Did you know the most common rash we see from frustrated parents is a bright red rash between bum cheeks that mirrors the store bought wet wipe (note this can be thrush and is characterized by spots so look out for this). Wet wipes have become a huge part modern day life and it’s a real shame. Not only do they head to landfill and wreck havoc on the environment, but most contain an array of nasties (check out that list of ingredients on the packet). Fragrance free or alcohol free doesn't mean there are not other things. Opt for cloth wipes that get washed with your nappies. You will never look back once you have started cleaning a bum with these. I remember when I was left using a packet of store bought wipes - I needed at least three and got poop all over my hands. Creams were launched with single use plastics due to the high occurences of rashes caused by chemicals. It has now become a type of mainstream product where moms assume the bum needs some sort of barrier. Not with reusables! In fact creams are not all cloth safe and can damage your nappies. Avoid zinc based ones and vaseline🙏 No chemicals in cloth means little or no rashes. Using (fleece) liners in reusables (swipe👉) Liners are an important part of the cloth nappy system to make cleaning simple. You can use disposable ones however we will always encourage you to use reusable fleece liners that can be washed with your nappies. Our liners are made of fleece fabric- it does not absorb and allows the pee to pass through onto the cloth nappy. They serve two purposes. 1. To catch solids- this makes cleaning the nappy very easy. The solids are sprayed off into the toilet before the nappy is stored. 2. Because the fabric does not absorb they keep a bum dry and comfy – useful for newborns who sleep longer stretches and at night when babies wear nappies for longer. Raising children❤️ This year we will be putting more focus on our “Pokkelokkie parent time” project. Something that was strated a while ago but only touched upon. I am very passionate about raising children. I do not claim to be any sort of guru by no means. We are raising two boys who are now 8 and almost 6. We are constantly employing new tactics and strategies to navigate this crazy world of parenthood. There is no book- but so many have been written. This project aims to do only one thing. Help you create harmony in your home. Harmony amongst siblings and harmony amongst you as a family. Living daily with a constant battle of resistance, defiance and difficulty is just not fun. It can make one question why we chose this path at some points. It does not have to be an uphill battle! We want to share with you some things that have worked for us. Simple things like how to brush teeth without a fight. How to bring laughter into your home and how laughter itself can be the solution for so many of those battles. As much as we are a reusable nappy business, we are more than that. We are a group of parents who all have one thing in common - children. We all want happiness. We all want to raise confident, well mannered and socially adaptable children who will one day grow up to be someone. And we as parents, want to enjoy our children! Elskbar wants to prevent this from happening.. It's really sad when people want to make a positive change for our planet by choosing cloth diapers, but they start with cheaper, lower quality options. These products often don't work well. They might be uncomfortable and leaking, which is disappointing. I remember my first cloth diaper was a really cheap style with one microfiber insert. I tried it on my 3-year-old son for nighttime, and oh dear, it leaked so badly! So much first time user🙈 But luckily, I didn’t give up. This experience can leave people thinking all cloth diapers are like that — leaking and with a bad fit. And they might give up on them completely. It breaks my heart because their intention to do something good for the environment was existing. Choosing high-quality cloth diapers is a big step in getting a successful start. This is true not just for cloth diapers, but for many sustainable choices. Quality really matters for a better start. Taking your reusables to hospital is super easy. Tips below: 👉Pack a wetbag or even a small washing basket for the dirty nappies. Cloth nappies do not smell. Dad or partner or friend can take them home daily if need be. 👉Nappies can be stored for 2 - 3 days before washing. If someone else needs to do the first load it`s really simple- explain the wash routine of a rinse cycle then a main wash. If the person doesn't get it right its ok. It`s only one wash. 👉The Dawn patrol fitted is nice for other people to put on if needed (pictured). Most can manage this without a demonstration- very straightforward. The cover goes over this. 👉Using fleece liners in the nappy is useful initially, to catch the meconium. However meconium does not stain and washes out just fine. 👉Take your Wipey reusable cloth wipes to clean baby. Single use ones are often full of nasties and head to the bin. Shop link in bio.
