B A N D S Resistance bands are a lightweight, convenient and versatile tool that can offer myriad benefits to your training. Unlike free weights which derive their resistance from gravity, bands integral resistance means they can be used at any angle, benefiting the #bluelightathlete where strength is often required to be expressed from challenging and awkward positions. The ability to add resistance at any angle makes bands an excellent tool for the development of the smaller muscles responsible for joint stability of the hips and shoulders, which is essential for the mitigation and rehabilitation of injury. Because of this, bands are often dismissed by those looking to build muscle or move heavy weights; however, this is a mistake. Your body only recognises stimulus, and adapts accordingly, whether that stimulus is caused by mechanical stress due to resistance from a barbell, kettlebell, band or otherwise. Bands can also be used in conjunction with compound barbell lifts to aid power development, rate of force production or address sticking points. By adding additional resistance that increases throughout the lift, you are able to make the exercise harder as you transition from the point where leverage is at its worst (i.e. the ‘hole’ position in a squat) to where it is at its best. Namely, as the bands stretch they tighten, meaning as you get into a stronger position moving the bar becomes harder rather than easier, forcing your muscles to generate force for longer and reducing the deceleration required at the top of the lift. We like to celebrate our officers and staff here at Avon and Somerset Police, but what we love even more is celebrating you, the public and one unsuspecting motorist was the difference between opening the M4 motorway during a very busy rush hour 🚘 This week, we were called to an incident on the M4 motorway after a lorry carrying hay caught fire. This incident saw the eastbound carriageway closed with more than 10 miles of traffic for more than four hours. @avonfirerescue were dealing with the incident with our support but, with limited equipment to remove the hay and pressure to open a main commuter route, time was of the essence. This is where one brilliant member of the public comes in… an officer patrolling the traffic saw a vehicle carrying a tele-loader caught within the traffic. Without hesitation the driver offered their services and drive to the incident and liaised with the fire commander. The member of the public spent close to two hours using the tele-loader to remove the hay from the trailer, which allowed the fire service the opportunity to put the fire out. He then assisted in loading the hay onto the hard shoulder which allowed crews to work safely to put out the fire and clear the carriageway 👏 🚒 👮♂️ We would like to thank the member of the public who helped us. His willingness to provide help in a time of obvious emergency helping reopen a lane of traffic, freeing hundreds, if not thousands, of cars and allowed them to continue their journey. Email this morning requesting for details for my visa application… ACRO police check for the wife which we knew was coming, stupidly I didn’t get her certificate application done and only realised at the 4 week point post visa application so paid for the premium 2 day service to get that done, it’s in the post but sadly didn’t beat immigration to it. Also requested further details to evidence our relationship so now digging through old mortgage statements, tax bills and utilities to prove we are in a real relationship, which feels weird! The offences Mr Cash is alleged to have committed are claimed to have happened between 20 January 2022 and 3 February 2023, while those against Mr Berry are alleged to have happened between 28 December 2021 and 3 February 2023.
