio djs, music journalists and the like. These companies would send them out for Rough Trade, so the main ones in the UK for the Smiths are “Appearing, Scott Piering” manager of The Smiths, “Beer Davies” & “Ferret & Spanner”. Also a less common one “Rush Releases”, which you find most commonly with the Barbarism Promo Release, but I have also managed to find press releases for Ask & Bigmouth in the past. Yoothas image was used for the release of ‘Ask’ in 🇬🇧 🇳🇱 🇵🇹 🇺🇸 🇨🇦 🇪🇸 🇮🇹 🇸🇪 🇮🇪. ORIGIN: ❤️🤍❤️ The Smiths - Sheila Take A Bow Cover Star 🌟 Candy Darling 🎥 Still from the film “Women in Revolt!” From 1971 Directed & Written by Paul Morrissey, Produced by Andy Warhol and music by John Cale (Velvet Underground). Candy Darling born 1944 was an American Transgender Actress best known as a Warhol Supserstar. Candy also starred in Andy Warhols film “Flesh” from 1968, which is where the debut cover of The Smiths was taken from. Candy Darling passed way in March 1974 aged 29. She inspired so very famous songs. “Candy Says” on the Velvet Underground’s Self-Titled Album & “Walk On The Wild Side” by Lou Reed devoted to Darling. Sheila Take A Bow, the song was released 13th April 1987, and of course is a nod to the playwright Shelagh Delaney. Sheila Take A Bow was released in 🇬🇧 🇩🇪 🇸🇪 🇬🇷 🇦🇺 🇮🇪 . It reached Number 10 on the charts and the song was included on the compilation album ‘Louder Than Bombs’. From the pictures, you can see the various sleeves alterations, 🇬🇧 UK sleeve was Red, 🇩🇪 German was Pinkish & of course the iconic 🇩🇪 German Blue sleeve also. In the final slide there is a proof sleeve for various different colour options.

Good morning my beautiful friends Have you missed me? Apologies I’ve not been around for the last few months. I needed one of my little breaks away from doing this and I initially thought a few weeks in the new year would be good but it ended up at 4 months lol 😂 However I am back, I’ve got a number of songs ready to go and am recording more as we speak. So things have settled down in my life. Settled into the new role at work better, means I’m working much more interesting trains these days and going all over the country. I’ve decided to get off by bottom and sort my weight out plus i git a hair cut lol. Family is well and I’m looking forward to the summer. For the first proper break away this year (not the little jaunt in January) we went back to #Mablethorpe in Lincolnshire again. Spent the best part of a week up there including my wife’s birthday so I’ve got a couple of videos of pics and footage from that then a new experiment to see if that works and of course I’ll do some performance videos too. This weeks song is a 80’s classic by Mancunian band #TheSmiths - it’s called #ThereIsALightThatNeverGoesOut - I’m a huge admirer of #JohnnyMarr the guitarist and co-writer in the band and have loved this song since I was a kid. ORIGIN: 💚🤍💚 The Smiths - I Started Something I Couldn’t Finish Cover Star 🌟 Avril Angers from the 1966 Film “The Family Way” “Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before” was originally planned as the 2nd single of the album but was banned by the BBC for references to mass murder after the Hungerford Massacre. ‘I Started Something I Couldn’t Finish’ Released in November 1987, it reached number 23 in the UK Singles Chart, a relative commercial underachievement. It was the first single released after the band had announced their split. The British 7” and 12” vinyls contain the etching: “MURDER AT THE WOOL HALL”(X)STARRING SHERIDAN WHITESIDE / YOU ARE BELIEVING, YOU DO NOT WANT TO SLEEP. The Wool Hall was the recording studio in Bath where the Smiths had recorded their last album Strangeways, Here We Come, but it also was where Morrissey, at the time of this single’s release, was recording his first solo album Viva Hate. One of Morrissey’s pseudonyms, Sheridan Whiteside is the title role in the play The Man Who Came to Dinner. The B-side etching is a reversal of “You are sleeping, you do not want to believe”, a sample heard at the end of the Smiths song “Rubber Ring”. “Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before” also uses an image from the same film “The Family Way”. Stop Me would go to be released in 🇳🇱 🇦🇺 🇩🇪 🇺🇸 🇨🇦. The 3rd picture along, is the original proof sleeve design for Stop Me UK release. “I Started Something I Couldn’t Finish” was released in 🇬🇧 🇮🇪 🇵🇹 🇪🇸.

ORIGIN: 💜🤍💜 The Smiths - How Soon is Now? Cover Star 🌟 Sean Barrett from a Still of the film Dunkirk (1958) “How Soon Is Now?” written by Moz and Marr. Originally a B-side of the 1984 single “William, It Was Really Nothing”, “How Soon Is Now?” was subsequently featured on the compilation album Hatful of Hollow and on US, Canadian, Australian, and Warner UK editions of Meat Is Murder. Belatedly released as a single in the UK in 1985, it reached No. 24 on the UK Singles Chart. When re-released in 1992, it reached No. 16. The single’s cover art was a still from the film Dunkirk (1958) featuring British actor Sean Barrett, praying but looking sufficiently as though he was holding his crotch to have the sleeve banned in the United States, where a photograph of the band backstage at the 1984 Glastonbury Festival, which had previously appeared on the gatefold inside the Hatful of Hollow compilation, was used instead. Morrissey called it “an abhorrent sleeve – and given the time and the dedication that we put into the sleeves and artwork, it was tearful when we finally saw the record...” I also would like to say, the origin idea wasn’t an original one of mine. The Smiths / Morrissey Rarities page an old instagram page, did a great job of going through the titles one by one. But sadly that page is no longer, so I thought I’d do a few videos and posts so people could see it again😁🙌🏼.
