Last week I paid a short but sweet revisit to the lovely city of Liverpool to catch up with friends and see @birdspotting & superb cast in the fantastic @222aghoststory ⌛️⏰️🐻👻🦊🎭 @liverpool_empire. This time visit involved NO snow OR airport delays😅 It is an interesting city to explore with lots to see and the Liverpudians are both welcoming & helpful. That's right, Lazyreviewing went the Theatre. 2:22 A Ghost Story is a stage production created by Danny Robins. New mother Jenny is convinced she's experiencing a haunting, left home alone by husband Sam who is away for work, she is going out of her mind. On Sam's return, they host a dinner party for two friends and Jenny tries to prove she's telling the truth, by getting them to experience the haunting that happens at 2:22. Maybe not the most original plot in the world but it really works well on stage. The pacing is great, I was enjoying myself through the first few scenes and then bam, real tension had built up and took me by surprise. The actors on show gave decent performances but with such well developed characters it would have been hard not to. There was numerous attempts at jumpscares which were a bit on the nose, as a fan of horror it didn't quite hit with me. However a woman behind me screamed and said "oh Ken this is the worst birthday present ever" which means it obviously was doing the trick on some people. First theatre trip of 2024…I’ve been wanting to see 2:22 A Ghost Story since it was on in the West End, I just never had a chance so I was really pleased when I heard it was going on tour and coming to @the_churchill in Bromley. I had such a lovely day and was lucky enough to meet all of the cast who were really lovely and friendly. I really enjoyed the show and thought the cast were incredible. Finding himself unwillingly entangled with the Overlord’s beautiful but spiteful daughter, Bear is forced to make decisions which may jeopardise everything he’s dreamed of - or risk the lives of the people he once lived amongst.’ You might like this if you like: 📚YA fantasy 📚Dystopian AND magic 📚A main character to really root for -Thoughts- I loved this book! I raced through it in less than 2 days because I was so invested in the world of Bear! The world-building was just right; Calleston really felt like a real place and I could see it perfectly through the description. I went in fully expecting some sort of dumb love triangle because the blurb links ‘entanglement’ and love but thankfully, that’s not what we get. Instead is a beautiful community of people who are suffering so many injustices but look after each other with such a fierce love. It’s a love story, but not in the way that you might think. (Romantsasy fans, this one is probably not for you!) There are so many characters to love (as well as hate!) but I have to say, Burna and Pearl definitely have a piece of my heart! The twists we get are… my god. Prepare yourselves. I won’t say anymore. It’s obviously intended for audiences younger than myself so it definitely reads like teen-YA fiction but honestly, it’s the kind of book I would have adored even more as a 14 year old. When Jenny starts hearing noises on the baby monitor - she believes the couples’ new home is haunted and someone is out to get their daughter. 🏠 The play takes off amidst home renovations - a form of repressed forgetting as Jenny tries to paint over the past. But as it is, the house is far from complete, just like the unfinished business which lingers within it. The star studded cast take us from a dinner party all the way until 2:22am, when a twist so shocking takes place you literally can see the whole audience inhale. Last year me and the girls were in America for our birthdays so we agreed no gifts - however when I saw 2:22 was touring I couldn't resist booking tickets for me, Becca & Jess as a surprise 👀 I'd seen the show in London when it first opened and I loved it so I wanted to see what the girls thought 💖 They both ended up loving it, with Jess giving the show 10⭐️/10⭐️ and Becca giving it 9.5⭐️/10⭐️ Watching it a second time obviously meant I know how it ends and watching it a second time knowing the secret was so interesting - it seems so obvious on a second viewing that I was sure the girls would guess but they weren't looking at it the same way I was and I'm so pleased they didn't guess 😂 I'd read beforehand that Jay McGuiness' acting was quite weak but I would say his acting actually impressed me the most - he had amazing comedic timing and I felt his character was the most believable - the girls agreed and also praised Fiona Wade as Jenny 💖 I asked them to sum up the show in three words and Becca chose captivating, meticulous and atmospheric which I couldn't agree with more 🖤 The attention to detail was incredible, something I truly appreciated on a rewatch! If you get chance to watch this show I'd absolutely recommend it - it's not a jumpscare heavy show but it keeps a creepy atmosphere throughout.
