As we come to the end of #ReuseableNappyWeek, I wanted to highlight one last motivation for those of you on the fence about cloth nappies. And it's completely selfish but totally justified! It's the joy-factor 😊 Let it be said that using cloth nappies brings me joy! Yes, some of that might be tied with all of the other motivations this week, because who wouldn't want to smile when they think about saving the planet and money at the same time, or when they're admiring a cute little cloth bum waddling past them. But there is something about these colourful, snuggly little nappies that just puts a smile on my face. It was a complete surprise when I started looking into using cloth nappies that there was such a community hiding here in plain sight! The further I got into my cloth nappy journey, the more supported I felt and not just because I'd started using nappies, but because everyone was so friendly and had something kind and encouraging to say about every aspect of parenting. It's a real credit to this network of cloth bum parents that many people hang about for years, even after their children are no longer in nappies. Thanks to Covid and lockdowns, it forced us to be more open-minded about where our "village" comes from. For me (4 years into my cloth journey and I've only made an IRL cloth mum friend this past year) this community has been a source of encouragement when I've felt like I'm doing everything wrong, when I couldn't get on top of the laundry or when I just needed a little pick-me-up. I've made (hopefully) lifelong friends, and these years will be forever ingrained in my memory for all the wonderful, colourful people I've had the pleasure to "meet". T o i l e t T r a i n i n g 🚽💚 We’re in the middle of toilet training Zion atm, he’s 3 (4 in sept) and for some that will be “late” but we’ve always done it in our own time 😊 With our kids we’ve relied less on societal age norms and more on the kids showing us signs that they’re ready. In my experience it’s gone a lot smoother that way 🤞🏾. With M’kaiah we used a potty but this time around we’ve just gone straight to the toilet (with the help of a little Peppa Pig seat that he loves 🥹) I’d say we get about 99% of his 💩 on the toilet now and about 40% of his wees 🤷🏾♀️ which I don’t think is bad going! He wears pull-ups a lot of the time but if we’re going on a long journey or something we still love our pocket nappies! (He also still uses night nappies). This one is the junior size ☺️ This print is extra special as 50% of the profits are being donated to UNICEF to help support children affected by war 🫶🏾. It's a wrap! It's been a chaotic end to the month with being away from home, all of us struck down with a bad cold and Mattie with her UTI 🙃 I have been grateful for our nappies this month though, as their cheeriness has kept me sane, kept LO comfortable and helped me sniff out the UTI! Here are the most common causes of cloth nappy leaks: ⭐️Incorrect fit: The leg elastics should fit either on the leg or snugly in the crease with no gaps. (If one method doesn't work for you, try the other). Loosen the nappy if it looks too squished; this causes compression leaks as the contents get squashed out as they have nowhere to go. ⭐️Not changing frequently enough: Cloth nappies should be changed every 2-3 hours or more often if the child has frequent bowel movements. ⭐️Lack of absorption: Add more absorbency if the nappy is completely saturated within 1.5 hours. ⭐️The absorbency needs to be faster: You may need to boost with a fast-absorbing fabric on top, such as cotton or microfibre. ⭐️Overstuffing: Too many inserts can cause the nappy to gape and leak at the legs. ⭐️Compression leaks: These can occur when the insert is compressed, and the liquid seeps out. This often happens with tight clothing such as vests and tights or if the nappy has been put on too tightly. ⭐️Nappy Creams: These can build up on the nappies, preventing them from wicking fluids. C l a r i t y 🧷✨ I didn’t expect to love this as much as I do 👏🏾. I’ve tried a couple of pre flats but found them hard to boost and couldn’t get a great fit 😅 (More than likely user error). This @bellsbumz one is superrrr easy though! It has a pocket to stuff any extra absorbency and the entire inside is lined with athletic wicking jersey (always my fave) 😍. I stuffed a Bells mix insert into the pocket and then tucked the snake insert too for an extra boost! It was a surprisingly slim fit and buzzing that I didn’t have to add a liner 😆 I love flat nappies but I also love the ease of pockets so this kinda seems like a good middle ground! Today's highlight is our entry for #bearbottbookday2024 We had this beautiful Blue Moon Ai2 on and couldn't resist getting a photo with our current favourite book! "MOON" by Britta Teckentrup is so exquisitely illustrated and shows scenes from nighttime around the world. It has such a lovely rhythm, and the moon is depicted waxing and waning as it completes its full cycle of phases.
