Half marathon PR!!! 🎉🎉🎉 So happy, I felt strong and held on the best I could. I went out faster than I intended but I felt good and kept going. The last mile I had to stop and take my last gel, I was definitely feeling it at that point. I mustered my energy to get to the finish line and got it done. Windy, sunny, and then snow pellets 😂 my track workout was definitely interesting. I was nervous and excited to do this workout I missed earlier in the week. . Goal was to run 1600 meters faster than lactate threshold and go faster each reduced distance with rest between intervals. 1600: 6:55 (faster than I was suppose to go but I did what I could) 1200: 6:55 800: 6:45 400: 6:25 4x200 m: 5:58, 6:19, 6:08, 6:13 . I used to get upset when I couldn’t follow my training plan as expected, but I’ve let go so much over the last several years. Life happens. I’ve learned to accept that some weeks the training may look a little different. . This week between fatigue (thanks hormones), and the weather affecting my brain causing migraines and headaches, I resigned to resting more than I normally do. Today I didn’t get up as early as I planned, and wasn’t able to get the 5 easy miles in I was supposed to do. I reminded myself some miles are better than no miles. Got 4 in with some strides in, a win in my book this week. . Got to “sleep in” a little today before heading out for my AM miles. Today’s workout was another tough one: 2 x 2 miles at lactate threshold. Goal was to stay between 7:25-7:10 min/mile. Didn’t help that I had a rude encounter with someone on the loop. Her dog lunged/jumped at me as I ran past them, inches away. Scared the shit out of me. No apology. Saw her again and she repeated what I said in a snarky tone. I told her yeah, control her dog, as I ran past. Her dog didn’t look like it would hurt me but how would I know? It wasn’t easy getting up when that alarm went off at 3:45 am 😴 And like clockwork, it’s the first day of spring and it feels like winter 🥶 While I don’t mind running in the cold, my hands had a different story to tell despite wearing gloves. . 2.5 miles to help warm up, followed by drills and strides Today’s “sandwich” lactate threshold run was definitely a fun workout, good challenge. Goal was to mix up my paces over 1200 and 200 meters (2 x 1200 m, 6 x 200 m, 2 x 1200 m). I often wonder if people on the road are judging me for being weird, running in the early hours of the morning. Then I remember I do this for me, and this is the best time to get my run in. Maybe I’ll inspire them to go workout and/or run later 😉 Another 4 am start to my day to get my workout in. Hit my targets, felt great. . 2 mile warm up with drills, strides . 3 mile tempo run, goal was to stay between 8:05-7:45, was able to stay on track and even go faster towards the end, followed by 4 minutes of recovery running . Took to the local track for my 4 x 200 m, oh boy my legs felt it 😂 Goal was to be sub 7 min/mile for each interval, conquered those, but definitely had to walk my 60 second recoveries 🤷🏻♀️ . Today is the first day of the March Disneybound challenge. Today’s theme is Disney Dragons and the one I have chosen for tonight is Maleficent’s Dragon. A force to be reckoned with. Maleficent holds a significant place in popular culture as she is often portrayed as a complex and compelling character in various adaptations of the Sleeping Beauty story. She represents themes of darkness, power, redemption, and female empowerment. Maleficent challenges traditional fairy tale stereotypes and offers a fresh perspective on villains and heroes. The character has become iconic and has inspired numerous retellings, movies, and merchandise, making her a beloved figure in Disney culture. Another early start to the day, but this time on the local track. Oh boy, that workout did not go how I wanted it to. Hit my target paces for the first half, but the last half 👎 Some runs aren’t how we want them to go, and that’s okay! Life without “failures” and mistakes would be boring otherwise. Did a mini speed session today on my lunch break. Shortened my warm up and cool down to get the workout done. Did a 3,3,2,1 (minute) Fartlek workout session with 90 second recovery between paces. No excuses today! I told myself I will do my long run today instead of waiting. I have the day off, just get it in. I had intentions of going much earlier but realized all my running jackets needed to be washed 🫣 Thankfully that gave me time to load up on carbs beforehand. Today’s run was 3 miles easy, followed by 4 miles moderate running. I misread my plan and thought it was a 4 mile progression run from a moderate intensity to a 7-8/10 intensity (8:49, 8:07, 7:48, 7:33) 🤦🏻♀️ Followed by a 1 mile cool down. Definitely a tough run overall. Tough track workout. I don’t think I’ve done much speed work the last few weeks (not for lack of wanting to, but for logistical issues). . Visited my alma mater to get it done. 1.5 mile warm up, drills, and a Fartlek session (5,4,3,2,1 minutes) aiming for 8-7:45 min/mile start, and decreasing by 10 seconds each interval. 60 second recovery between, which I definitely needed. It felt a little too warm on the track, and I just told myself I’m getting a head start on warm weather training 😂 Followed the workout with a cool-down. . Felt great to get a run in this afternoon! . The sidewalks were 80% clear, but still a lot of patchy ice and uncleared driveways/sidewalks. Lots of puddles from the melting snow too. . I took in the fresh air, and adjusted my pace accordingly to the sidewalk conditions. Some miles are better than no miles, and not every run is going to be the ideal run. I have to remind myself of this every now and then.
