We visited the birthplace of Colonel Tom Parker in Breda, The Netherlands. There is not much left of it these days. The house where he was born is a store now. This sign is placed at the back of the house on a wall surrounding the yard. It’s in Dutch but this is what it says: “This is where Adreas (Dries) van Kuijk was born on 26 June 1909. He grew up in Breda and immigrated as a 19 year old to America. Dries changed his name there to Colonel Tomas A. Parker. and became worldwide famous as the manager of Elvis Presley. He never came back to Breda and died in 1997 at 87 years old in Las Vegas.” I live an hour away from this place, in Holland. I love how my little country somehow is connected to Elvis. Elvis was in a tough spot on the flight out, and the plane had to emergency land in Dallas because he was struggling to breathe. Red West and Charlie Hodge were really worried as he couldn’t catch his breath despite resting up at a motel nearby. The pills he had been taking seemed to have worn off. Opening night was a disaster with a harsh critic review criticizing him as overweight, lacking stamina, and having poor vocal projection. The show had lengthy interruptions by various troupe members, and Elvis’ performance included awkward karate moves and questionable costume choices. Despite having devoted fans, concerns grew over his health as he struggled on stage. He playfully collected song requests but showed signs of physical and mental fatigue. He even left the stage mid-show on the second night and hesitated to perform on the third, but was persuaded by the Colonel. ✨️ Remembering Tom Parker ✨️ Two years ago today, the world lost Tom Parker to glioblastoma at only 34 years old. Mere months after losing Sarah Harding, I lost a second of my pop star heroes. Tom was my boyband crush and it's all thanks to the Lose My Mind video. 17 year old me went straight to HMV to buy the Tom Edition of The Wanteds debut album. I fancied him so much 😂 I was never massively into boybands but The Wanted were a bit different and I LOVED that. I absolutely loved their albums, espeically Word of Mouth. When I saw them live in Belfast March 2014, most of the pictures I took, attached here, were of King Tom 🤴 @being_kelsey I don't know if you'll see this but I'm sending you so much love. My mum bought me your book for Christmas and it was a beautiful, frank, honest and raw read. I'm sure he's SO proud of you. #Neurodiversity in #Sanditon While I headcanon several Sanditon characters as neurodivergent, today I'm going to focus on the man who's the driving force behind Sanditon itself, Mr. Thomas Parker. I know a lot of people despise Tom for various reasons, but I personally headcanon Tom as having ADHD, and here's why: 1. He is very disorganized. We all know what his study looks like. 2. He's constantly on the move and fidgeting. The man can't sit still if his life depended on it. 3. Though he loves Mary and his kids dearly, he's not always the best at showing it. He can often be insensitive and inattentive despite his love for them. 4. He's easily distracted, jumping from subject to subject in conversations. 5. On the other side of the coin, he's incredibly hyperfocused on Sanditon's growth and success, even when it is detrimental, like with the location of the hotel. He also overlooks details since he is too focused on the big picture of Sanditon's success. 6. Mood swings: the man has some incredibly strong emotions and ups and downs. 7. Impulsivity, poor self-control, risky behavior, and addictive tendencies: for the time period, I imagine this taking the form of recklessly driving the carriage in the pilot or his gambling and financial issues throughout the series. 8. He constantly disrupts people and talks excessively. 9. He can have a temper and gets frustrated easily. 10. He can have low self-esteem and is hypersensitive to criticism.
