With the Paris Olympics just about pulling into the front drive, many ...many folks have noticed a lot of these markings about the city. Signs of The Illuminati? The Bilderberg? Freemasons? Well, no, these kinda' upbeat colorfully sprayed on sidewalk markings (or 'squiggly doodlings' per my neighbor) aren't proof of any secret society, (nor coded messages to Ye Enjiie in 3 Body Problem). They are simply signify alerts to the urban utility netherworld of pipes, power cables, conduits deep in the Parisian Dante-esque infrastructure realm that oft go 'burst' or leaky or too 'slow-y', in the night and thus need repairs, or upgrades or ...whatever. (Many cities offer numbers, like an 811, etc., for folks to learn about marking locations. Is there a Paris website or 3-digit number with this info and/or that deciphers the symbols? Might make a cool poster!) Booming Noises, Duct-taping Cats & Term Papers..... If you live near one or ….seven of these, expect annoyingly loud and sustained seismic/booming noise for possibly long periods. When Paris changed water-mains in front of our place years back, the vibrations were so severe I had to duct-tape our 14 yr-old cat 'Broadway' to the floor a few hours everyday. I see a Salmon coloured house, ...facade like a face, that could be home to a trapped benevolent ghost, or lost vital force, and I swear tho' I have lived round these parts for 1.5 decades and passed this very street 6.02 X 10/27th times, I have NEVER EVER spied it... tho' its been there the whole time, (or so murmurs the abruptly-there black-clad, bent figure watering plants with spotted gnarled hands ...and misty-glaucous eyes now locked on my very soul). I look again at hue of salmon. “Looks like the house is smiling”I say, turning to the spot where she just was but ..ain't now. Madame Houdini?
