It was little wonder in her teens she became a magnet as a photographers model, before finding initial fame when Billy Rose cast her in his “Aquacade”, along with Johnny Weissmuller. • Hollywood followed in 1944, when she made her debut as a model in “Lady in the Dark” (1944), starring Ginger Rogers and Ray Milland. • Born and raised in San Francisco and Santa Barbara, California, as well as in Tucson, Arizona, during her school years she was already turning heads and subsequently appeared in several pageants. Following her stint with Billy Rose, she joined Earl Carroll’s vanities, appearing in various revues including “Something to Shout About” and “Star Spangled Glamour”. • In 1943, she was signed to MGM with parts “Thousands Cheer” (1943), with Red Skelton and Kathryn Grayson; “Two Girls and a Sailor”, “Meet the People”, and “The Thin Man Goes Home” (all 1944). Dorothy left MGM in 1945 to hone her talents further at the Actors’ Lab, the West Coast version of New York City’s Group Theater.
