Almost twenty years ago, our founder traveled through SE Asia, China and Mongolia with very little $ in the bank and just a backpack on her back. She rode Mongolian horses and hiked Tiger Leaping Gorge. She washed her clothes in hostel sinks till the water ran black because she could only wash them if she was staying put for a couple of days and knew they would dry in the wet heat. We really needed these underwear to stay on your bum so we designed in two features to make sure they do just that. The panels make sure that the fabric stays where it should and the leg shaped opening (yes, it really isn't just a circle) will guarantee that while you may move every direction, your underwear will not. The Thank You Series just keeps on giving! Thank you @tastybyabby for scaling the rock wall in the name of humor and underwear! Abby is a badass chef, climber, motorcyclist and all around fantastic human who answered our emergency "help! I need a climber!" call two days before we were set to shoot this scene. And then she showed up with a smile and snacks (always snacks!). Abby and Natalie know each other from working together over the past handful of years at @thepantryseattle and have always enjoyed a few laughs and some wine as we collectively made it through the insanity of the pandemic. This is Natalie casually making Abby's butt wet, which she was totally down for, and didn't even think we were crazy for asking. What a gem of human! We have been delighted with the sheer willingness of everyone who we called to help out. It is really something to see your community spring into action to help out. It's dad's day and we have a collection of humans that are in our Rad Dad Club who we are celebrating today! We had a ton of help with our video last weekend and it wouldn't have been nearly as amazing without this group of sarcastic, hilarious and supportive dads. Whether working key grips or safety patrol, @misterriha kept us moving along and made sure we ate all the protein to keep us going all day! Wait til you see the props he made for us too! Kid wrangler, zoo concierge and the lone creator of "the best day ever" for a group of unruly children, @grndglss you made it possible for us to steal Brea and make some major motion picture action happen. We couldn't have done this without you behind the scenes! We saw him just once on set as a kid actor delivery service, but Ariel's partner @colinmieling made sure that she could be fully present throughout the crazy four days of filming by taking on the brave task of solo-parenting. @delanceyseattle didn't even have to show up on set to be in support of all we are doing over at Yonderwear! Brandon graciously gave us free reign of his gorgeous farm to film a few different scenes when we had another location fall through. This guy, amiright?! And, new on the scene at the Rad Dad Club, @therealdavehull showed up to help us hang some giant underwear in the woods, start a campfire and, like good dad's everywhere, deliver us some whiskey at the end of a long day of filming. You're going to ace this parenting gig Dave! Our next incredible talent in the Thank You Series? @parchmentseattle!! You (and @tonydanza) were the most fun ever on set and we are so stoked you agreed to be our hiker for our ridiculously funny Kickstarter video! Laura is an amazing chef who Natalie knows from their years working together at @thepantryseattle. She is a magnificent person who is game for pretty much anything and knows how to roll with the punches. Our kind of person for sure! We asked Laura if she'd be up for tromping around in the woods with us and if she'd bring her dog, Tony Danza, and as always, she was totally game. Tony was the obvious star of the show - who doesn't love a corgi in a neckerchief?! It was pouring rain the day we were filming and when Laura showed up she said, "Well, looks like we'll be a little wet today." and then set off into the woods. What a champ. As a tiny startup we didn’t have the funds for a full production company to film our kickstarter video. Luckily we have some amazing people in our lives who stepped up to spend 12 hour days goofing off with us, let us spray their butts with water, film them picking wedgies and doing funny dances. This is our thank you series. First up; @breakerzee 🎥 Brea was our badass one-woman camera show. When we called her up to ask for advice on how to film this thing she was real low key about it and suggested we could rent some gear and figure it out. While ingenuity is up there in our core values, we are so so happy she agreed to come out to be our DP (director of photography, for those who haven't dipped their toes into the wide world of movie making) instead. It became instantly apparent that we would never have filmed this thing as well as Brea did. She got the vision and, since she is funny as hell, she got our humor and the video’s humor too. 🎬 We believe that life and work should not be balanced, they should be symbiotic. So we were excited to bring Brea’s 9 month old and 6 year old from New York too, along with her partner Jordan who deserves some serious kudos for being a stellar kid wrangler. It was a joy to pass a baby back and forth between shots and to hear a herd of children rambling though the forest as we filmed take after take after take. We cannot thank you enough, Brea. It's Founder Friday! That's where we tell you all about who we are and what makes us tick. Or at least what makes us want to start an underwear business. Natalie is up today! Natalie was born and raised in Crested Butte, Colorado, skiing, hiking, camping and jumping off rope swings into lakes. She has since lived and travelled all over the place, always seeking an adventure. She's a mom to two rowdy boys and never stops moving. Ever. A little goofy and the first to start a party, she thinks life is better if you're in a costume or at least keep some in your closet. Yonderwear came about because she hated her underwear while running and thought, "hey, I can fix this!" Her deep love for spreadsheets (I know, right!? Weirdo at heart.) makes her perfect for keeping us all in line and her penchant for an on-the-fly dinner party keeps us fed while we get busy designing some rad underwear. It's Ariel's turn for Founder Friday! (That's where we tell you all about who we are and what makes us tick. Or at least what makes us want to start an underwear business.) Ariel’s earliest memories are of gathering sage berries under big blue Colorado skies in her childhood home, Steamboat Springs. She has kept that early love of all things outdoors and gets out there as much as she possibly can. You’re more likely to find Ariel crouching on the edge of a pond looking for salamander eggs than attacking a black diamond, but that doesn’t mean Ariel doesn’t like hard things. She runs marathons and loves a good long hike. Ariel is known for getting things done, asking all the questions and getting right down to the essence of things. So, when Natalie told Ariel she was starting an underwear company and Ariel said "Woah! That sounds like an amazing adventure! I want to help!", Natalie was stoked. More than anything, Ariel was excited to take her experience of bringing multimillion dollar sustainable projects to fruition over to Yonderwear. Over the years she has been part of industries making huge shifts in transparency, resource use, and pollution reduction. World Book Day was yesterday, but we were out adventuring and didn't get a chance to share some favorites! So here is a short list of a few things in print that we're looking at these days; some pictured, some not, all worth a look. What is pictured, in order: ✨Surfer's Journal is always there for us in the dead of winter, giving us some inspiration and some damn good content. ✨Parks by @briankelleyphoto is a really great resource of perfect nerdy documentation of some of our most favorite spots to get outside. ✨Nature Swagger by @ruemapp is a gorgeous book full of Black joy in the outdoors. ✨Sometimes we run in the city and sometimes we hit the trails, but both of these books have led to seeing things in a different light as we get outside. ✨We love to throw down when it comes to campsite cooking and both of these books help us plan out the best menus. ✨Perhaps more specific to our line of work and less about the outdoors, but such a good read by @radhradke! ✨Mountain Gazette, how stoked we are for your return and pursuit of printing high altitude, high quality content. It's that time where there is still snow (especially this year!) but the trails are starting to thaw and you want to put those trail runners on or get the cobwebs off that mountain bike. We see you. But! Before you do, make sure you pack up your ski gear for the year so that next season you can hit the slopes without wondering where your mittens are. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🧤For the soft gear: I like to put everything through the wash with some gear wash to get the waterproof finish a fresh start. Then, I lay out all the layers, checking for anything that needs repairs or that I didn't actually wear very much. Either fix those holes with some @nosopatches or make a donation bag of what you don't need anymore. After I sort it all then I fold it all into my giant open tote ski bag. (The one from @topodesigns is super great for this!) This then gets the goggles (in their sleeves!) tucked into the helmets to protect them and I pop those on top. It all sits in my laundry room, patiently awaiting next year. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🎿For the hard gear: I like to wipe down the skis, poles and boots with a wet cloth and a little dish soap. Tossing some silica packets down in your ski boots will keep them moisture free all summer long.
