One year ago today I found out that I was going to be a mom. I beat the odds and proved my doctors wrong. Being this boys mom has been such a huge blessing. The love I have for him is indescribable. I can't wait to see his personality come out more and more, reach milestones and develop into the man he will eventually become.

C Section Awareness month 🤍 This was a particularly difficult post for me. Having had an emergency C section, with both my children, I felt like I wanted to contribute to this month by sharing what being a C section mum has been like for me. There is so much more I haven’t touched upon yet. The aftermath of a section, recovery process and so so much more. But this is a first step in finally making peace with my delivery of both my children and being able to openly speak about what I went through, to bring my children into this world safely. @theformulamom - Does anyone have any travel coming up? I know that traveling with little ones can be overwhelming, but being prepared is key! Let’s chat about how to prepare for plane or car travel when formula feeding! Here’s what you need to pack: 🍼 Bottles - literally bring twice as many as you think you’ll need for transit. You don’t want to be washing a bottle in an airplane bathroom or at a rest stop! When schedules are off due to missed naps or an early morning flight, eating schedules may be off as well. Bring extra bottles so you can go with the flow! Traveling with a baby is a “do whatever you need to” situation. 🍼 Water - If using powdered formula and driving, bring bottles of water with you. If flying, purchase bottled water after security—again, more than you think you’ll need. Make sure to MARK THESE bottles so that any travel buddies know that this is baby’s water! We don’t want to use water that has bacteria from someone else’s mouth. 🍼 Formula - Some parents prefer to use liquid ready-to-feed formula when traveling for ease and convenience. This is fine! Just make sure to try it at home first to make sure your baby accepts it. You CAN bring more than 3oz of ready-to-feed formula on a plane as it’s considered a medical need. You can request that they NOT OPEN the formula (as breaking the seal starts the countdown of how long it’s good for). 🍼 Dish soap - Gotta clean those bottles at some point! 🍼 Sterilizer bags - These can be a great option for cleaning in a pinch if you don’t have access to a dishwasher. 🍼 Formula dispensers - If using powder, this will let you take just what you need for a day trip without taking up your whole bag. I recommend checking the big tub of formula and packing a bunch of these, pre-portioned, for the day! Any other tips or tricks that you’ve found helpful? It’s been a little over 1 month with our little Aurelia and she’s grown so much since we first brought her home. Though it’s been over a month, I can’t say we quite have a handle on things yet, as they shift every day. Becoming parents to a newborn baby has been the biggest change + learning curve in our lives. Personally, I’ve been a bit hard on myself and set expectations for myself that are unreasonable. There’s so many thoughts that course through my brain on a daily basis as a first time parent. I’m constantly googling things and chatting with fellow parents (which keeps me sane and I’m so grateful for all of you). Taking it one day at a time knowing that someday, she won’t be a tiny newborn anymore and I will miss this phase. - It’s those little fleeting moments between naps, diaper changes, feeds, bottle washing and laundry that we’ve come to enjoy our little bundle. She’s a curious one who’s always looking at everything. She’s growing, developing and learning at her own pace and that’s all we can ask for ♥️ I melt every time she grips onto my finger, as does Cameron. Baby-led-weaning Diaries: Over the last couple of months we have been introducing more and more solids into Declan’s meals. We started with only purées and has grown to absolutely LOVE his smoothie pouches from @littlespoon (he can suck one down in less than 5 minutes haha) But he needs to learn to eat actual solid foods too. So we started introducing him to things like peaches, steak, steamed carrots, etc. For the most part he’s been intrigued and had good responses! Once he got his 4 new teeth in, it was time to start testing out doing bite sized pieces. I was pleasantly surprised that he does seem to be trying to chew his food! However, I quickly discovered that although he can sort of mash it, he has zero interest in actually eating/swallowing it. He just moves the food around in his mouth until it falls out, he spits it out, or I find it later while he’s playing. One time I found a piece of bread smashed up against the roof of his mouth. The second time he had a bite sized piece of cantaloupe stashed in his cheek. 🤦🏻♀️ As we continue to transition to more solid foods/meals, I’m curious from my other mamas put there - when did your baby actually want to EAT the food? Declan is just almost 10 months old. I know it’s a learning curve, I’m just curious what you all have experienced in this department! Welcome along for the ride🙈 Sooo here’s the story, I’ve always loved running and done it on and off for years. Having previously done 2 half marathons in the past 9 years. Alongside competing in kickboxing and boxing at a pretty decent level. So much has changed now I am married, with my beautiful baby boy who made his entrance in January 2024 🩵. Going from an athletic body training twice a day most days, to being pregnant and training when my body allowed, to being forced to rest for 6 weeks post emergency C-section all the way to now. 16 weeks postpartum. My body has been through a whole heap of changes and I’m not going to lie mentally that hasn’t been easy to take and watch. I’ve struggled daily with body image but knowing I’ve grown a whole human and am now back on the running bandwagon makes me super happy and exited. I need and love running both for the mental health benefits and the physical challenges. However now I’m taking it up a notch. Working towards my 3rd half marathon knowing it’s a come back and won’t be my fastest and fittest time ever. Then the big challenge my first ever full marathon in 2025! 🏃🏽♀️🩵. So here we go, working my way back into running and pushing further whilst balancing the challenge that is being a first time mom. This time last year looked very different. We had just started our testing at the fertility clinic as a precaution understanding my autoimmune diseases. I remember my family doctor telling me that I was young and she wasn’t concerned. Needless to say, unfortunately we had things to be worried about. Fast forward to June 2023 where I was diagnosed with low ovarian reserve and a low monthly egg count. They told us we had a 2% chance of getting pregnant naturally, 6% chance with IUI and 30-35% with IVF. It was a tough pill to swallow with this news, but we moved forward with an IUI hoping for a miracle. Two IUI’s later we are extremely grateful to be pregnant with our miracle baby girl. THREE : A break from our regularly scheduled program. Names… I decided on my daughter’s name approx. 6 days before I considered I might be pregnant. Mind you we didn’t have some epic slip up where we thought “Oh shit, we might have a baby.” No. We literally did not see this coming. But this is why they tell you in Sex Ed, abstinence is the only 100% way to be safe in the streets🤣 The Sunday prior, I went the African World Festival in Detroit to see @brycethethird perform, as well as hear @asameansdoctor & @fairo_rafa talk ab health and wellness. Something that specifically struck me was when Asa spoke ab how water carries energy, therefore it is really important that we consider what we put into our bodies & the power we give to it. He talked ab setting intention for water before you drink. It just so happened that he also had some of his water on hand that was infused or something (can’t remember the term) with a couple different elements. As I read thru the list I remember seeing Copper. My ex used to carry a Copper water bottle, he told me ab the power behind it too, but the content of his message had left my mind long ago. Anyways, Copper, of all the things jumped out to me. I felt shitty this day, so before I drank the water I decided to set my intention to be “I want to feel better.” Later we passed Asa at the festival. I told him, “I drank your water, & I feel better.” I was feeling lots of things, but I couldn’t explain it then. The next day while driving back to Lansing I called Torrey excitedly, “Torrey if we had a baby, Copper Gray would make a cute ass name.” Understandably so, Torrey thought the name was a little far on the “artsy” spectrum…so I had to explain further. Copper is known to spiritually cleanse spaces. It’s one of the strongest conductors of energy, yet isn’t magnetic, or in my opinion it isn’t easily influenced. It’s warm, vibrant, and rich in color. Unlike Diamonds, Silver, Gold, Ivory, the worth of Copper cannot be argued by “man.” It’s worth is inherent. With the thought of bringing a child into this world I wanted them to know that their Momma named them with the intention of them coming here to make it better🫶🏽 Asé.
