From military barracks to an abandoned part of the town of Tempio Pausania in northern Sardinia to an inclusive PARK FOR ALL. The park, designed according to universal design principles for genuine social inclusion and accessibility, officially opened on April 20. The finished project is the result of a very positive collaboration process between the design team and the client, the Association of Municipalities of Alta Gallura, the Municipality of Tempio Pausania and the local population through a service design workshop that kicked off and helped guide the design work. The succession of images shows the site's development over the decades up to our built project, which integrates a series of existing elements while taking into account the original grid-like military structure. The church was given a dignified exterior space within the park. The running track was transformed into a skate park. The existing sports fields were renovated for contemporary use. The remaining open space was designed for inclusive leisure, child's play and events. A refreshment stand and locker rooms are located at the center in the structure with the oval roof. What is accessibility to common people like me? You make our monuments accessible. I love that and am grateful. But you forgot to plot the path to my busstop. You forgot to make the buses accessible, or if the buses are, the busstops aren't. The metros are but the route to metro stations aren't. The e-rickshaws that offer the last mile connectivity aren't. The autos and taxis that ply on our roads aren't. How do I go to immerse in the history of these historical walks? How do I go to these beautiful parks to commune with nature? Forget these refined pleasures of life, just tell me how do I go to work. Making your workplace accessible is good business sense. But I have had corporates asking, how do we bring the disabled here, our office is far from public transportation. Add to this the fact that most public transport is inaccessible. Accessibility needs to be woven into every aspect of life. It needs to be available to that old lady who has a hospital appointment, that woman in the chawl who needs to go to sabji mandi and to women like me who can take their car to the market but not the shops.
