Day Thirty of the #artfulmemorieschallenge for 2024. hosted by @janechipp and @jackravi. ‘Elara was a storm chaser, inexplicably attracted to tempests’. ’Elara’ was sketched one hundred and five years ago. I know, because I own the original. She comes from my Great Aunt Maude’s autograph book, which she kept throughout the First World War, and for some time after. The artist was ‘Pte Wm Brown of Lab Records Office, Nottingham, Nov 18th 1919’. Continuing my homage to Shakespeare, I had to sneak in a small souvenir of my own visit to ‘The Tempest at the RSC in 1998. It’s one of my favourite plays, and contains some wonderful lines, including Prospero’s “our revels now are ended….”. Very appropriate as we reach the final day of this year’s Artful Memories Challenge. Thanks to @janechipp and @jackravi and all the participating artists. I took a more ‘scrapbook’ approach this year, with the date and initial letter in each post. Very different from the previous two years. Next year? In case of transportation shortage, do not hesitate to go down the stairs leading to the banks of the Seine. You may be surprised to discover a cab-fish moored under a bridge. Don’t be afraid of its unattractive look. Even in the darkest corners of the town, the abyssal anglerfish will easily carry you to your safe place. But make sure you have enough change, as like its driver it hates bad payers! This drawing is the third one directly inspired by a picture from the book by Brassaï: “Paris de nuit” (Paris by night) showing the Pont Royal which stands on the way to the Pont de Solferino and the Grand Palais.: " It is captioned as follows: “The shine of a lamppost highlights the stones of the Royal Bridge, bitten and washed out by the rain". Brassaï's pictures are an inexhaustible source of inspiration for me, and I think this is just the beginning of a long series. As for the vehicle overlooking the anglerfish, I took as an example a vehicle created in 1891 by the French car manufacturing company Panhard & Levassor. This design is a bit different from my usual drawings whether in terms of sharper contrasts or perspective effects. Gdy uczyłem się w plastyku w Koszalinie, uczyła malarstwa ale nie mnie. Potem miała przerwę i zaszywała misie w fabryce. Ale wróciła do PLSP i teraz uczy w klasach tkaniny artystycznej. Nie widzieliśmy się chyba ze trzydzieści lat a może dwadzieścia parę? Wpadłem tam z okazji dnia otwartego w plastyku. Rozmawialiśmy, że mają wyciąć piękne drzewa przed szkołą i zbudować tam galerię z hotelem. Serce się kroi, bo to mini park, w którym zawsze stały prace uczniów. A obok szkoły jest pusta duża przestrzeń i tam bez niszczenia małego ptasiego ekosystemu można by było postawić budynek. 19 kwietnia 2024. Koszalin koło Mielna. O czym myślałaś podczas robienia zdjęcia? Maria … O tych drzewach przed szkołą, o których Ci wspomniałam, że… No nie wyobrażam sobie, że wrócę po wakacjach i nie będzie nawet pni, bo to wszystko będzie wyrwane, bo ta budowa będzie. Takie smutne, minorowo. Ogólnie dzisiaj jestem w dobrym nastroju, jest mi wesoło. No jakoś tak to mi się Przypomniało. Minuta z życia człowieka Dla człowieka "w bezruchu" siedzącego przed aparatem, minuta to nie ułamek sekundy, nie mgnienie. To 60 sekund, długie i męczące. Uwaga! Start. O czym myślisz wtedy? Hoje é o Dia Internacional do Jazz, uma comemoração criada pela ONU em 2011. Esta festividade está a ser organizada pela primeira vez no continente africano, na cidade de Tânger, em Marrocos. A celebração teve início no dia 27 do presente mês e culminará hoje, com um concerto mundial de estrelas no Palácio das Artes e da Cultura de Tânger. Contará com atuações de uma lista internacional de artistas de todos os cantos do mundo, incluindo Gnawa Abdellah El Gourd de Marrocos, e Herbie Hancock. Ilustra esta publicação duas imagens da orquestra de Tony Amaral (António Freitas Estevez, n. Funchal 1910, f. Funchal 1975), músico madeirense que compôs temas com influências jazzísticas. O pianista era presença assídua no “Hotel Bellavista” e no “Flamingo”, onde se apresentava com o conjunto “Tony Amaral And His Boys”, cujo vocalista se afirmou como outro grande nome da música portuguesa: Max (Maximiano de Sousa, n. FOCUS OEUVRE - « Les Hydres » - (Série de dessins à la mine de plomb, dimensions variables) - La série « Les Hydres » remet en scène des portraits photographiques de populations amérindiennes : réalisés à partir de 1850, dans le but de produire une archive des peuples autochtones en prévision de leur disparition. Les dix dessins illustrent la façon dont « le portrait officiel glisse […] vers la constitution d’un catalogue typologique (représentativité ethnique). » (1) Ils rendent également manifeste la représentation de la disparition. Par le biais d’un enchevêtrement de passe-partouts, l’image est obstruée ; elle n’apparaît que partiellement et ne laisse plus voir aucun visage. Seules quelques mains, posées lascivement sur des étoffes, vêtements et objets nous parviennent pour deviner la présence et l’identité des individus représentés. La série révèle et rejoue la contradiction de « l’ethnologie du sauvetage » (2), soit l’urgence à sauver les traces des cultures qu’on anéantit en parallèle. Ils s’étendaient jusqu’à la rue du Chemin Vert et l’avenue Parmentier, non loin des prisons de la Grande et Petite Roquette dont nous avons déjà consacré une publication. 🗝️ Voulus par Napoléon Ier pour répondre à des exigences sanitaires, cinq abattoirs sont créés autour du centre de Paris - notamment à Montmartre et Villejuif. Face à l’essor des abattoirs de la Villette, ceux de Ménilmontant sont finalement abandonnés et détruits en 1867. Real photo postcard (RPPC) of a gentleman sitting at his roll top desk surrounded by clipboards, advertisements and a calendar. It's hard to read a lot of the text, but the calendar is dated May 1918 (all you can read is the "Y" for the month, but the dates + days of the week match for May of that year). On the folded piece of paper on his desk you can read the words "Corduroy and Moleskin" which seems to refer to clothing (trousers or jackets). I'm not sure what the large lettering behind him says. All I can read is "ERYBOD" and "CVE" and "THWORT". The calendar behind his head has the letters "____OD __RANCE". Maybe France? If anyone has any ideas please let me know! No other information is known about this postcard. Postcard measures approx. 3 1/2" x 5 3/8".
