_durchgerockt No. 132: Das letzte Mal sah ich die Briten Countless Skies im Rahmen eines “Pestbaracke” Konzerts in Eisenhüttenstadt im Oktober 2022. Schon damals war ich von den Qualitäten der Progressive Metal Band sehr angetan. Die Musik des Quartetts lebt vor allem von den gegensätzlichen, sich aber trefflich ergänzenden Gesangsparts von Bassist Phil Romeo und Gitarrist Ross King – die einerseits hoch stimmige Klarheit, andererseits tiefe Grows hervorbringen. Der Soundmix, den die Band dabei zutage fördert, ist fürderhin sicher nicht extravagant oder neu, aber in sich stimmig und gibt dem Zuhörer gerade live das Gefühl sich der stilsicher vorgetragenen Musik hingeben zu können. Bravo! _throughrocked Issue No. 132: The last time I saw the Britons Countless Skies was during a "Pestbaracke” concert in Eisenhüttenstadt in October 2022. Even then, I was very impressed by the qualities of the progressive metal band. The music of the quartet is primarily driven by the contrasting but excellently complementing vocal parts of bassist Phil Romeo and guitarist Ross King - producing both highly melodic clarity and deep growls. The sound mix that the band produces is certainly not extravagant or new, but it is coherent and gives the listener the feeling of being able to immerse themselves in the stylistically well-presented music, especially live. Melodic Death Metal mit wunderbaren Melodien und harten Riffs made in UK? Herzlich willkommen auf dem MOA @countless.skies Wer auf Melodic Death Metal steht und Countless Skies (benannt nach dem gleichnamigen Song von Be´Lakor) nicht kennt, hat was verpasst. Ihre Melodien laden direkt zum Headbangen, aber auch zum Träumen ein. Aber man sollte sich darauf einlassen können, denn ihr Werke kommen teilweise sehr imposant und ungewöhnlich daher. Fünfertakt, wechselnde Rhythmen, dafür aber auch großartige Melodien und ein epischer Chor- alles ist vertreten. Gepaart mit dem Cleangesang von Bassisten Phil und der wunderbaren tiefen Growl Parts von Gitarristen Ross drücken sie jedem Song ihren ganz eigenen unverkennbaren Stempel auf und machen ihn zu etwas Besonderem. Nach ihrem ersten Album “New Dawn”, haben sie 2020 ihr zweites Werk “Glow” auf den Markt gebracht und konnten sowohl die Zuschauer live, als auch die Presse absolut überzeugen. Dieses Jahr veröffentlichten sie zudem das Live-Album “Resonance”, bei dem Cellistin Arianna Mahsayeh mitwirken konnte. Sie war bereits auf dem Album "Glow" zu hören und begleitete die Jungs auf ihrer Tour. The last album by Countless Skies was solid and enjoyable melodic death metal. Nothing groundbreaking but it got a bit of play until whatever arrived next took over, you know how it goes. But this year’s release has blown me away with its addition of cello and a greater focus on (quality) clean vocals and longer songwriting. Not Prog but definitely inhabiting adjacent spaces. Quite a surprise from the usual Willowtip release with their usual dedication to all things brutal and technical.
