🐍 Snakes have always been a symbol of feminine strength, fertility and creative life force. As snakes shed their skin through sloughing, they are symbols of rebirth, transformation, immortality, and healing. These beautiful creatures but were appropriated by western Christian culture to be a sign of shame of the feminine thanks to biblical stories. As I have been exposed to more Indigenous storytelling through my work as a caretaker of the natural world, I realized that these beautiful creatures are important keystone species that signal to us that we've gathered enough (by rattling) so we stay sustainable in our resource consumption, leaving enough for others to enjoy. In my day job I help to protect these snakes so these have become a recurring theme in my art practice. Thrilled to officially announce that I’ve just been awarded with a creation grant by @ontarioartscouncil by the @ongov to continue my explorations in themes related to motherhood, identity and loss of ecosystem habitat. I’ve been busy making chains in ceramic, printing and exploring by trusting in my intuition. This grant is such an honour and offers be some freedom to work from the heart, hoping to connect with others authentically.
